                      Release Notes:

                      01. Jonny Cruz - Devil's Hex (Avatism & Jeremy P Caulfield Remix) [My Favourite Robot Records | MFR060]

My Favorite Robot Records can do little wrong at the moment: whether it be their foray into album releases with Jori Hulkkonen (to be followed by Fairmont), their string of stellar singles this summer or their much hyped label showcase parties all eyes are certainly on this consistently excellent Canadian based label. Now the MFRR team look to join forces once again with Berlin based Puerto Rican producer Jonny Cruz, the man who provided the superb ‘Street Disco EP’ for the label last year.

Cruz has a history with My Favorite Robot Records that includes not only last year’s stunning EP but also a highly acclaimed collaborative release with Emerson Todd. He has also released music on labels such as Cocoon, Geno and Poker Flat records building an enviable reputation for quality electronic music.

The ‘Devil’s Hex EP’ kicks off with the original version of the title track, a deep and brooding slice of underground electronica with a dark tech edged house feel to it. Heavily effected vocal parts play up against menacing synth lines and haunting FX to create a supremely atmospheric record, quality stuff. The original is backed with a remix from Avatism & Jeremy P Caulfield who take time out from the Dumb Unit family stable to craft an ethereal and emotive remix of ‘Devil’s Hex’ that is a perfect accompaniment to the original.

The second of the original tracks see Cruz team up with Cali Lanuaze for a synth driven retro vocal workout that really hits the mark. Mid tempo bass and drum tracks provide the basis for intricately weaved dark melodies and vocals that have you locked in from the off. The original is followed with a superb remix from Crosstown Rebels artist Fur Coat who picks up the pace and moves things towards the dancefloor with a hypnotic mix with some intense top lines.

                      03. Pedro Aguiar - Watching You Leave [unreleased]

Lisbon's Pedro Aguiar [Baires Records | Voyage Inc. records | Freaky Vibes | Deep Disco Music | Rechsoul] is not your average producer. You may be wondering why, but the answer lies deep within his productions and technical knowledge, that seem to be resonating all over the globe as fast as no one would guess.

House/Techno/Electronica/Dub/Deep, you name it...there is a good chance that Pedro has done it, and done it really well we must say. The emotions that he puts on his work knows no limits, and that is making him a reference in his country and also a reference worldwide.

Just after 1 year in the business, he's already being charted, played and supported by the biggest names in the industry like Guy J, Danny Howells or Martin Landsky just to name a few.

All this surely is no surprise for those who know well Pedro, who's determination and expertise have made him who he is today and who he is set to become in the future.

                      04. dPen - As We Dance [unreleased]

Till know dPen has released songs in various respectable labels of the progressive house scene, like deep Focus, Subliminal, Lost Language , Presslab,Tiesto's Black Hole recs, Restart, Feral Code, Mestija, Sutil ,Bonzai, The Sound of Everything and many many more.

                      05. Orbital - Where Is It Going (In Plain Sight Remix) [APC Recordings | unreleased]

Our progressive rework of this track tries to capture the atmosphere of classic 90s orbital remixes like those done by the likes of Sasha, Charlie May and Breeder. [Nomad In The Dark]

Out of Asheville, North Carolina comes In Plain Sight [Hope Recordings, Stripped Recordings, Mirabilis Records, We Are Here, Brown Eyed BoyzMistique Digital, Release Records], three DJs and producers united towards a global, progressive groove. The “Paris of the South" is a perfect home for the trio, as it's a renowned creative beacon, drawing artistic types of many persuasions and styles, fostering a zone of constant inspiration. Some may be surprised that electronic music is a big part of Asheville's creative wellspring. Of course, Bob Moog was brainstorming his famous synthesizers in Asheville for the last portion of his life which may make the connection more tangible. In the present, the city's generosity of flavours combined with its imagination and electronic music esteem allowed three different musical souls to come together and form an exciting progressive house combo. This is In Plain Sight, comprised of Ezekiel, Lucas Ledford and Nomad in the Dark.

