Release Notes
01. King Roc - The Beginning [Process Recordings | PRCS113]
It's almost here... King Roc's debut album Chapters is out 23 March, and this is the first single. Edits of beautiful piano-and-aaaah number The Beginning and the rockier Lunar People - one of the album's two pop songs, vocal and all.
How are reactions to the album so far?
Three of the four 12"s were IDJ "top tunes" and "wonderful ... the best thing King Roc has ever done". Meanwhile, DJ mag tipped the success of Chapters as early as the beginning of last year, saying "[This] will be the year King Roc claims his crown ... [the 12"s are] dreamy ... elegant ... gorgeous ... bittersweet ... melancholy". Or there's the German press, giving the last track a "Super! 6/6" in Raveline, or saying "quality stuff as usual" (Lodown).
And then there's the DJs:
"Brilliant" - Solomun.
"Lovely" - Agoria.
"Brilliant" - Style of Eye.
"Really nice" - Fabrice Lig.
"Beautiful, emotional, groovy: right up my alley!" - Darko Esser.
"I love everything [King Roc] does these days" - Tim Sheridan.
So keep an eye out for features in Raveline, DJ, IDJ, Clash, Lodown, radio play from German public radio to Turkey to Austria to Greece to London ... And that's alongside King Roc's continued work as half of Two Armadillos with Giles Smith, described by Agoria as "perfect for summer days" and "Perfectly conjures up vivid memories of heady days and nights, pre minimal garbage, oozing the kind of bassy groove that locks smiling bug eyed dancers on the spot for hours" - IDJ. Keep an eye out for new material and remixes from them, as well as King Roc and Tim Sheridan's killer The Ghosts That Live In Her, on Veryverywrongindeed.
02. Panama - It`s Not Over (Dave DK Vocal Remix) [Future Classic | Promo]
A classically trained pianist from the age of six, Jarrah McCleary grew up in the sticky heat of the Northern Territory. His previous project, The Dirty Secrets saw the band working between Australia and London with iconic producer and engineer, Nick Terry (Klaxons, Libertines). After working on ideas for a new record for over two years, in early 2011, McCleary declared a new album and boarded the airplane, bound for Los Angeles. Between splashes of yacht rock, trop-pop and nods to Peter Gabriel (thanks to the iconic 80s Yamaha DX7 synth), a short summer experience in the city where dreams are made lead to tracks tinged with hints of hopeful house music strewn with the sleaziness of Venice beach and too much free poured tequila. And so, Panama was born.
From Future Classic, the iconic Australian indie dance label and home to recent ascending talents Flume and Flight Facilities, comes their newest signing – Sydney quintet Panama.
Panama first made themselves known with acclaimed debut single ‘Magic’, which was accompanied by remixes from disco deviants Midnight Magic and Gavin Russom. Their debut ‘It’s Not Over’ EP picks up on that bright promise while expanding it’s palette with six tracks that are equally awash with intoxicating rhythm as they are detailed with personal, reflective hues. The EP will also be accompanied by a special ‘It’s Not Over’ 12″ release featuring a stellar cast of remixes of the track from .

His previous project, The Dirty Secrets saw the band work between London and Australia with producer and engineer, Nick Terry (Klaxons, Libertines).
The EP was recorded in Los Angeles with super producer Eric Broucek, of DFA Records fame (Holy Ghost, LCD Soundsystem) and assisted on the rhythm section by Jim Orso (Holy Ghost, Hot Chip) on drums.
03. Layo & Bushwacka! Feat. Kim Ann Foxman - Can`t Hurt You (Just Be Deep Dub Remix) [Olmeto | OLM036]
Layo & Bushwacka! release the remix package of ‘Can’t Hurt You’ – the fourth single from their latest long-player ‘Rising and Falling’.
Following the release of their latest album ‘Rising and Falling’, the duo return with a brilliant remix package centred around one of the standout tracks from the album. Titled ‘Can’t Hurt You’ the track features the sublime vocal talents of Kim Ann Foxman.
Fans of the album will be well versed with the delicate floating synths and memorable vocals of the supremely-talented Miss Foxman from the original album version. But this release is all about the three remixes from Guti, Russ Yallop, and Just Be!
Desolat’s Argentinean supremo Guti offers his own refreshing take on the original, injecting some serious South American funk and flavour to proceedings. From the outset Guti stamps his unmistakable groove on the original taking the tempo up a level and adding new keys and vocal samples, culminating in a fantastic dance-floor orientated remix.
Next up is one of Crosstown Rebels leading lights Russ Yallop who lends his hand to create a trippy yet sensuous version of the original. His remix is characterised by striking deep bass and a jacking kick which take centre stage. The remix builds and builds into a swirling distorted crescendo until it drops back into its absorbing big-room beat.
Completing this package is a special dub by Just Be, one of Matt Bushwacka!’s aliases. It takes the listener on a much more hypnotic journey. While the subtle synths and haunting vocals of the original remain, these are complemented by adding new percussive elements to the track, taking it to new sonic depths.
Overall then fans can expect yet another strong remix package from Layo & Bushwacka! which features three extremely high-quality versions of the fantastic original.
04. Henry Saiz - The Cryptozoologist [Bedrock Digital | Beddigi-27]
Cryptozoology, the search for and study of animals whose existence or survival is disputed or unsubstantiated, such as the Loch Ness monster and the yeti, is something that Henry Saiz finds deeply intriguing. His love of exoticism and strange natural/organic sounds (his own label is called Natura Sonoris - which means Nature of Sound) provide the fuel for this latest stunning Bedrock release.
