    Charlie Sheen & Denise Richards

As you may or may not know, Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards have a baby on the way (like 6 weeks out) but are getting divorced. I happened to hear on the radio this morning that the divorce is getting pretty acrimonious, and has escalated to the point that Denise is prohibiting Charlie from being in the delivery room during the birth because he might introduce negative energy into the room. Sheen would like to be present for the birth of their second child.

Can she do that? Forget for a moment that Sheen is a jackass and try to look at this in a vaccuum -- assuming that there are no issues with the safety of the mother or anything like that, doesn't a father have a right to be a part of that whole moment? It takes two to tango, and its not like he could tell her that she couldn't be present for the birth...

Seems like a double standard to me. I know years ago men didn't really have much role in the whole process, but that has kinda changed over time. Now that the womenfolk have brought us into the delivery room, I think we have a right to be there if we want to, at least with all else being equal.

I know Sheen is a douchebag, and he's probably been served with divorce papers for a combination of running around with hookers and other conduct that might be construed of less than supportive of the pregnancy process, but that seems a bit harsh.

Sounds like this kid is being turned into a pawn in his/her parents war before even being born. Let the good times roll.

    Wow, interesting subject!

On this one I have no real opinion, but can see 2 sides of the issue:

    1) Sheen is the father of the child and should have some rights however,

    2) what about Richards rights to privacy? Ie., should Sheen, now seperated from Richards, be allowed in the room and be able to potentially see her *ahem* (I wouldn't mind seeing it, of course outside of a hospital setting )?

Suppose for a moment that roles were reversed and men could have babies. Would you want your ex to be in the room while all you have over you is a thin paper blanket?

I guess if I had to decide I'd allow the father to be present, although I have no logical explaination. I'm just trying to weigh feelings.

Tough issue. There's no logic in divorces. I'm sure part of the reason he wants to be there is she doesn't want him to be there. And part of the reason she doesn't want him there is he wants to be there.

People going through this stuff do whatever they can to hurt each other sometimes.

I don't know how I feel about it, but if I was him, I'd probably not go in. I'd want to be there, and I'd want to see and hold the baby right after, but I think I'd let her do it on her own with a friend or family member she wants.

If she wanted me in, I'd go in, but if she didn't, I'd understand that.

Welcome to the latest development of societal absurdity due to the weirdo left. A woman can demand 50% of a mans fututre earnings when they are divorced, 50% of the earnings he earns after they have gone their separate ways. Men are quite rightly looked down upon as evil and wrong if they do not pay child support for a child that is 50% theres, but we will have a debate we will consider a womans opinion with sympathy when she says the father of her child should not be present at its birth. Women appear to want the cake and eat it too and then sue the guy that made it for 50% of the wage he made selling it too her. Each day we slide further and further toward the apocalypse.

I've got to say, I'm really unlcear on how I stand on this myself. She has the right, I think, to go through what is truly a highly emotional event on her own terms. On the other hand, he's got an interest in seeing his child born as well. Does he lose this right by virtue of being a jackass? I don't really think so.

I like the idea that was thrown out where he isn't in the room but gets to see his child as soon after brith as possible. That's how it was done years ago anyway, seems like a reasonable compromise. I really go back and forth on it, though...

It's fucked up, I agree, but I don't really see this as the fault of the right or the left. It is what it is. If anything, it is the anamolous result that occurs when traditional conservative values -- that suggest that a man be the breadwinner and the woman stay home with the kids -- meet with more progressive ideas of the equality of women.

It does bear mention, though, that an ex-wife does not automatically get 50% these days -- with more two-income families and less housewives sitting at home, there are fewer women who are completely dependent upon their husbands to sustain them. Alimony is ultimately based upon need and the ability to fend for one's self -- if a woman hasn't forgone a career to stay at home, she probably isn't going to get much in alimony...

I don't think it is as simple as the clashing of old and new moral values I think it is simpler. I think it is women manipulating the idea of equality and position in an effort to retain both the benefits they would have received as members of a society thirty years ago and the ones they can claim today. It is a member of the system abusing the limits of the system, nothing more.

i dont have much of an opinion about the delivery room issue but from the pics i have seen recently, charlie looks like he has been reprising some of his old character bud fox's hard living. i like a little toot every now and then as much as the next guy but his face is a testament to what twenty years of that can do to you IMO. :?

I don't think he has a right to see his child being born. He does have a right to see his child after its born though.

In Texas, it's 20% of earnings to be paid to the mother for child support until the child reaches adult age.

My ilk? Well allow me to retort. My response you closed minded knuckle head was that our leftist, hand holding, tree hugging, everyone is equal, rights for everyone, society has created insanely contradictory notions in the heads of it's members, whereby a woman can demand everything from a man and have nothing demanded from her in return.
