      Oliver Lieb Bio

Frankfurt based DJ & producer Oliver Lieb is involved in the production of electronic music since 1988. With more than 250 singles and albums including remixes for Faithless, Moby, Snap, Yello, Human League, Mory Kante, Utah Saints to name a few, he made it in the premier leage of international producers and keeps surprising and amazing people with his extraordinary sounds and diversity.

At the age of 14 he started playing bass in several Funk/Soul/Jazz bands. Oliver also got in touch with electronic music (Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk,Yello, Jean-Michel Jarre) and discovered a new and an endless horizon of expressing himself.

In late 1989 Oliver’s first record FORCE LEGATO “System” got released by Dorian Gray resident DJ Torsten Fenslau on his Abfahrt label. The single gained great worldwide reactions and almost hit the official German charts.
In the years to follow Oliver released everything in the electronic genres from downtempo and chill-out to hard experimental techno and trance. His project Spicelab on Sven Väth’s legendary Harthouse label established a platform for his highly appreciated sounds, which developed into one of the most important projects of the label including the release of three full length album releases.

Oliver never wanted to focus on just one specific genre he simply created several pseudonyms for each of his different styles. His LSG and Paragliders releases on Superstition Rec. are still considered as one of the most influencing and timeless trance projects and were developed for more than 10 years and 5 Albums.

His maxis and albums got licensed on Hooj Choons, Yoshitoshi, Platipus, Duty Free, Magic Muzic and many others.

After leaving Superstition in 2004 it was time for doing something new especially since the whole music scene went through big changes and somehow redefined itself. After locking himself into his studio to create new sounds and going into all kind of different directions Oliver announced the start of his own label “Maschine” in summer 2005 which is distributed worldwide by “Neuton” and online exclusively through Beatport and released his first single “Solieb - Circus Maximus” in July. The reactions were great and two more maxis followed until the end of 2005. Maschine is about to turn into a main source for high quality forward electronic music and grabs more and more peoples attention.

In 2007 Oliver started a new company doing mastering and cutting vinyl. After all this was a logic step since he is known for a very high sound standard on his own productions and so he added some high end analog mastering gear to his studio to guarantee sound quality enhancement also for his clients.

After the endless process of planning, constructions and moving in to the new studio and finally focusing on the new company he took a bit of a break from producing and djing - also to focus on a new sound and directions.
In 2010 Oliver started a new label Solieb Digital at Beatport to re-release his old music after re-mastering and polishing the tracks. So far his Recycle or Die release as well as two albums from Spicelab and just now the L.S.G. – The Black Album Remastered Compilation were released.

Since late 2010/early 2011 Oliver has started working again on new productions. The first release Parallax was an exclusive track for John Digweeds Structures two CD followed in July by the Oliver Lieb - Epsilon Eridani EP - both on Bedrock.

After upgrading and changing his studio setup in Summer 2011 he also appeared as a remixer again starting with Ioan Gamboa, Davide Cali and Microtrauma´s "Aktin" on Microtonal.

In February 2012 Oliver Lieb together with Jimmy van M. released a mix CD as „The Audible Suspects" on Bedrock that was highly appreciated both for the outstanding overall sound quality and the track selection.

After a remix contest based around the original track and Oliver´s remix in early July 99percent recordings released Fran Von Vie – „Albatros“.
In August/September there will be some more original productions coming out… Oliver Lieb – Melting on Rezongar Music, Oliver Lieb – IC Future/Reach the sunrise on Apwood Recordings and releases on Diametral and Tulipa Recordings with originals from Oliver plus remixes to be announced very soon.

      02. Dzim - Limits (Rodrigo Mateo Remix) [Dopamine Music]

Coming soon on Nikko. Z's Dopamine Music with a Rodrigo Mateo Emotional Groove Remix!

"Sometimes things turn in a different way as expected, not only when writing music, I mean in life, specially in life. In this track there is a strong parallelism between its construction and what was going on in my life during the creation process.

This track started as a techno work, with not so much melodic arrangement, simple, effective, happy... And now, well... I don't have to explain this.
I conceive music as a vehicle for personal storytelling, and it's the only way of communication I feel comfortable with. If you listen my music, you certainly know more about me than people who doesn't." [Rodrigo Mateo]

Rodrigo Mateo (198 is an Electronic musician from Buenos Aires, with releases on Soulfire Music [Calidore | SFD020] Baires Records [Carbon Monoxide | BAIRES 006] and Stripped Digital [Iridium Flares | 001SDLP] Rodrigo has also featured on Residents 058 with 'Blossom Out Of Nothing' [Baires Records | Promo] and 047 Stereotypes [Baires Records | BAIRES013].

