2 did suck. Have hope for this because of Kingsley.

Re: Iron Man 3 [2013]
I enjoyed 2 a fair bit.... definitely not as much as numero uno, but how many sequels have surpassed the first? We ask for the world don't we.
This one I will enjoy as well... Robert Downey is perfect as Iron Man~ You are what you think you are ~

Re:
I saw it on Friday. It was good, overall. WAY better than part 2! The only part that I didn't like (I'm not gonna spoil it) was a certain comedy factor that was implemented regarding a certain someone. It's the same thing that a lot of people are complaining about. I'll leave that as is. Otherwise, it was definitely worth going to see. The guy at the concession counter was a douche. He said something like, oh, it (the movie) was a good end to the franchise.. I was like....uhmmm...Avengers 2?Comment

Re: Iron Man 3 [2013]
I kinda hated it. It's better than 2, but I'm a longtime Iron Man comic fan and the Extremis series was amazing when I first read it—not quite a reinvention but an upgrade to the character that conceptually made Iron Man more futuristic than a hi-tech suit. If you read the ongoing comics, the Extremis story created a platform for other writers to build on, it's amazing.
This movie felt very compressed with too many sub plots going on: Stark and his 'PTSD,' Stark and his distractions, Stark and Pepper, Stark and the kid, Stark and Aldrich, Stark and the Mandarin. There was nothing techno-thriller about it, seeing Stark swagger into the Mandarin's mansion with his homemade toys was a joke.
And I can't forgive what they did with the Mandarin. In a way I thought Iron Man 3 felt like Spider-Man 3 with too many villains thrown in for no reason.

Re: Iron Man 3 [2013]
Not quite as good as the first, but better than the second.
The second movie lost its focus on story after the race in Monaco - the entire movie spiraled out of control and Sam Rockwell's "competitor" role was too silly to be taken seriously as a threat, much less Mickey Rourke's character after the arrest.
With this, I didn't mind it - Guy Pearce was a decent, oily villain and I went along with Ben Kingsley's The Mandarin, even if it didn't quite follow the expectation that I had for him. The jihadi themed threat videos were really well done, and I found quite chilling (even if it was a bit far fetched that he could seize the airwaves on a whim).
What bothered me about the film is how Disney interfered with the script and eliminated Tony Stark's alcoholism and replaced it with anxiety attacks. While the nature of the anxiety attacks did make sense with Tony Stark suddenly realizing that there's a much bigger picture after the events in The Avengers, I wasn't sold on how the anxiety attacks were triggered. With Robert Downey Jr's history, they could have maybe gotten a really, really good performance with Stark dealing with his demons at the bottom of a bottle - a really wasted opportunity.
Overall, I still quite liked it, it worked for me and was a decent superhero film, but it was just short of spectacular. I really liked Shane Black's direction of the film, and he and Downey Jr. have proven chemistry with their previous collaboration, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. If they had kept the original screenplay in tact, they really could have pulled off something special - they had a lot of the ingredients with the humor and the plot twists in my eyes, but they pulled back on something that kind of what makes Marvel superheroes so special - very flawed people behind the masks.Comment

Re: Iron Man 3 [2013]
Stark's alcoholism doesn't really feature in this series, in the comic it happened early on in his Iron Man career. (Although him turning to alcohol would be a nice way to show how he handles the aftermath of Avengers)

Re: Iron Man 3 [2013]
They've downplayed it, but gave hints of it in the second film. The original draft was supposed to show him going into full blown alcoholism and trying to get a handle on it - the last scene in the film was pretty much the only bit that survived.Comment
