Release Notes:
01. Hot Natured feat. Anabel Englund - Reverse Skydiving (Deetron Remix) [Hot Creations | HOTC032]
Hot Natured’s Reverse Skydiving features Anabel Englund’s amazing voice and an undeniable groove courtesy of Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, Luca C, and Ali Love. The first teaser of the full release comes courtesy of Deetron who adds a subtle piano melody among a rolling bassline. If you’re not familiar with the Hot Creations camp or the supergroup known as Hot Natured, let Deetron introduce you to deep house with this intricate and fascinating remix.
02. Luca Lozano - Sail On feat. Amirali (Paolo Rocco After The Afterhours Remix) [Klasse Recordings | KLS026]
Taken from Luca Lozano's forthcoming debut album: "Life in Black & White". The label boss has definitely crafted a fresh and exciting sound as Luca tailors an album that is part house, part hip hop, part soul and part techno. He neatly intertwines these with ease, style and originality.
Hot on the trail of the ‘Need Nothing’ EP which garnered support from the likes of Maya Jane Coles, Damian Lazarus and Guy Gerber, Luca Lozano returns to his own Klasse Recordings with ‘Sail On’ featuring Amirali, another taster for his forthcoming album ‘Life In Black And White’.
For ‘Sail On’ Lozano enlists the vocal talents of Crosstown Rebels´ brightest starlet Amirali who imparts his haunting falsetto while the dexterous producer weaves a series of soft piano chords, swiftly layered with a swinging drum pattern and sharp bass. Building slowly and steadily, Amirali´s vocal is teased into the mix before it takes centre stage, adding great impetus and depth to the track and reinforcing the murky aesthetic of Lozano´s production.
First up on remix duties we have Session Victim. The German duo turn in a foot stomping, high-tempo remix that makes full use of the piano chords and takes the original into unchartered territories. Their energetic and considered interpretation retains the tapered bass and crisp drum pattern and while Amirali´s subtle vocal rolls underneath, Session Victim add adulating synths and delicate delays that lift the mood for an early morning set.
Next up is Paolo Rocco who should be no stranger to the loyal army of Klasse followers having dropped an EP on the label last July. Paolo´s delicate, ethereal remix is beautifully executed with tiny, fragile drips of subdued sound rolling beneath a deep, drawn out bass that only draws focus to Amirali´s spooky pitched down vocals. This also adds to the ominous and chilling direction that Paolo so effortlessly steers.
Rounding off the package is another Luca Lozano original – a bass jackin´ house affair that’s typical Lozano and must be played loud in order to be fully appreciated. ‘Blanket Groove’ has got a distinct breakbeat feel to it with an emotive synth that underpins a metronomic drum loop. With a deep-set bass comes a series of glitchy, leftfield sonics that fill the spaces in between.
With the ‘Sail On’ EP, Luca Lozano once more demonstrates the ease with which he travels across the spectrum of music, taking pinches of inspiration from House, Techno, Hip Hop, Soul and thus asserting himself as an artist brimming with vision, confidence and ambition.
Released by: Klasse Recordings
Release/catalogue number: KLS026
Release date: May 15, 2013
Run by Luca Lozano, Klasse Recordings is a Berlin based record label that specializes in House and Techno music. As a record label Klasse holds up the classic spoked wheel design of a racing bike as a symbol of strength and unity which contrasts with the disposable doses of instantaneous gratification found in todays electronic music scene.
Klasse has released original and remix material from artists such as Luca Lozano, Mr. Ho, Sacha Robotti, Johanna Knutsson, Jordan Peak, Paolo Rocco, Kris Wadsworth, Huxley, Pol_On, Minilogue, Tim Green and many others. Klasse Recordings releases on digital, vinyl and tape cassette formats.
03. Footprintz - Uncertain Change (Audion Loves You Mix) [Visionquest Records | VQ 027]
The reflective and psychedelic dream world of Footprintz debut LP ‘Escape Yourself’ is fully unleashed on the Visionquest imprint this March and next single ‘Uncertain Change’ is one of the twelve glowing examples of the duos’ esteemed sonic and lyrical wonder. Reworked here by two of dance music’s finest auteurs, Audion aka Matthew Dear and Maceo Plex ride in full effect.
With a distinct coming of age theme, ‘Uncertain Change’ is a perfect slice of dreamy synth-pop. Anchored by a powerful bass-line, uplifting melodies inflected with new wave nostalgia blend into softly spoken vocals heavy with melancholy as the underlying sense of what it feels like to be young and unsure is ever present. Warped electric guitar strums add to a creeping darkness, but this is kept at bay by an overriding warmth and depth of soul that filters through. ‘Uncertain Change’ will transport the listener to an age of innocence.
The ‘Maceo Plex Reconception’ is endowed with the producers signature swing. Tailored for the disco, skipping pendulum beats and a heavier bass beat underpin the in tact phrasing of the original song leading up to a breakdown and powerful bassline drop.
In The ‘Audion Loves You Mix’ Mathew Dear in his Audion guise deconstructs the song and pieces it back together with an entirely transformative minimal tapestry of sounds. An epic reimagining of sparse electronic bleeps and warped vocals build into a majestic framework of fizzing tension and textured soundscapes. Ultimately remnants of the original melody fuse with Audion’s epic groove as the track surges towards an optimistic end.
04. Edu Imbernon & Los Suruba - Fayer (Dirty Channels Remix) [Culprit LA | CP034]
Culprit kicks off its extended summer series of releases and finishes its five-stop European talent scouting tour in Spain. The two new immensely gifted additions to the Culprit production arsenal are Valencia and Madrid-bred (and Ibiza-based) team of Edu Imbernon and Los Suruba.
The trio deliver one of Culprit’s most distinct singles in recent memory, ‘Fayer,’ a composition of almost timeless sound palette, whose analog warmth and upbeat feel make the label’s customary transition between its “indoor” and “outdoor” programmes.
05. Special Case - Nibiru (Seuil Remix) [Turquoise Blue | TQR010]
Turquoise Blue has come a long way since its launch, welcoming the likes of Djebali, MANIK, Laura Jones, Boris Horel and Alex Arnout onto its roster. Here the label welcomes back Special Case following their remix of Scarlett Nina’s ‘The End’ on the imprints preceding record.
Title track ‘Niribu’ opens the release here, a low-slung, tripped-out house number employing insistent drum programming and dark, atmospheric synthesizers as its driving force. The trio continue down their path of tasteful, intelligently crafted productions, instilling subtle production nuances through filters, delays and reverbs in to the cut while a tight blend of gritty electronic and warm organic sounds creates a heady
peak-time cut.
Next up French producer and Real Tone, Supplement Facts and Ultrastretch affiliate Alexis Benard akaSeuil, steps in to remix ‘Niribu’, dubbing out the vibe of the original record to a sub-heavy, ethereal state. Bright pads and string carry the melodic movement of the track while bubbling low-end tones and punchy drums add a hefty weight to the already rock solid groove, as expected the mix oozes warmth and class.
‘Job’s Done’ follows on here, embracing a similar dark aesthetic to the preceding tracks, evolving pad lines and heavily delayed saw-wave bass hits create a rumbling movement, while resonant acidic synths build tension. The latter stages see a dreamy bell-chime like melody introduced further fuelling its psychedelic edge and again resulting in a rather unique record.
To close the release Special Case offer-up ‘September The 1st’, winding down the release in style, with a smooth, after-hours vibe. The guys throw in an amalgamation of warm pads and blooming tones to create a profound background depth, while sturdy off-kilter drums give the cut a hooky feel.