“The Cryptozoologist” has an instantly striking, mysterious Andean / Peruvian melodic influence that harks back to cultures shrouded in the mysteries of time, creating a truly haunting track. “Uncharted” is equally hypnotic and enthralling and yet distinctly different. Henry is using a lot of analogue vintage gear to create his music, which is giving him a very distinct sound, a path that will lead to his hotly awaited debut artist album (due out in April 2013) on which he will delve totally into and explore an analogue world.
Henry's critically acclaimed “Balance 019” album, released in 2011, was the catalyst for his star potential explode around the globe. His superb collaboration with Guy J (“Meridian”) and his solo track (“La Marea”) for the landmark Bedrock 100 release, were of the highest level of quality and his most recent release, “Our Discovery” (Natura Sonoris), became a huge Ibiza hit this summer, with supporters including John Digweed, Sasha, M.A.N.D.Y., Luciano, Visionquest, Danny Howells and many others. Henry Saiz is undoubtedly an extraordinarily talented young producer who is simply too exciting to be ignored!

06. Davi - Rebel Heart [unreleased]
Hailed as “LA's best kept secret”, David “DAVI” Khanjian grew up surrounded by the sounds of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Deeply passionate about music since childhood, it didn't take long before he was admitted to the prestigious Komitas State Conservatory's music department in Yerevan, Armenia. But it wasn't until his move to Los Angeles that the magic truly began to unfold.
Finding himself at a young ripe age of 20, he began producing electronic dance music, inspired by many world class producers and Djs that frequent the best LA clubs. Having already been the resident of the top electronic music club in Armenia and a trained musician, it was only matter of time that the heavyweights of the industry began to take notice. In a matter of just a few short months, guys like Hernan Cattaneo, Jody Wisternoff and Eelke Kleijn were all supporting David's dance floor bombs.
What followed could only be described as an intense journey deep into the heart. Combining his unique groove, stabbing melodies and deep pads, DAVI locked himself in his LA studio and dedicated himself to polishing his already amazing production skills. The payoff was soon to come and what a payoff it was.
Having always been a big fan of Robert Babicz, David loved and played his music. After a chance meeting, they became really good friends. Having someone like Robert as a mentor, and even being the first person to remix Robert on his new label Babiczstyle, opened many doors for the talented LA producer. A common name in the charts and dj sets of the likes of Guy J, Nick Warren, 16 Bit Lolitas and Neil Quigley he also opens up for guys like Hernan Cattaneo, Omid 16B and Demi on a regular basis.
2011 looks to be a very exciting year, already having released a monster remix of Underworld's “Two Months Off” anthem, and having the said track played live by Jody Wisternoff at the annual Burning Man festival, with over 50,000 people in attendance. With releases on labels such as Outside The Box, Treibstoff, Anjunadeep and Frisky Records already under his belt, DAVI is now collaborating with Eelke Kleijn and even 16 Bit Lolitas, soon to be out on their own Bits & Pieces imprint.
07. Quintin Christian & Vandermeer - Infatuation (James Teej Remix) (Bred For Pleasure EP) [Lower East | LOW027]
London’s Lower East label returns this December with Quintin Christian & Vandermeer’s ‘Bred For Pleasure’ EP backed with a remix from My Favorite Robot artist James Teej.
Lower East has gained a highly praised status over its twenty-seven releases earning support from a widespread variety of artists such as Wolf Music, My Favorite Robot, Maceo Plex, dOP, Huxley and Tone Of Arc, testament to the broad spectrum of music covered and the quality of the output. Here the imprint welcomes South African born now London based artist Quintin Christian and Canadian producer Vandermeer to the roster with this collaborative release ‘Bred For Pleasure’.
‘Infatuation’ opens the release, a beautifully crafted piece of slo-mo, vocal tinged deep house. The colossal, gritty electronic bass hook continually modulates throughout the track alongside weighty drums and soft whispering vocal lines resulting in an intelligent, emotive piece of music. Rekids and No.19 Music artist James Teej turns in a remix of ‘Infatuation’ next, stripping back the feel of the original cut to a more ethereal state, Teej cleverly used delays and reverbs to build a cavernous background atmosphere. Intricate melodies and vocal chops are introduced to the latter stages and the end result is a darker more peak-time interpretation.
Next up is ‘Trouble In Paradise’, a mood-driven track embodying a circling organ line, growling low-end bass hits and shuffling disco drums. The duo implant a warbling synth line and sporadic bell chime hits on top adding a stylish melodic movement to the track that ebbs & flows around the punchy percussion, creating an intricate dropped-tempo Nu-Disco cut.
To close the release Quintin & Vandermeer deliver ‘Clavier a Lumieres’, a deep, broken-beat electronica number that takes a slightly techier direction with its slow blooming structure that builds to a tumbling, tom-driven bass-line and heavily delayed synth shots that add sparkle and lots of atmosphere.
Quintin Christian & Vandermeer bring you a unique EP here with ‘Bed For Pleasure’, sure to appeal to a wide variety of artists with its diverse nature, embracing the modern forms of deep house, nu-disco and electronica.
Quintin Christian & Vandermeer’s ‘Bed For Pleasure’ is out on Lower East 10th December 2012.
