    The X-Files (series)

Started watching Season 1 the other week (now halfway into Season 2).

I remember watching this show back in the 90's and being excited about it showing on Friday nights (I believe they later switched it to Sunday evenings).

Anyways, WOW. Almost 20 years later and this show is still fresh. It's quite an interesting view back into the early to mid 90's, the style, the problems people faced back then (srsly, people constantly using land lines and no access to cell phones!), and other nostalgia from that era as well as the way people looked at the government (ex: since when did skepticism of our government transition into complete and total trust of what it does????)

This show is what I wish Law and Order did: have a storyline that arcs over not just a season but the series itself, as opposed to simply one-and-done episodes that are unrelated to further episodes. I love the horror genre but some of the episodes have been ultra-creepy, and I submit this is largely do to the director's vision on how dark the show is as well as his unique ability to capture tension within an episode and keep pushing the suspense all the way to the end (a bit like a DJ set, no?). I can't remember ever watching a show that did it in such a way.

If you're looking for a break from the norm, I highly recommend watching this show. Particularly when Skinner, Cancer Man, Deep Throat, and Kryzcek start appearing (just after halfway of season one and, iirc, appear throughout all 9 seasons). Very cool to watch how Carter (Director) develops their characters.

it's RA. they'd blow their load all over some stupid 20 minute loop of a snare if it had a quirky flange setting. - Tiddles

    Fringe is the new X-Files.

I got pics and video. But I will upload them in the morning. I need to smoke this nice phat joint and just close my eyes and replay the amazingness in my head.

i'll look into Fringe if only for the fact that The Wire's LT. Daniels is in it!

But I am kinda wondering if I'll like it given that it's Abrams (who, style-wise is excellent, but I feel falls short on the plot and writing, and often . . .)

I watched the x-files here and there back in the 90s. I really have been wanting to rewatch the whole series from the beginning but that is a lot of tv. I need to do it because I know it will be good and some of the episodes do have a great creepy feel to them.

I watched some of Fringe and didn't like it all that much, it wasn't as dark or moody as the x-files was for sure.

              Re: The X-Files (series)

Fringe is certainly not as dark and creepy as X-Files but I find better acting and dynamic. Plot is somewhat tighter than X-Files because there's no government conspiracy that spirals out of control. We have straight up villains in each main arc.
