                          Release Notes:

                          01. Derek Howell feat. Mz Sunday Luv - Here We Go Again [unsigned]

Another Resident return for Derek 'Happy To Be Sad' Howell, whose Laughing It Up (Proton Music] was remixed by Kassey Voorn on 064 and collaborations with Faskil (Un Poema Cinematográfico) and Joshua Michael (J) featured on 060 and 049.

Here Derek shows some old school house sentiment.

"Will be shopping it to some labels soon.' [Derek Howell]

Houston based Derek Howell (above) grew up surrounded by music. His first encounters with music at close range were personified by the purchase of his first record player before the guitar consumed Derek’s life for the better part of four years as he spent countless hours, day after day, picking away and experimenting with chaining every distortion and effect pedal he had on hand.

When the underground dance bug hit southwestern America Derek quickly dropped his guitar and picked up turntables. After listening, fervently, to the sounds of the time in dance music ( Sasha, John Digweed, Dave Seaman), Derek decided that he wanted to spread the good news. He strove to create something fuelled by his musical roots, but driven by the future. To this day he has sought to invent a place where the products of others? musical heydays and his visions of the future of music can come together and groove.

At the start of his career he released records on such labels as Fade Records, Bedrock Records and 3 Beat Breaks. He has since had releases on Matthew Dekay?s DK Records, Randall Jones's Mynt Music imprint, Proton Music and the ever present Global Underground. In addition, he has been featured on quite a few well known compilations including the infamous Nick Warren's GU 028: Shanghai, Desyn Masiello's Balance 08, GU?s Electric Calm v2 downtempo compilation as well as their Digitized 2 compilation and two of Hernan Cattaneo's Renaissance compilations.

Derek's collaboration work with fellow producers Peter Martin and Joshua Michael has birthed the Pinkbox Special/Alley Qats and Lonestar projects respectively, under which releases on Armada Music, Maris Music, Proton Music and Fade Records have ensued. These things being all in the past but certainly never forgotten, Derek’s goal for tomorrow and the years to come is to create dance and electronic music, not simply dance tracks. He strives to push himself in different directions and to never be content with settling on any one style, genre or sub-genre of the music he chooses to create. Music has always remained a very important part of his life, and that trend shall continue. Hopefully, with a lot of hard work, and a boat load of faith, his music will become an important part of so many others’ lives as well.

                          02. HVOB - Dogs (Oliver Koletzki Remix) [Stil Vor Talent | SVT087]

Their first Soundcloud snippets appeared in April, followed by the signing to Stil vor Talent in late spring and a summer of lauded festival performances, such as at the renowned Berliner Melt! Festival – this autumn HVOB (short for Her Voice Over Boys) now go on to deliver their virgin release: the ‘Dogs’ EP closes the circle of an impressive first year for the young electronica project.

‘Dogs’ combines all of the qualities with which the Vienna-based pair caused a stir across Europe during the past months: intelligent, equally driving and melodic, sophisticated electronic music – with an enchantingly feminine touch due to Anna Müller’s voice. Stil vor Talent mastermind Oliver Koletzki speaks of ‘a eureka moment on first listen, something that only happens once in a blue moon. HVOB are unique and timeless’.

On the A-side of the debut EP, ‘Dogs’ and ‘Let’s Keep this Quiet’ take the listener on a journey through HVOB’s distinctive sonic world of organic sounds, floating pads, propelling beats and Anna Müller’s beautiful voice. Müller is not only responsible for the vocals, but for composition and production, while Paul Wallner is accountable for the finishing touches of the production process.

On the flip side, ‘Dogs’ is then treated by Stil vor Talent heavyweights Oliver Koletzki and Niko Schwind: Koletzki utilises the original’s piano and vocal melodies, beefing them up with a driving bass line and his trademark synths, while Schwind places an emphasis on catchy claps, tambourines and Anna Müller’s voice.

We are eagerly awaiting the release of their first album early next year!

                          03. Magic Panda - Distant Places (Max Cooper Remix) [Tigerbeat6 | 478251]

Magic Panda has been doing some great stuff in recent years, so when he sent me over his album to consider for remixes I immediately found a couple of tracks I had to work with. The problem was I couldn't decide which one to remix, so I decided to remix both tracks into one. This is the result, containing parts from two different tracks, combined into a single remix. Out today on Tigerbeat6! [Max Cooper]

                          04. Auntie Flo - Sun Ritual (Speicher 72) [Kompakt Extra | KOM EX 72]

Starting out in 2001 as a mere compilation series to tie up some loose ends from our regulars, SPEICHER has since become a guarantee for vanguard dance sounds from all over the planet, allowing KOMPAKT to invite and support electronic artists that comfortably inhabit both the delicate and the more deliberate ends of the electronic music spectrum. For Speicher 72, both Berlin stalwart NICK HÖPPNER and polyrhythmic mastermind AUNTIE FLO present essential tracks fitted for maximum floor response.

OSTGUT TON label head and PANORAMA BAR resident DJ, NICK HÖPPNER is a well-known renaissance man, entrancing dance floors worldwide with impeccable taste and narrative verve. As a DJ and producer, he finds great artistic freedom in the classic four-on-the-floor layout while updating the blueprint with a serious longing for sonic adventure. IPSO FACTO – his KOMPAKT debut - perfectly showcases a different side to his standard fare, opting to taking a firm grip on the deeper shades of Techno. He balances industrial styles with more groove-inducing flavours and takes a rather restricted sound palette to impressive heights. It's what the tip of the iceberg might sound like, a not-so-subtle hint at a massive body hiding beneath sea level.

Brian D'Souza aka AUNTIE FLO hails from Glasgow, where he honed his craft as purveyor of rhythmic diversity. Influenced by Chicago House, Kwaito, advanced Pop and various Bass hybrids, he draws from an imposing amount of sound sources, but still manages to keep the flow focused and his message clear. On the heels of his debut full length on Huntley & Palmers which Resident Advisor proclaimed as "dance floor dynamite 4/5", SUN RITUAL is a particularly fine example of Brian's magic, shaking and rattling incessantly while making its way to the centre of attention, an ever-rising hike to the top of the mountain dipped in light.

                          05. J. Khobb - Retrolution [Balkan Connection | Promo]

                          Bio

The music that has aroused much enthusiasm in his young ears at the early age of eight was elaborated by the energy of the guitar sound. That has been the turning point, besides being the polestar of all his interests in life from than on. Writing his very first piece of music one year later, we surely are talking about a phenomenal musician. Soon afterwards he began to study the piano, but being persuaded by hearing his brother playing the drums, he decided to try it and, playing at sight, succeeded again. Having found the treasure trove instrument – the drums – he did not stop there. Founding a band, writing music and lyrics, performing and leading his playfellows was then his joy and passion. As all the dreams are finished one day, this has also… the band had split.

But, having his head and ears, besides his golden hands, loaded with ideas, there had to be a solution. Stubborn as ever, J. Khobb had to compensate the black musical hole.Through some acquaintance, electronic music in general, the clubbing scene with all its attributes was introduced to him. Soon he realised that was all he ever wanted to do…to compose and produce with all his might… The main reason: independence in the process of creating jewels – musical masterpieces you really should discover!
