01. Jozif - 508 [Crosstown Rebels | CRM104]
Amidst an insane touring schedule jozif contributes the next installment in the Crosstown Rebels unstoppable release schedule with 'The 508'; a killer EP featuring the sublime vocal work of Little Bear and rising star Uffe on remix duties.
Unorthodox percussive elements lead the way on the original version of 'The 508', rattling away in an almost marching band fashion until we are swept into the ethereal vocals of Little Bear. Deeply emotive grand piano chords combined with the inclusion of additional hats and shakers pave the way for a kick and a subby baseline to give the track real purpose and drive. An electric piano melody during the breakdown builds tension to a climax, which cascades down upon the return of the vocal.
On the remix the Rebels astute A&R team welcome young Dane Uffe to the label after his exceptional recent outing on Pets Recordings. This one starts gritty and raw with tribal percussion setting a loose off kilter groove. The piano chords from the original are retained and are even developed further with a few extra chords added. This time its epic string pads that build the climax and a glockenspiel melody that completes this beautiful journey. Closing the single is the instrumental version of the title track. A great release for jozif to kick off his Crosstown account!

02. Sonodab - Bon Voyage (Nowhere EP) [Supplement Facts Records | SFR034]
Guy Gerber welcomes the wonderfully talented Sonodab to his Supplement Facts imprint with his 'Nowhere EP' - four original tracks, taking you on a journey through deep, dubby house and techno.
First up 'Acid Rhythm' is carried by a strong groove, flowing along on a deep hypnotic wave with warbling synths subtly rising and falling back into the deep dubby atmosphere. Holding onto the fluid movement and fuzzy warmth, 'Ars Geotia' takes a techno turn with warm stabbing keys and prominent hi hats that carry the track through a solid, groovy pace until the end.
Next up 'Freak' is tighter, driving and techy with an array of intricate percussions and a precisely formulated loop, boasting plenty of swing and groove while later, warm pads envelop the rippling synth structures. Rounding off the EP and creating a cohesive whole, 'Bon Voyage' delivers a smooth dose of techno, beautifully textured with eerie haunts followed by dark waves and minimal clicks and bleeps.
Originally born in Barcelona, Chus Duran aka Sonodab fell in love with the old vinyl surrounding him in childhood and founding an eclectic taste. Starting out around 1994 as a resident DJ in his hometow, by 2004 after honing skills in production Chus signed with Funkdango Music to release his first record and later joined Decoder Muzique. A highly talented producer to emerge on the electronic scene, Sonodab has already edited and remixed for some of the biggest names in the business. It's certain we will be hearing more of his name after this stellar EP on Supplement Facts.

04. Terence :Terry & Hanfry Martinez - Sunday Gathering (Dyed Soundorom Remix) (Distraction Way EP) [La Vie En Rose | LVR06]
The La Vie En Rose imprint continues to mark itself out as a label to watch, this time with rising star Hanfry Martinez and the 'Distraction Way EP' featuring a collaboration with head honcho Terence :Terry and a huge remix from the irrepressible Dyed Soundorom.
Hailing from the Canary Islands, Hanfry Martinez has been setting the European underground scene alight with a string of excellent productions paving the way for him to play in some of the worlds finest clubs. His label Overall Music, which he runs with partner in - crime Javier Carballo has also been going from strength to strength with releases from Maya Jane Coles and Subb-Ann to name a few.
Martinez' 'Disco 90' squelches into the atmosphere with an acid synth line evolving around a shuffling percussive groove. Various musical elements and extra-terrestrial sounds are layered expertly as the track builds to a hypnotic climax. This one is guaranteed to be in the bag of many a tastemaker in the coming months and will certainly be causing a stir on the dance-floor.
Up next Martinez is joined by Terence :Terry for 'Sunday Gathering' which rattles in with echoed rims and claves providing the initial groove before a slick bass-line takes centre stage. Bubbling percussive elements continue to grow in and around the mix acting in a call and response fashion with the hypnotic spoken vocal.
Dyed Soundorom then steps up to give his interpretation of 'Sunday Gathering' and brings his usual blend of sexiness to the party. Detuned chops of the original vocal lead the way with sultry melodies riding above an irresistible bass-line.
To sweeten the digital deal Martinez contributes a second offering entitled 'Hanfry Scan' - a bumpin' Chicago house track propelled into the future with eerily arpeggiated synths displaying once again the producers innate ability to construct intricate layers of melody with dramatic effect.
05. Art Department, Blud, Shaun Reeves feat Damian Lazarus - Robot Heart [No. 19 Music | No19029]
The next musical offering from No.19 comes in the form of the single ‘Robot Heart’, a record almost destined to be a classic before its creation. The title comes from the infamous desert parties of the same name, that Robot Heart that burners chase through the desert on bikes deep into the Playa to partake in one of the world’s most enigmatic events. It ́s been praised by the likes of Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the best parties on earth and continues to top the list for djs lucky enough to play atop the legendary mobile soundsystem.
When Art Department ́s Jonny White received the call from Gio (George G Mueller) and Jason Swamy to write the first ever song for Robot Heart, it was not something he took lightly. In Jonny ̈s own words, "Robot Heart events at Burning Man are quite simply put, the best parties on the planet". Jonny enlisted his band partner Kenny Glasgow and sometimes DJ partner Shaun Reeves who were with him last year at Burning Man and who all experienced the Playa and Robot Heart for the very first time together to collaborate on the record. This was no small task, writing a record that would somehow have to translate the uncontainable energy that Robot Heart brings to the Playa each night and into the following afternoon at Burning Man.
"This truly is the stuff legends are made of. The guys have come up with something so amazing and powerful and I was honoured to be asked to write the theme to such a beautiful concept that has touched so many including all of us. Having experienced playing on the bus 3 times now I had a good idea of what the song needed to sound like, although bringing that unbelievable atmosphere to a record seemed it might be impossible. Fortunately, having been touched so deeply by our experience there we didn ́t have much trouble putting ourselves in the right place to bring that vibe to the record. I think it really captures the essence of the party, the playa and the people that make it what it is ̈ (Jonny White).
When the record was finished Jonny immediately turned to Damian Lazarus who first asked Art Department to play with him on the bus 2 years ago to write the vocal. "The record needed a vocal... it was something that only someone who had been there and shared the same experience at Robot Heart would be capable of writing. While finishing the mix in LA I approached Damian to write and record the vocals for the song. He had a similar reaction to when we were asked to produce the song... honoured and aware of the daunting task: that it would be a meaningful song for so many and had to live up to the actual party. He asked for a moment alone with a pen and some paper and came up with something absolutely perfect, without even hearing the record! I was shocked. We recorded one take and that was it". (Jonny White)
Musically ‘Robot Heart’ is an instant underground anthem, deep, pulsing electronic music that defies tags such as ‘house’ or ‘techno’. Lazarus’ intense and poignant vocals cut a channel through the rich and haunting production and the sound transports the listener straight to the heart of the flame lit desert floor. The original version is accompanied by an outstanding remix from BLUD who delivers a stripped back, dub mix that is perfectly balanced and deeply hypnotic.

