    Release Notes:

    01. Slacker - Come Back Home (Start A New Life LP) [Godlike And Electronic | GAE013]

"It’s kinda trip hop/mid tempo stuff, think DJ Shadow meets Moby meets Groove Armada. It’s kinda organic, funky, sample-based, journey-like, atmospheric, thoughtful, warm. And not too serious." [Shem McCauley]

"Have a few drinks for me, remember me warmly, then get on quick: know I am living it large in a new place, or dead and free from all the over-thinking and not-enoughness, somewhere similar." [ [Shem McCauley from the Big Jukebox In The Sky]

    [URB]

Shem McCauley is no stranger to laying low. After what has been a long imposed hiatus he has quietly reemerged… and we do mean quietly. Originally you would have known Shem as DJ Streets Ahead, a pioneer in the UK hip-hop scratch scene. The man has more remixes than you can shake a tone arm at. Just to name a few, to give you a feel, he has worked with the likes of Prodigy, Moby, Sister Sledge, Roxane Shante, James Brown, Carl Cox, Tim Westwood, Junkie XL, and Public Enemy. Shem is continuing now with the moniker Slacker and on February 23rd is releasing his next album, Start A New Life on Godlike & Electric Records.

I can’t begin to tell you just how smooth this album is much less how much of a surprise it was to have it dropped in my box. Basically Shem is keeping things under wraps until the release date as best he can. What I can tell you is that if you are a fan of downtempo this is right up your alley. It reminded me of “Entroducing” by Shadow on heroin and opium bender. Beautiful, simply beautiful. If you are a fan of groups like Sabers of Paradise, Dusted, Boards of Canada, The KLF and the like the you should do yourself a favor and grab this when it drops.

    02. Prisko - Cast Away (Bypass Earth EP) [Lunte | LUNTE002]

Lunte is the new label, and a division of 200 Records (Cologne, DE) for music one step beneath the dance floor.

What would have happened if Tevo Howard, Omar S and Theo Parrish all grew up in Köln-Rodenkirchen? This one!

The second Lunte release comes from three young guys called “Prisko” from the south of Cologne and brings you four deep-as-hell house tracks !

Bypass It and Super Constellation written and produced by Yannick Schütte, Jan-Willem Marquardt and Sebastian Süsser. Cast Away and Soif written by Yannick Schütte.

    03. Wefeelnomath - Look (Owain K moreorless Reflow) (Import Export EP) [Teng Records | TENG003]

British imprint Teng drops the ‘Import Export’ EP by Italian duo Wefeelnomath this January backed with a remix from Owain K.

Teng Records is run by Nick Woolfson, one half of production outfit Mock & Toof and since its launch has seen in two releases from Woolfson under his AKRA alias. Here Nick steps aside to introduce two new artists to the roster, Wefeelnomath, the collaborative effort of Italian’s Matthias Cordsen and Filippo Rocco.

The release opens with ‘Order Another 1 Cup’, a deep ethereal number infused with captivating sounds. The duo sit atmospheric field recordings in the background building an intense hidden depth while the foreground contains warm pad lines, gritty shuffling drums, elongated proggy bass-lines and warbling synth melodies, creating something unique and intriguing.

Next up is ‘Look’ picking up the pace slightly with a rolling, insistent percussion movement. The Milan based producers blend abstract, enchanting pads, a raw Juno style electronic bass and vocal snippets in an ever- evolving fashion. Applying cavernous reverbs and subtle delays on the various elements to create a blossoming progressive vibe.

Dessous and Poker Flat artist ‘Owain K’ steps up to remix ‘Look’ next, stamping his low-slung, gritty signature on the original cut. K strips back the vibe, picking away at a selection of elements and remolding them with his exclusive style. A bulbous sub-bass runs for the duration of the cut alongside the originals vocal and a dusty, stabbing synth melody, resulting in a smooth afterhours reinterpretation.

