It seems like everything Peter Van Hoesen does is the distillation of something much bigger. Take his latest album, Perceiver, which was whittled down from a body of work more than twice its length (leaving a wealth of unheard material to fuel his live sets). Then there's his own musical style, which, as well-honed as it is today, comes from a vast and eclectic set of influences: Belgian new wave, '80s post-punk, industrial, and avant-garde all play at least as big a role as techno in Van Hoesen's musical history.
