Re: It's PARTYTIME in Scotland today
Can someone really break it down for me why there are so many parties over her death? I get the jest of it, she was a hated PM, but what are the details of why she was so hated?
It was fun while it lasted...Comment

Re: It's PARTYTIME in Scotland today
obviously there are always many sides to every story and depending on your experiences of it, will be how you tell it.
I do give her major credit for being the first female Prime minster and because of her there are many more women in politics today.
However, she is despised because she put advocated a 'everyone for themselves' policy over community, trod on the poor at every possible opportunity and made the rich richer. She tried to decimate the National Health Service (from which it will probably never recover). Two of the biggest issues were that she put tens of thousands of people out of work in the north of England, Wales and Scotland. Entire generations were out of work due to the fast closure of many mines and the privatization of previous national entities such as British Coal and British gas. Unemployment was at its highest since the depression -and mainly focused on the north of the UK. On top of that she introduced the 'poll tax' an unfair way of national taxation that favored those of wealth. She tried out the scheme in Scotland only -alienating the entire nation and formalizing the view, that there will never again be a conservative presence in Scotland - and ultimately led to devolution. When the tax was introduced in England it resulting in the london riots and it was ultimately replaced due to public opinion.
And then there was section 28 an anti-gay government scheme and her vilification of Liverpool supporters during the Hillsborough tragedy, refused to put sanctions on South African during Apartheid and named Nelson Mandela a terrorist (he was in jail for being black you may recall)... the list in endless.
(thats a mild review)
Divisive is perhaps the fairest summation of her reign!
I thought these front covers showed the range of opinions quite well - be sure to scroll down
