02. Maxxi Soundsystem - Stella's Way [Ellum Audio | ELL008]
Scoring big hits across the modern house underground, Maxxi Soundsystem makes his way to Maceo Plex's Ellum Audio imprint for the warm and soothing tones of "Stella's Way", which centres around a looping synth riff that sounds as though it was lifted straight out of 80s radio. Huxley's remix pares down any such frivolities, homing in on the scattered vocal flourishes and dropping a mean shuffle and off-key chords for some ultimately funky functionality. Shall Ocin rounds things off with a version that capitalises on the lush melodies of the original and bolsters them with additional synths for an equally fuzzy jaunt.
New single out on Maceo Plex's Ellum Audio. Vinyl out 22nd October and digital on 5th November. Also features remixes by Huxley and Shall Ocin.
Fat and filthy bass-lines and a nod to old school UK garage is the order of the day at Ellum Audio for debut single on the label from Brighton wonder boy Sam Watts aka Maxxi Soundsystem. 'Stella's Way' is a glorious slice of big room fun and it comes equipped with a pair of tasty remixes from he-can-do-no-wrong-Huxley and the rising Shall Ocin.
The original mix of 'Stella's Way' is destined to be a club monster much like any given Maxxi Soundsystem track due to the producer's innate ability to make propulsive music with giant hooks, where lively percussion is injected with heavy dose of low end. Sampling an old UK garage classic, a vocal that feeds in and out of the rolling pumpy groove, the track builds with a bubbling barrage of synths and a twisting acid bass-line.
Self-confessed garage head and contender for artist of the year Michael Dodman aka Huxley steps up for the first remix delivering a choppier affair with a down and dirty rattling groove and garage bass stabs. Huxley has spent the past year becoming a household name with massive releases on Leftroom, Hypercolour, Tsuba and 2020 Vision as well as co-running the label Saints and Sonnets. Argentinian born Nicolas Abalos aka Shall Ocin lends a different spin to 'Stella's Way', working into the mix, some euphoric synths, intricate drum beats and melodic and muscular bass-line.
Sam Watts aka Maxxi Soundsystem is another mega talent for UK house and has been reaping more and more fans ever since he first exploded onto the scene with 'Criticize' in 2011 and later with a string of addictive releases on Futureboogie, Needwant and Nurvous. Ellum Audio extends its family a little wider to welcome this kindred musical sprit.

[DMC World Review : 5 out of 5]
Ellum Audio’s excellent follow-up to ‘Love Somebody Else’ doesn’t rely upon past glories to push the envelope forward, as this latest invigorating production from Maxxi Soundsystem certainly testifies. ‘Stella's Way’ sits somewhere in between the innovative sounds emanating from American and European right now combining effortless, funky percussion alongside fuzzy electronic intensity and timely, classic vocals. The more you listen, the more enticing this proves to be. Huxley then goes and remixes with typical flair delivering kick-ass bass and ultra- sharp beats making the choice of best version a difficult one. Shall Ocin, meanwhile develop the funkier aspects with sassy rhythms and a warmer sense of melody to complete another excellent release from the label.
03. PBR Streetgang - N-H-N (Double Boogie EP) [Future Boogie Recordings | FBR011]
Tom Thorpe & Bonar Bradberry aka PBR Streetgang have propelled themselves to the forefront of UK house and disco in recent years while eschewing the parameters of either style, so it’s no surprise they are turning up on Bristol institution Futureboogie Recordings with banging dose of acid house frolics, the ‘Double Boogie EP’. Leeds hero Burnski gives A-side ‘N-H-N’ his special groove over on the flip.
The original ‘N-H-N’ has the power to revive even the most jaded 90s rave child. Inspired by one of PBR’s ultimate house heroes, Maurice Fulton, the release marks another shift for the production duo, exploring a more experimental approach and delivering a classy homage to proper acid house. Without sticking to a formula or following current trends the PBR Streetgang boys have succeeded in creating a killer dancefloor track with an irresistible wiggle and some serious drums.
‘Mutoscope’ is a sly builder kicking off with a bass heavy swing and rolling drums while quirky sounds and choppy samples filter through solid claps until the break fully releases the groove. A skilful fusion of classic influences, PBR again display a fluidity and freshness to their evolving style. On the flip, Burnski turns in an absolute gem of a remix of A-side ‘N-H-N’, blending the acid line with a funking bumping, garagey groove and sexy female sample.