To close the release Wefeelnomath deliver ’80′s Century’, a heady, percussive led track embracing the soul- laden sound of Detroit house music. A groovy, natural bass lick runs with swung percussion, an amalgamation of blues style vocal chops and sensual Rhodes. Beautifully capturing the essence of retro house music yet instilling the cut with a forward thinking approach through intricate variations and clever automation touches.

Out on Teng Records / January 2013

    04. Lake People - Trace Ae (Step Over - Trace Into EP Pt.01) [Connaisseur Recordings | cns056-6]

The Lake People are responsible for the next release from Offenbach label Connaisseur Recordings, with two compositions forming the 'Step Over, Trace Into Pt. 1' extended player. The two original tracks 'Ae Trace' and 'Changeover' are bolstered courtesy of Russian producer Ghostek.

It's been a while since we last added a new talent to the connaisseur roster. After mainly having worked off Kollektiv Turmstrasse and Chymera album extracts with the last releases, we proudly kick-off 2013 with Leipzig's Lake People. The release is rounded up by two extraordinary remixes by another young gun - the russian artist Ghostek. His straight interpretation is a Midland-ish sort of melodic Techno / Dubstep-Hybrid, whereas his second version is a perfect b2 tune with clever beats and alluring melodies.

The EP will be released on 23 January 2013 as a vinyl edition. The digital publication will be made on 4 February 2013.

    Label: Connaisseur Recordings
Release Date: 23rd of Janury (vinyl) / 4th of February (digital), 2013
    Format : 12" / Digital
    Cat-No : cns056-6

    05. Reptile Youth - Be My Yoko Ono (Francis Harris & Gry Dub) [hfn Music | HFN23]

Reptile Youth are back to mix up your head and break your heart with another standout track from their exceptional debut album. ‘Be My Yoko Ono’ is yet another slice of the Youth at their best – an electrifying, exhilarating rush of electro pop set to detonate the airwaves and dancefloors alike. Mads Damsgaard Kristiansen delivers his plea over a ferocious bass riff by partner-in-crime Esben Valløe, while the whole thing threatens to spiral out of control like an over-indulgent, neon lit night in the big city.

Featuring a call and response duet with the vocalist of the Danish female band Nelson Can. Be sure to check out the track’s stunning video courtesy of Lucy McRae, and see our heroes rendered and manipulated as puppets of technology.

This forth single from Reptile Youth’s album also delivers a set of essential remixes – maintaining their reputation for collaborating with the hottest talents out there.

LA based psych-rock-dub-synth-pop-duo Peaking Lights’ remix plays up the bright, day-glo synths and draws out even more of the new wave influences, echoing their groundbreaking work on last year’s ‘936’ and the new ‘Lucifer’ long players.

Brooklynite Francis Harris, (aka Adultnapper), alongside his collaborator Gry Bagoien, also produce two sublime mixes. The main mix strips down the original to a low slung, moody affair, while the dub takes it further into to the realm of discerning dancefloors.

Reptile Youth continue their year of total world domination – the only question remaining is whether you are already on board

    06. Kate Simko - Go On Then feat. Jem Cooke (Blondish Remix)[Leftroom Records | LEFT036]

Chicago’s Kate Simko is one of recent years USA’s most accomplished electronic music talents – a genuine music love who commands equal respect behind the decks, the mixing desk and the keyboard.

Having chalked up releases for Hello?Repeat, Supplement Facts and Spectral Sound as well as a debut LP for the latter’s parent imprint, Ghostly International, Simko’s talents have been widely noted while recent releases and a live show alongside Tevo Howard as PolyRhythmic have cemented an already cast-iron reputation.

‘Go On Then’ in original form is a textbook example of subtlety, with rich yet unobtrusive production and flickering melodies giving way to Jem Cooke’s earthy vocal and songwriting talents. Ian Pooley, a true house-music master, builds on the original’s uncluttered aesthetic with an unctuous bassline-driven version that gently wraps itself in cossetting melodies before opening up at just the right moments. It’s these melodies that are allowed to run riot in Pooley’s dub, making for an intensely absorbing listen.