In Plain Sight's strength lies in how its individual members come from completely different backgrounds, creating a unique and intriguing new sound when working together. Iffy, AKA Nomad In The Dark, got his start in Pakistan where he avidly consumed mix tapes originating from UK hotspots like the Hacienda and Ministry Of Sound. Soon Iffy was making his own tapes and, upon relocating to the United States, began producing music for labels like Global Underground, Hope Recordings, and Audio Therapy. Ezekiel's background is even more surprising. He was the lead singer in a punk-ska band who, in a twist of fate, happened upon a DJ's house music set at a local club, thus changing his life. Within two months Ezekiel had quit his band and was purchasing his own set of turntables. The day he acquired his decks Ezekiel met Lucas Ledford, previously an assistant to a big event promoter in the southeast US. Lucas was now wanting to be more directly involved in the music and, with Ezekiel, started spinning records. Many years later the two ran into Nomad In The Dark, instantly formed a creative bond, and combined forces in what is now known as In Plain Sight.

In Plain Sight work within the realm of progressive house, bringing their own passions and experiences to their production and live sets for a stirring sonic result. The trio's tracks have proven equally effective in tiny darkened warehouses as well as in packed, international nightclubs, spun by some of the leading names in electronic music. Sasha, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo and Dave Seaman are just some of the esteemed fans of their work, with Sasha and Digweed including In Plain Sight's remix of Ran Shani's "Classics" in their infamous boat party set at 2010's Winter Music Conference. In Plain Sight's remix of Nomad in the Dark's "Shine Like A Poor Man" found a home on Nick Warren's Hope Recordings label where it was supported by Arman Van Burren, and Beatport publicly remarked that this rework was "how progressive house should be made."

Together as In Plain Sight the three continue to grow and prosper, far outreaching their Asheville roots and quickly becoming global players. Further expanding their audience, the members of In Plain Sight are regular guest DJs on D:Fuse's popular Sirius/XM Radio program as well as many other radio mix shows listened to from all points of the globe. Likewise, their tracks frequently receive global airplay, and In Plain Sight's live DJ appearances, previously confined to within the USA, are planned to reach ears and dance floors in Europe within the year. The trio's production schedule is busy as well, with remixes soon planned for Mistique Records, Sounds of Want, and Quiver's Boz Boz label. However, the unique melting pot of Asheville looms large, and In Plain Sight come full circle in autumn 2012 as they are confirmed to perform at Moogfest 2012's Ah Ha Moog concert series. This honor is only given to acts that the Moog organization feels are 'on their way up,' and the nod from electronic music royalty, even if by degrees of separation, is not lost on In Plain Sight. It's a legacy that the group aims to continue and spread worldwide, perhaps best expressed in their motto: Past words. Beyond borders. In Plain Sight.

                      06. Flume - Sleepless (Midland Dub) [Future Classic | FCL72]

Flume, Sydney's 20 year old electronic producer prodigy gets his debut single remixed by the futuristic touches of LA's Schlohmo as well a dubbed out rerub by London based Midland.

Out today digitally and 12 vinyl with DL code on 8 October

                      Released by: Future Classic
                      Release/catalogue number: FCL72
                      Release date: Sep 24, 2012

                      [Factmag]

Australian tenderfoot FLUME has got an impressive remix, courtesy of Midland.

FLUME has barely inched out of his teens, but he’s already enjoyed modest success with last year’s ‘Sleepless’, featuring vocals from Jezzabell Doran. A glossy piece of crawling house, it’s essentially a burnished, lacquered version of Scandi-disco.

Future Classic are set to give the track a deluxe release on September 24, bolstered by some notable remixes: one from pensive LA beatnik Shlohmo, and the other from rising UK producer Midland. FACT have an exclusive stream of the latter – and it’s thick as molasses.

