The Garage Turns 1!
Few clubs can claim to have scaled the heights of Leeds’ The Garage in the last 12 months. To celebrate its first year in operation the club has three great parties lined up this week with Nick Hoppner, Virginia, Maurice Fulton and Chris Lattner.
The Garage won DJ Mag’s award for Best Club in 2012 as well as being picked out by Mixmag as one of their clubs of the year. It’s easy to see why given the diverse line-ups and parties that include everyone from Back to Basics to Hush House, Selective Hearing to Lowbrow. DJs like Chez Damier, Andres, Tom Demac, Steffi, Braiden, The Revenge, Kink, Neville Watson and many more have all passed through the club.
It’s a warren like den with a dark and raw main room complete with Chevy Fire Truck DJ Booth, and connected to it is a second, more intimate and cosy room, Waxwerks, which also doubles as record shop during the day. With boutique art and deign throughout, vinyl covers on the walls and candle lit walkways, it’s the intimate space Leeds really needed.
As for the parties, Lowbrow go first on Thursday with Ostgut Ton label manager Nick Hoppner, slow jams specialist OOFT and acclaimed Steffi collaborator and vocalist Virginia, then Disco Til I Die party with the remix legend Maurice Fulton, Ryan Shaw and residents Tristan and Frenchy on Saturday before BeatStreet returns with Chris Lattner, Brett Jacobs and more on Sunday evening.