Franck Roger treads a heavier, MAW dub styled, path with his Mix version, where clattering percussion and earthquake bottom end provides a zippy undercurrent for a heady mix of warped vocal effects and gritty synths while his dub mix pushes a more urgent, harder backbone through the tripped out textures.

The ascendant Blond:ish close the package with a sub-aquatic lesson in low-end theory where every element has to have it’s own melody, space and counterpoint and deep house is a futurist artform.

    07. Marco Faraone - Why You Left (Changing My Place EP) [Etruria Beat | ETB010]

Marco Faraone (Etruria Beat, Moon Habour, Cècille, Get Physical, Truesoul, Catwash) is a reputable techno/house DJ and producer born in Lucca, Italy. Music runs in his blood, as his grandfather was a folk singer and guitarist, and his father was DJ/host of one of the first dance music radio shows in his region. With an interest in jazz, Drum-n-bass and hip-hop, he eventually got a pair of turntables and his skills developed.

By the mid 00s Marco’s musical interests evolved into house and techno, and by 2008 he was playing at one of Spain’s largest electronic music events, the Klubbers Day Festival at the Telefónica Arena in Madrid. Subsequently, he was asked to play in a number of the capital’s top clubs such as Fabrik, Danzoo Macumba and Life is Music parties. This was also the year when he released his first productions like “Arabia” on the label of Alex Neri (Tenax recordings).

In summer 2009, Marco played at the Electrosonic Festival in Burgos, Spain, and his Meat Pack EP in collaboration with Luca Agnelli (on the label Monacalda) brought in lots of new attention amongst international DJs. At this point Marco established contact with Loco Dice and sent him an unreleased re-edit track, which became a staple in Dice’s sets for six months straight. Once fellow Desolat artist Arado heard it, he was so impressed that he contacted Marco to give it a proper pressing on All Inn Records. By the end of the year, Marco also had a new 12” ready, the "Want life time EP" which reached the 1 position on leading international online shop Decks.

New projects include a studio collaboration with his new friend Arado, to be released on Dame-Music (the new label from Dj Bloody Mary). Next up is a 4 track E.P to be proud of coming in the form of the mighty Moon Harbour records, the label of leipzig's Matthias Tanzmann, the E.P will consist of 4 original tracks , with the new signing to Moon Harbour comes the privilege to remix one of the best producers of the moment (Martinez). And finaly Marco is working hard on a new project with fellow friend Luca Agnelli this will consist of a new records label named Etruria Beat records.

    08. Dake - Walkway (Internal Disaster EP) [Playperview | PPV007]

Playperview welcomes Dake for his second EP. Following his smash track "Melt Flux" the young talented brings us two fresh works, and again, with big potential. The track "Walk Away" is a gentle soothing one, filling the listeners with countless emotions. As the headline track on the EP, "Internal Disaster" fits perfectly for the club madness, with sexy and catchy vocals on top of it. Atapy also brings a good dancefloor remix for "Internal Disaster", fulfilling the pack with great style.

    09. Crazy P - Beatbox (Burnski Mix) [2020 Vision | VIS233]

2020 Vision drop a killer remix package of Crazy P this January, taken from the forthcoming Crazy P Remixes album out early January 2013, the wax features exclusive remixes from reputable talents Burnski, Bonar Bradberry and Wolf + Lamb.

2020 Vision released the Crazy P ‘Heartbreaker [Remixes]’ in late 2012 which featured remixes from two rising stars of the underground, Huxley and Mark E. Now the label displays its undeniable A&R skills once again, pulling in the services of four incredibly hyped artists to deliver tasteful, intelligent reworks of this British band.

The package opens with the ‘Burnski Remix’ of ‘Beatbox’, the Leeds born producer ventures in a slightly more funk-laden direction from his usual raw, deep house vibes, instead opting for a slo-mo, soulful disco feel, embracing the aesthetic of the original cut and stamping his mark on it with a fusion of warm synths and shuffling drums.