As demonstrated on 2011 breakthrough ‘Bring Joy’, Midland’s an unusually sensuous producer when he wants to be, able to counterpoint brittle drum programming with soft-blush synth textures and all-enveloping reverb. In contrast to his sinewy collaborations with Pariah, Midland’s remix soothes rather than rattles. It’s also one of his more triumphant cuts: like his recent fist-pumping rework of Dusky’s ‘Resin’), this is thoughtfully constructed, undeniably smart big room house.

                      07. Lateral Cut Groove - Organised Chaos (Fall Particles EP 2012) [Particles | PSE1204]

As the Northern hemisphere plays host to the autumnal equinox, summer comes to an end, the seasons transform and Particles keeps spirits high with the release of its quarterly compilation series. The 'Fall 2012' compilation brings together an uplifting collection of tracks featuring artists from Canada, Ireland and the Russian Federation to usher in the new season. BiG AL is the head honcho and linchpin of the "Ready Mix" label empire and, as one half of the Beatfactory, he is a veteran of the music industry.

With a string of releases to his name on imprints such as Vapour, Sick Watona and Alterimage, he was also chosen as one of Montreal's Tip 3 'Beat masters' in the "Hour Magazine". BiG AL's "Captured" features a beautifully constructed locked groove combined with a deep pulsing bass line and rhythmic stabs that form the basis for a crystalline lead melody to wend its way across the top. The 2012 Fall Particles Compilation marks something of an anniversary for Russian, Andrew Benson. It was here, as part of the 2011 Fall collection, that Particles was introduced to Andrey Malookov's track "Underwater" which went on to a full release with superb remixes by Maxi Valvona and Martin Etchegary. With a further back catalogue of tracks signed to Black Hole, Moonbeam Digital and Olaris, Andrew Benson's "I Will Be" continues his penchant for rich melodies and luscious pads, but this combines with a cavernous bass line, pulsating menacingly underneath to produce an epic sound.

With a UK degree in 'Music Technology', Irishman John Kearns has already acquired a portfolio of production and engineering skills. Producing under the name Lateral Cut Groove, John is a resident of Proton label, Liquid Grooves as well as featuring tracks on Baires, and Stripped. With an additional monthly podcast entitled "Deeper Shades", Lateral Cut Groove has come up with a sublime deep vibe for Particles with his track "Organised Chaos". A deep, sustained and granular bass line plays host to a sea of hypnotic pads and intermittent melodies against a driving beat to produce an intricate, engaging sound.

Adding to the ever-growing repertoire of Russian producers, newcomer Gregory Shakan, producing under the name Progreg has a passion for "profound and melodic music that makes us think". Following this simple axiom, the Moscow resident's track "Deep Harmony" is full or driving rhythmic energy, interlaced with sweeping pads and sharp, emotion-laden riffs that cut an angular path to produce a spine-tingling outcome. Abdomen burst is no stranger to world of EDM and his breaks-fuelled productions have filled the roster of Proton label, Silk Digital. As a frequent resident of the Beatport breaks top 100, "Fall Particles" sees the first outing of Andrew's new production guise 'Bad Neighbor'. "Summer Cocktail" is a heady mix of house piano chops, pitched vocal hits and an electro-tinged bass line that combine to produce a late-summer blend of fun and frolics. With 5 brand new tracks from to stimulate the senses, 'Fall' looks increasingly warm.

                      08. Totem Pole - Dark Chapel (Ewan Rill Remix) [Stripped Digital | 114SD]

Argentina's Totem Pole returns after a long hiatus to Stripped Digital with the Hernan Cattaneo supported "Dark Chapel" featuring a remix from Ewan Rill.

An advance of the original track originally featured in Resident 033.

Ewan Rill (aka Deep Dusk) born Ivan Romanovskiy, Saint Petersburg (Russia) is on remix duty. Ewan has tracks and remixes on My Little Dog, Balkan Connection - BCSA, Baroque (Method, Digital), Vurtical (Per-Vurt), Stripped Digital, KP Recordings, Mistiquemusic and Balkan Delights ... plus many more.