06. Mihai Popoviciu - Curbat (Here EP) [Poker Flat Recordings | PFR 137]
Straight out of Romania, Mihai Popoviciu has established him self as a producer and DJ of high repute in the past few years. His releases on labels such as Highgrade, Fear of Flying and Hudd Traxx have raised the bar pretty high when it comes to his own distinctive take of the tech-house sound du jour, but it’s this latest outing on Poker Flat Recordings where sparks really start to fly.
The four tracks on the Here EP share a similar aesthetic and sound design, yet each is as essential as the other.
'Call Me' rides a dark and low slung groove, eventually unleashing a soulful, neo-prince vocal refrain amid the spacey, atmospheric synths.
Title track 'Here' follows a similar dynamic, but with a more straight up focus – a fat, rolling house bomb for the floor.
'Low' takes things a notch deeper, and a shade darker, showcasing Mihai’s passion for Detroit and the techier end of the spectrum.
'Curbat' rounds off the release, maintaining a course for the funky sound Mihai is fast becoming a leading proponent of.

07. Jordan Lieb - Dreams From The Ghetto [Superfreq | SFQ011]
Mr.C’s Superfreq imprint teams up with the highly talented Jordan Lieb for a three track EP of superb twisted grooves.
The Superfreq label has returned in 2013 after a 7 year gap and it seems, is looking to make up for lost time with some killer music re-launching the imprint. Mr.C’s ‘I’m Gonna Give You Some’ is already picking up support from the likes of Art Department, Dubfire, Danny Howells & Soul Clap and is just a taster for his forthcoming album ‘Smell the Coffee’. Now joining the Superfreq team is Chicago born, New Yorker Jordan Lieb, a producer who has featured on labels such as Poker Flat, My Favorite Robot and Scissor & Thread. Lieb is an Emmy award winning TV writer and produces and engineers for numerous artists but with the launch of his Black Light Smoke moniker in 2010 he very much came into his own.
Lieb’s first single for Superfreq kicks off with title track ‘Dear Suzanne’ a twisted and inventive slice of left field techno that brings together chiming melodies, wailing vocal FX and tight drum programming with a haunting and intense pitch split vocal, quality stuff. The second of the three tracks on offer sees Lieb offer up ‘No Shake’ a pulsing old school techno affair with a sparse and startling arrangement paired with a filtered acidic B-line and a heavily effected Hammond organ line. ‘Dreams From the Ghetto’ completes the package with its super wonky vocal edits and mutated melodies offering a perfect 6AM anthem.
Jordan Lieb’s debut for Superfreq is undoubtedly an accomplished record and is surely the start of a great relationship, enjoy!

08. Chaim feat. Meital De Razon - We Are [Supplement Facts Records | SFR036]
Supplement Facts get set to release a killer package from prolific Israeli producer and long-time collaborator, Chaim. The latest, superlative 'We Are' EP is a three-tiered dancefloor odyssey with the stylistic range to last from dusk until dawn.
A-side 'We Are' feat. Meital Derazone will immediately hook the crowd with a moody bass riff and dark echoing vox, slowly building into a hypnotic synth driven peak time voyage with an epic feel.
Flip over to the B-side and 'Orion Skies' is a more understated affair lifted with floaty atmospherics as disembodied vocals whisper over the analogue groove and fluid pads and creeping chords permeate the spacey arpeggiated synths. Final track 'Social Assassin' has a more unhinged edge with deranged vocal clips, a tough percussive groove, trippy echoing FX and propulsive bass. Ascending organ chords lead to a dramatic bassline drop sure to destroy the dancefloor.
Long-time friend and compatriot to Guy Gerber and the Supplement Facts label, fellow Tel-Aviv export Chaim is another of the country's most prolific electronic artists. Having collaborated with Guy on a number of releases and also becoming part of the prestigious cannon at BPitch Control, this EP for Supplement Facts will be the latest in an over-flowing catalogue of heavyweight club records.