05. Tone Of Arc - I Know Who You Are [Bang The Box | Promo]
Tone Of Arc is Producer/guitarist/bassist/pianist/drummer/Vocalist also known as Dead Seal is Derrick Boyd teaming up with his partner in rhyme, Zoe Presnick. Together they are a perfect performance peace leaving no one on the dance floor short of enthralled.
At the turn of the year San Francisco's Tone Of Arc were tipped by Maceo Plex as one of his 5 to watch in 2012. Ahead of a full artist album come a couple of EPs:
"Well there is another couple ep’s coming out actually before the album. One on my old and dearest friend Lance Desardi aka Land Shark and Brett Johnson’s label Bang the Box call “I know Who You Are” with 2 tracks I did 4 years ago coming out any day now and another dance ep on NO.19 in December I think with 4 more big floor songs I did in the past three years till recent." [Tone Of Arc]
Tone Of Arc has also released music as alter ego Dead Seal:
Producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Dead Seal AKA Derrick Boyd has been on the scene for a number of years, releasing a debut album on maverick West Coast label Auralism and building a reputation for his energetic live performances. But it seems that his time in the international spotlight is about to arrive with some of the coolest labels around flocking to him for remixes and productions: Boyd has recently been drafted in by Damian Lazarus for remix duties on Crosstown Rebels, is set to record a full length album for Jonny ‘Art Department’ White’s No19 Music label.
06. Ray Okpara - Good Times [Mobilee Records | MOBILEE 101]
It’s just a small sample off the groove platter – a little something to whet your appetite, if you will. And who better to get the juices flowing than mobilee’s own versatile house-maven, Ray Okpara.
“Good Times” is the track that sums up the self-titled, album to be released in late October. Ray goes full-scale to produce an accurate 11-piece representation of his philosophy on friendship and a good time. His debut album for mobilee will incorporate vocals as well as production ideas and techniques from friends new and old, as well as girlfriends of friends who’ve all found a place in Ray’s heart and in his spare guest room over the summer.
The album, which is more beat orientated with subtle hints of melody flowing through the groove of the bass and drums, will pose as an audio dance music diary of all the shared memories and good times cooked up during the
production phase.
On the flip side you’ll find one of Ray’s darker and more contradictory tracks from the album: “Chi This Wonder Up”. Despite the smoky intro, there’s nothing bleak about this number as it meshes perfectly with the rest of the album by keeping the deep and hypnotic groove grounded on the dance floor. Rodriguez Jr. fluffs up “Chi This Wonder Up” in his remix with bouncier bass lines, as well as a few other surprises and samples.
The album will be followed by a “’Good Times Album Tour“ through Central and South America, Europe and Asia starting in November. Vinyl lovers can also be part of the good times with a 4-piece front and backside coloured vinyl record plate package featuring 7 tracks from the original LP.

08. Miguel Bastida & Florian Kaltstrom - Glasso Phone (Philipp Straub Remix) [Bedrock Records | Promo]
"Florian Kaltstrom I do briefly know since a long time but just lately we got in touch again due to his upcoming releases. One of the tracks he gave me, Glasso Phone, I played on BalatonSound, Space Ibiza as well as on other gigs and I got great feedback. Generally this was a perfect tune for me and I was proud that it was done by an fellow Austrian, Florian liked my support and asked me to do a remix which I for sure agreed with pleasure! As the original is kind of a bass / percussion tune I tried to change the concept into another direction without losing the original's vibe!" [Philipp Straub]
09. Dibby Dougherty & David Young - Juliet Is Dead (Chromezone Remix) [Manual Music | MAN092]