[ReadListenDance Review]
Probably the most powerful aspect of electronic music is making you feel something while the beat and rhythm blend in with you dancing, with life itself even, making you relate your experiences with what you hear, creating that magical feeling while you stand there dancing in a group of people, all of a sudden all by yourself until you pop back into existence. I write this while listening to Matthew Dekay and Lee Burridge’s “Holding On”, a song that holds the maturity, none of the gimmicks and all of the emotional power that electronic music can contain if done correctly.
The label “All Day I Dream” makes for a perfect bed for this beauty and I can see myself enjoying it for quite a while. On the flip side we find a track by Faut Pas Deconner called “Afterhour Olympics”, aptly named for the times this track will come in handy, recalling at times the minimal beauty of “Beau Mot Plage” by Isolée mixed with some early Trentemoller feelings. I think that says it all.
[Beats and Beyond Review]
The third release on Dekay & Burridge’s excellent All Day I Dream label is a split EP featuring D & L as well as Faut Pas Deconner, the production trio of Valentino Kanzyani, Marko Nastic and Tomy DeClerque. Up first is ‘Holding’ on by Dekay & Burridge: this one’s a deep, midtempo piece of progressive house that starts out quite mellow but eventually evolves into a very emotive deep house tune as soon as the vocals are introduced. Fau Pas Deconner’s ‘After Hours Olympics’ throws in some tech-house beats topped with dreamy, glowing strings. Indeed, perfect stuff for afterhours.
07. Deepchord - Spiril 1 (Tonality Of Night EP) [Soma | SOMA352]
The inspirational Rod Modell aka Deepchord follows up Sommer, his second album on Soma, with two exclusive tracks perfectly laid down in only the way he can, giving us 'Tonality of Night'. Both tracks clock in over the 10 minute mark as Deepchord takes us on yet another journey through the unfathomable depths of his unmistakable production.
Spiral 1 floats in gently as deep subs and kicks punch through the delicate ambiance Deepchord creates. Perfectly laid chords echo atop a gentle plain of dream like synth work, the track constantly punctuated with the lightest on percussion, always enough to keep the track moving in the right direction. Deepchord strives to create an ebb and flow, taking the listener with him on a journey and this opening track does so with total precision.
Spiral 2 opens with much more ethereal tones eventually hitting with a deep kick designed to bring you back to Earth with a bang. High hats flutter, allowing your descent into the track to seem almost like falling into a deep sleep. The track then opens gradually, percussion pulsing at the right moments as the vibe created by his soundscapes washes over you.
Not much out there is made with such soul and passion and with every listen to Deepchords music, you gain a sense of his mood whilst being able to get lost in whatever or wherever you may be.
[Beats and Beyond Review]
Yay! New Deepchord stuff is always worth looking forward to, and man-behind-the-mask Ron Modell certainly doesn’t let down here. It’s two tracks we get to hear here, and they both clock in over the 10-minute mark. Up first is ‘Spiral 1’, an extremely atmospheric dub techno track marked by Deepchord’s inventive sound layering and inventive production touch. ‘Spiral 2’ is a tad bit heavier and has a more sub-aquatic feel attached to it. Both tracks are killer, don’t miss out on them.
