What does it mean when it says programmed by Charlie May? Does it mean Charlie chose the order of the songs, whereas both of them did the track selection and the mixing?

Programming a mix means planning track order, cue points, transitions, etc.*

Isn't that the same as mixing? What were they doing when it took two of them to 'mix' this?

I SUSPECT that May is a better "programmer" than Lavelle (who can't mix).

That is about the way I would take it.

@ feather, Well, James to mix , Charlie to fix

I'd have peg it as Lavelle and May on selection, May on mixing/mastering everything else

is it my ears or is some of the mixes, like downpipe into flutes poor for a mix that was programmed and edited and not done live ?

I liked this set, the vocals are a bit different than I normally here. This is the first James Lavelle set I've heard.

lavelle is old skool, i have seen him open for sasha and dig a few times back in the day. he gets a bad rap by too many people regarding his skills, it gets old.

if you like this then i also recommend
his dazed and confused one which is really good too.
his other one called "unkle sounds - the end" has some good parts too

^^ James has a reputation as playing amazing and wonderfully unexpected music. I believe that is his priority, I doubt mixing is , which is why this is a great collaboration. !!

The night I walked out I actually came back and heard an hour of that amazing and wonderfully unexpected music that blew me away.