                      09. Nikko.Z - Dopamine (Chris Mozio Remix) [Dopamine Music | DPM 001]

Greek producer Nikko Z has steadily built himself into one of the leading producers in the new landscape of progressive house. His deep, percussive and rolling hypnotic sound is routinely championed by Hernan Cattaneo and he has become a firm favourite with DJs around the globe who look for a more contemporary take on progressive house. Nikko has appeared on an abundance of quality imprints over the last year including Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat, Movement Recordings, Proton and Vapour. The last quarter of 2012 sees Nikko establishing his own 'Dopamine' imprint which will feature many of his own productions as well as fresh material from many of his favourite producers and industry friends. The first Dopamine release comes courtesy of label boss Nikko. Z with the appropriately titled 'Dopamine' which comes with remixes from: Tash, Chris Mozio and Dale Middleton.

Nikko's original begins with a wealth of scattered drum elements, pristine electronics and a pulsating bass line that delivers some serious dance floor bounce. Descending chord changes on the bottom end soon follow and should be incredibly impactful on the floor. A set of ominous pads and haunting synth elements soon fill the air along with some cascading keys with a well produced glistening quality. The main drop sees the melodic elements eventually become the showcase element amidst some panning drums which serve to build some nice tension before the pulsating groove and ominous, well textured synths reappear for a heavenly finish to the record.

The first remix is supplied by Movement Recordings boss DJ Tash. Tassos Papagiannoulis aka Tash is certainly one of the most influential figures from the Greek electronic music scene and also one of the countries hardest working DJs. Recent appearances on Tribal Vision, Lowbit and of course his own Movement imprint along with an October gig at MOS with Hernan Cattaneo and Luis Junior has shot Tash even further into the spotlight and as 2012 draws to a close his momentum just continues to rise. Tash's 'Salty' interpretation of 'Dopamine' uses all the killer drum elements from Nikko's original but over a much more spacious sounding groove. As the composition grows the groove really starts to rumble and with main drop drawing near the energy is palpable. The break would have to be one of Tash's finest melodic moments. Filled with emotional chord changes, shimmering keys and a long build this is dance floor magic waiting to happen. The energy following the break is even larger with waves of electric sounding bass propelling the composition to a great climax.

The second interpretation comes from Greek producer Chris Mozio. Chris has long been a staple of the Movement Recordings artist roster and has also appeared on Vapour and Lowbit. Chris has been very quiet on the production front recently with his last outing coming over a year ago with his remix of Cid Inc's 'Cotai Strip' for Movement Recordings in July of 2012. Chris' fans will be delighted to see him back and it's been well worth the wait as he's delivered a killer interpretation of 'Dopamine'. Chris has overhauled the track into a stripped down and hypnotic driver with great club energy. The breakdown showcases a subtle and emotionally touching melodic interlude which serves as a great centre piece for the driving waves of momentous energy that surround it.

The final remix on the package comes from Dale Middleton. The UK producer shot into the spotlight this year with his first productions (a collaboration with Adam Shaw) getting signed to Lowbit Records and earning support from: Hernan Cattaneo, Guy J, Nick Muir, Dave Seaman, Eelke Kleijn and Luke Porter. Dale's 'Touched' interpretation of 'Dopamine' is a superb complement to the package as it comes with a much funkier groove that's accented with snips of the key sequences from the original and the wavering atmospheric tension that seems to build and build throughout the composition. It's the perfect mix to put a cap on an outstanding first release from Nikko Z's Dopamine imprint.

I think the quality is higher though Berps ... more of a chance to condense into one hour than try and fill two.

Hows things ... you still going out at all ?

I don't think they are better quality musically , equal, Hernan would always give us the best . Even in the metrodance days he had hundreds to choose from every week. I have just finished uploading all the metrodance shows to mediafire and listening. There some amazing shows. !! It would probably be harder in some ways now, because it is so much easier for people to produce music. He would be spending far more time now going through tracks. Strangely enough I would probably be happier with 2 x 2 hours a month. Or even one. Time to savour

Got another Aussie I have never heard of. Off to find out more.