Next up is PBR Streetgang member Bonar Bradberry, with his remix of ‘Eruption’, Bradberry kicked up a storm in 2012 with releases for heavily hyped imprint Needwant, alongside Ejeca, Kim Ann Foxman and Maxxi Soundsystem. Here he shows just why he’s been in such high demand as of late, providing a heady, hypnotic rework infused with warmth and energy. Bradberry skillfully layers snippets of the original cuts vocals on top of his signature, dropped-tempo insistent groove reshaping the cut as a peak-time heavy hitter.

Closing the release 2020 employ the services of New York’s Wolf + Lamb feat. Slow Hands. The Wolf + Lamb crew stepped on to the radar of underground house music several years ago and its safe to say, firmly positioned themselves as purveyors of a niche and exciting contemporary sound. The duo’s mix of ‘We Can Only Be’ shows exactly that, with off-kilter broken beat drums, emotive guitar chords and staccato licks running alongside a walking style bass-line and gospel style vocal lines, resulting in a smooth and classy interpretation.

This is yet another outstanding release from the 2020 Vision label and a clear cut sign that 2013 is going to be another stellar year for the brand.

    [Picadilly Records]

Crazy P return with the final remixes from the When We On album. These three remixes were the exclusive new mixes on the recent digital only remix album, but it’s only fair that remixes of this quality come out on wax.

Burnski personally requested the parts to Beatbox to make a mix for his own sets, but once we heard it we knew it had to find a wider audience. Burnski really knows his way around real musical parts, and has kept the vibe of the original intact but has made it his own in his superb deep house style.

Bonar Bradberry is one half of PBR Streetgang and good mates with Crazy P, his mix was a staple in Ibiza last season at the PBR residency at Space, and from a few other lucky DJ’s.

Finally Wolf & Lamb have always been supporters of Crazy P and repay the favour of remix with a beautiful chilled version of Wecanonlybewhoweare that features some slinky guitar licks from Slow hands.

    10. Spin Science - Wonderland (Tom Middleton Liquatech Mix) [Audio Tonic Records | AT019]

Dubai's Audio Tonic Records starts 2013 with 'Wonderland' by Spin Science, backed with a remix from Tom Middleton.

Audio Tonic Records have had a stellar 2012 with remixes and original material coming from the likes of The Revenge, Vincenzo, Ian Pooley, Jimpster and Florian Kruse. The prospect of what's to come in 2013 is an exciting one as the imprint continues to provide excellence through its musical output, radio show and events at Dubai's infamous 360 Club.

lar Aasmae aka Spin Science is an Estonian producer most notably known for his work with the likes of Urban Torque, Plastic City, Global Underground and Proton Music and here he joins the Audio Tonic roster. The original version of 'Wonderland' opens the release, a shuffling house track with a classic feel. Weighty off-kilter drums lead the way alongside deep hi-strings, a gritty, hooky electronic bass and smooth Rhodes licks. Aasmae turns in a raw, deep house cut that's indicative of why he's grabbed the attention of some of electronic music's pioneering labels, 'Wonderland' is tasteful and direct.

Next up is Tom Middleton's 'Liquatech Mix' of 'Wonderland', The British producer who has been heavily involved in the Acid House movement over the years and worked with Josh Wink's Ovum, delivers melodic, groove-led house music. Employing swirling synth lines, sporadic filter automation and a rumbling low-end movement to create sonorous house full of warm depths and intensities.

This is a killer package to kick-start the year for Audio Tonic Records, Spin Science' 'Wonderland' is out on 14th January 2013.

that's the track I was talking about in the other thread!

Found it after going through youtube seeking out Slacker tracks this time last year.

very somber, and its emphasised given the circumstances.

      Remember Slacker.

Knox guest mix now up ... excellent stuff if like some of the tougher industrial sounds coming out of Berghain.

            Highly recommended.
