Re: Google boosts free e-mail storage to 2GB

I don't know what to do with the 900MB and 45 invites that I have left. This is absolutely unnecessary, nobody in their right mind will be storing their MP3's or any applications on google. So what other use does it have other than receiving video email from family and storing school files to be printed? Suggestions...

I think the whole point is to give users a ridiculous amount of storage space. It's like, why would you pay for a "premium" webmail with 1GB when you can have an "infinity + 1" GB inbox, POP, 10mb attachments, robust spam filters... for free.

They're laughing at MS and the rest. Pretty stupid move by MS too... charging for a premium hotmail account, why? can't MS afford to give them for free like Google? don't they have enough money already?

I haven't received any spam since i don't give out my email. I think they are doing a very good job controlling spam compaired to the competition.

^^good insight beto. I hope MS and SBC Yahoo are shitting their droors after they see the 2GB boost!

You are currently using 8 MB (0%) of your 2054 MB.

I use the beaucoup space to transfer sets to my bro in the Air Force since he gets on a wi-fi connection certain hours of the day. I just use my trusty hjsplit to split sets into 10 mb files and let 'em rip.

"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl."

yea, the point isnt that theres some large set number that you can get to...

the point is that you dont have to worry about it. you can save what you want to save and it wont ever matter..... just as if you used a software email client.

Well, I don't think it's people not pleased with the offerings; I think it's just people seeing how silly this continuous one-upmanship between these .coms is. I don't see the added space so much as a benefit to users (maybe a few) as much as simply a way for Google to differentiate themselves yet again from the competition. Of course, I could be wrong. Could be that there are some geeks out there that need as much email space as can be thrown at them. Anyway, it doesn't matter- it's free, so no one is complaining.

...and did see someone mention that attachments can only be 10MB with Gmail? How about increasing that instead of more total space?

I guess it's easier to buy more hard drives than it is to increase the bandwidth...
