Scientists go to jail for failing to predict earthquake

    Wha?

A verdict has been reached in the "medieval" trial of six Italian scientists and a former government official: all 7 are convicted of manslaughter for providing "inexact, incomplete and contradictory" information about the dangers signaled by pre-shocks preceding a devastating 2009 earthquake in L'Aquila, Italy. The 6.3 quake killed 309 people. Effectively, the defendants are being punished for having failed to predict the earthquake, which scientists argue is impossible to do.

I got pics and video. But I will upload them in the morning. I need to smoke this nice phat joint and just close my eyes and replay the amazingness in my head.

They aren't going to Jail. Italy's judicial system is super slow and there needs to be further indictments in order for them to be prosecuted.

          ^Exactly.

It's not like the article says ("Effectively, the defendants are being punished for having failed to predict the earthquake, which scientists argue is impossible to do."), they hid information, there's an explicit phone recording too. "Manslaughter" is still absurd.

At least he's not running for re-election again (maybe parliament). Berlusconi has an 11% approval rating, doesn't get much lower than that.

Banana Republic. A Marx Brothers country.

On a side-note: Silvio is truly scary-looking now, it's morphing into a horror film villain!!

Is he still involved with AC Milan?

Read the article on BBC about Silvio and the geo-scientists.

As somone pointed out they aren;t going to jail...court will take ages...and surely appealed in a higher court in a bigger city without the "medieval" local judges and prosecutors...

Berlusconi got 4 years they put in a headline somewhere...realistically...ex head of state in a Eurozone country will walk free no?

                      end of ramble.

Re: Scientists go to jail for failing to predict earthquake

He WILL walk free, four years for money laundering and such mean no one will ever go to prison, here, not just him. He actually got seven years. But because of a series of rules and laws (most of which were Berlusconi's doing), it's now four and that means that the trial will be cancelled soon. But he got mad because he and his lot are pretending he's 100% clean and victim of a plot.

Of course he's still the owner of AC Milan, and now president again. But strangely, while he keeps saying that there's no crisis at all in Europe, his business is his worst ever now, so AC Milan is no longer the legendary team of yore, Baresi, Maldini, Van Basten, Sacchi, Capello, etc. He let Pirlo go for free, sold his best players -but kept Pato because Pato is doing Berlusconi's daughter .

What about Valerio Fiori? He was there for years as 3rd keeper...barely played a game and didn't go out on loan..who's daughter did he marry?