      03. Terje Saether - Last Resort [Sangria | SNG005]

One of the most talented producers out there delivers his first EP on Sangria. Man who recently signed with Nick Warren's Hope imprint will not disappoint you with these 3 very intelligent tracks. Pure art.

Terje is a producer from Oslo, Norway "with polar bears walking in the streets and an eternal temperature of well below freezing, there's nothing else to do than create electronic music." Terje has worked with Lil'Wolf (Of Norway), Preben Olram and Malin Pettersen, and has releases for Night Drive Music, Savoir Records, darkroom dubs, Lucidflow, Frisky Records and Hope Records.

      04. Balcazar - My Fault [unreleased]

Marco Balcazar a.k.a. Balcazar Born in Guadalajara Mexico, Balcazar grew up listening to groups such as The Cure and The Smiths. Thanks to frequent trips to San Francisco and New York, he had an early introduction to the house and progressive house scenes. And now his co-production with Logiztik Sounds is included on the album mixed and compiled by Ricky Ryan; Feedback 01 on Proton Music. (Logiztik Sounds & Balcazar - Ducks).

      05. Taragana Pyjarama - Ballibat (Lauer Mix) [Kompak | KOM DIGITAL 27]

Undoubtably a sublime highlight on Taragana Pyjarama’s album debut “Tipped Bowls”, Ballibat was a sweet, atmospheric wobbler exploring unusual beat structures and featuring a goosebumps-worthy melody. It may not have been an obvious choice for most prime times, but nonetheless made its mark in the more adventurous playlists.

Please enjoy this stream of the original version of Ballibat as we are proud to present Ballibat Remixe featuring premium reworks from Lauer and Wesley Matsell sure to spellbind all kinds of floors.

A truly uplifting workout, the "Lauer Mix" doesn't stop short of anthemic moments, but knows how to carefully translate a rather intimate mood to a floor full of eager dancers.

Installing himself as a whizkid on both Surfer House and Future Bass fronts, upcoming Wesley Matsell continues the jacking path already pursued on his Studio Barnhus-backed release "Zones Within Zones" and presents two distinct versions working the crowd from all angles.

      06. Mauro Norti - You and Me (Max Cooper Remix) [Wide Angle Recordings | WA039]

"This original track had a really nice piano riff along with an interesting groove and some weird noises, perfect remix material! Also I love what Mauro Norti has been doing, and Wide Angle, so I got involved.

I think I did a lot of the ideas for this one during a wait for a delayed flight in an airport, and I was feeling pretty tired at the time, and a bit paranoid because some weird guy sitting opposite seemed to be staring at me. Then some other guy came up to me with a mobile phone in two pieces, slightly freakily shouting words of English that made no sense and trying to give me this phone, I never managed to figure out what he was on about. Anyway, this track was my escapism from all that crap, I tried to make something nice and relaxing and enveloping to remove me from reality a little, hope you like it.' [Max Cooper]

Following his stunning debut album Last Day, Mauro Norti returns to Wide Angle Recordings in exceptional company. Veteran producer Oliver Lieb alongside label familiars Max Cooper and Travis MacDonald deliver what is arguably the most versatile and dynamic release of the year. 07. James Zabiela - Healing (Midland Remix) [Born Electric | Promo]

"My remix of James Zabielas "The Healing" which is going to help launch his new label "Born Electric" alongside a Hot Chip remix of the same tune." [Midland]

Healing first came to our attention on James Zabiela's 'Paradigm Shift' mix. This was followed by Sasha's Involver3 Remix which is still waiting to see the light of day. The sublime original later featured on James Zabiela's Resident Adviser RA.319 Podcast. This is forthcoming on Born Electric.

      Midland Bio

Midland made his 2010 debut alongside longtime friend Pearson Sound with their anthemic "Your Words Matter", a track that would go on to be placed in DJ Mag's "100 most important house records" feature. Within the track, the pair wove, defied and played with a number of genres and, in doing so, Midland laid a clear foundation stone for his vision of how electronic music could be. It is a sound that is rooted in House and Techno but with the rumbling low end of Dubstep and wide screen experimentation of classic Electronica.

