Salva & Groundislava and Daedelus @ Culture Clash, Exchange - LA (05.12.2012)

For this year’s RBMA Culture Clash in Los Angeles, four of the city’s most respected collectives faced off in a battle for the local bass crown. From Steve Aoki’s multi-faceted Dim Mak label, to Mad Decent’s new micro-label Jeffree’s reaping for that “real trap sh*t,” to the Shlohmo-headed Friends of Friends crew, to the dubstep rulers at SMOG Records – this competition was jam-packed with different approaches to make trunks rattle and booties drop.

The warm-up round saw each crew laying down their agendas. Friends of Friends raked in the most audible female reception and then launched into their own brand of Internet-approved, emotional dance music.

Round 2 raised the antagonism among the contestants, as the crews were asked to imitate the style of an opposing posse.
On the receiving side, the Jeffree’s impression was left to Friends of Friends. With Academy alum Salva repeatedly making fun of their label name, Daedelus was faced with the task of pulling out that “real trap sh*t” to more effect than the Mad Decent imprint.