Since then, subsequent releases on Phonica, More Music and Aus, plus remixes for Turbo, Werk and artists like the 2 Bears and Julio Bashmore have all cemented his reputation as a producer whose tastes reach beyond the dancefloor. The now London based producer's deft edits of Washed out, Boards of Canada and

Caribou have also become firm favourites with many, winning over some diehard fans along the way.

As a DJ, Midland's sets are unsurprisingly diverse, something witnessed at clubs from Fabric to Plastic People to Space in Ibiza, Horst in Berlin and Chinese Laundry in Sydney. As a result, he is just as likely to be seen playing alongside artists like Joy Orbison or Ben Ufo as he is James Zabiela, Steffi or Will Saul. With collaborations due to emerge with Breach and Pariah as well as a number of projects aimed at pushing his sound into uncharted areas, it's a good bet you will find yourself dancing to something he's had a hand in sooner rather than later.

      08. Hernán Cattáneo & John Tonks - Warsaw (Marcelo Vasami Remix) [Bedrock Breaks | unreleased]

Warsaw was released on the short-lived Bedrock Breaks sub-imprint [BB09] which put out a host of great tracks between 2002 and 2005 from the likes of Luke Chable, Wierd Continental Types aka Barry Jamieson & Gaëtan Schurrer (the engineer responsible for some of the sounds on Northern Exposure as well as Sasha's early productions), and Meat Katie.

The music is enjoying something of a renaissance with the emerging South American talent, Hernán featured the Lautaro Varela Rework of Luke Chable's 'Into The Storm' on Resident 064.

Warsaw was one of the many highlights on 2005s The Masters Series 2. Here the talented Marcelo Vasami, a Resident regular, provides his deep-tech take on this iconic track.

      [Original release notes]

Superstar DJ Hernan Cattaneo follows on from a string of excellent remixes with production partner John Tonks to belt out a gem called ´Warsaw´ on the Bedrock 'Breaks' sub-imprint. Two fantastic mixes are provided, the original on a more sweeping progressive breaks tip, while the flip is an onslaught of scratchy beats and gnarly guitar driven breaks.

Smooth but crunchy breakbeats start the ´Original Mix´ of Warsaw. A complex and intricate percussive bouncing arpeggiator fills in the gaps while the beats shift and move with lots of drum edits and fills. A delayed melody steps in and takes the lead into a soft break where it slows down and bobs making room for some gorgeous sliding pads. The pads are warm but moody and loom in building slowly behind the the other melody. As the breaks pounce back in, everything builds until a bass-line appears and takes the tune on its ride. The bass is thick and moves cleverly up and down moving at a rapid pace until it stops up and halts in silence. The bobbing synth reappears this time with a saucy punchiness to it. The layers of pads slowly creep in again, building up until the song punches back in and explodes into a peak time progressive break.

The ´Big Bass Mix´ is a dirtier, filthier version with grinding sounds and a blast of a guitar riff. Funkier distorted drums build while a beeping high falls on top introducing a snarling tone hidden in the background. The tone starts to waver and build into a mid section of pulling intensity. Analog squishy bits fill in the rare gaps, while an acid sound wiggles with complexity inside the insanely huge bass. The drop opens into a funky ass guitar riff that easily rivals the Chemical Brothers sound. The guitar fits perfectly underneath summery toms and big bass booms, and the bass-line finds its way back in taking charge of everything and engulfing the tune into a massive peak of distortion and funk.

Hernan and John come out on top with this release on Bedrock Breaks. ´Warsaw´ is a beast of a tune and with two very different mixes, you´ll be able to find your own niche, whether its hard and grindy or lush and progressive.

      [RA Review Sept 2005]

Bedrock breaks sees the mighty teaming of Hernan Cattaneo and John Tonks put out two block stomping mixes of Warsaw .

The original mix is a powerful combination of neat and tight percussion that carves out a rhythm at the beginning while subtle stabby synths act as a precursor to what's to come next.Briefly the beat drops out and is replaced by emotive, atmospheric pads that together with the hypnotic synths start to lift the track further as the bassline pitches slightly before gradually rez-ing up to the break and blossoming into something sublime . Pure peaktime breaks.

Next up is the Big bass mix which is a more grinding affair as seriously tweaked synthlines crank up the pressure in contrast to the originals dreamy vibe, breaking with an awesome guitar riff to make any dancefloor shake. Throughout there's a constant underlying soundscape of angry cuts that only inject even more into the already funked-up attitude. This is massive!
