    featuring

    JOHN DIGWEED
    (UK) [BEDROCK] (Exclusive Extend Set)

    +

    ANTHONY PAPPA
    (AUS/UK) [Darkbeat, Renaissance]

SUNDAY 9th JUNE @ PRINCE OF WALES [Bandroom]

    13HR DAY / NIGHT PARTY

Darkbeat celebrates 10 years of being at the forefront of Melbourne’s underground on Sunday June 9. It’s no surprise Darkbeat has gone on to position itself as Australia’s foremost underground dance music club promoter and tastemaker, having toured and hosted the world’s most leading and sought after acts such as Sasha, Sven Vath, Derrick Carter, Claude VonStoke, Stanton Warriors, Pendulum, J00F, Loco Dice, Seth Troxler, Adam Beyer, & Steve Lawler just to name a few. Darkbeat’s loyal followers know that anything with the Darkbeat brand on it is a seal of quality and approval that they can trust and over the last 10 years they have seen hundreds and thousands of underground music lovers attend their events. Of late, their association with the national festival brands like Stereosonic (Australia’s biggest festival) and Summadayze (Australia’s biggest New Year’s Day festival) has seen their profile skyrocket even further, plus hosting club shows anywhere and everywhere across the country.

We would like to thank every single person who has been apart of the Darkbeat vibe over the last 10 years and we hope you can join us at and celebrate the very special occasion at a venue we have never utilised before – The Prince Of Wales, joining us will also be a DJ we have sought after for many years – Mr John Digweed (UK) [Bedrock]. It feels almost full circle that John Digweed will finally get to play a Darkbeat event and what better way than our 10th Birthday!

Alongside John Digweed, we have one of our Darkbeat’s longest standing favourite Djs joining this huge occasion to help celebrate our turning the big 1-0 in true style. So we are pleased to announce the addition of the Australian legend, Mr Anthony Pappa. After all of the highlights he has given us over our 10 years as Darkbeat we feel it’s the perfect fit that he finally graces his presents for his first appearance at one of our official Darkbeat Birthday Party show.

As per usual we will have more specials surprises coming, so stay tuned and watch this space for a trip memory lane.

For the first surprise we can announce.
After 2 years Darius Bassiray & Rollin Connection (aka Daniel Banko) will be playing back to back warming up for John Digweed once again under the ‘former / original’ Rollin Connection guise bringing it in proper birthday fashion! – (This will be the first time playing back together again in just on 2 years and plan on bringing something very special for this huge occasion)

This is a day / night party which starts at 5pm & we are kicking off the madness from the get go so we advise you arrive early .

    JOHN DIGWEED (UK) [BEDROCK]

Some DJ careers are built on hype. John Digweed’s career is built on substance. One of the planet’s most popular DJs, his sets never fall out of favour with clubbers the world over, as his relentless global gig schedule testifies. From ethereal, swirling cinematic soundscapes to energy-infused bass-bothering tech growlers, a new generation of clubbers are learning what we already know - that there’s nothing quite like being locked into a John Digweed set.

But John Digweed is much more than a DJ. Bedrock – his record label, promotions company and production partnership with Nick Muir – is a mothership of creative ingenuity and integrity that other labels orbit around. His vision for the Bedrock record label has been realized over 12 years, as he continuously seeks out mixes and remixes from the world’s best producers. Techno mainstays like Marco Bailey, Christian Smith and John Selway sit comfortably alongside hot new talent like Guy J in the Bedrock camp.

In a dance scene increasingly inhabited by inflated egos and gimmicks, John’s approach remains all drive, no drama, a heads-down crack-on attitude that has won him the respect of his peers. However, the fact remains that John Digweed has notched up a mighty list of groundbreaking achievements since he first became involved in the embryonic acid house scene as a 15-year-old lad in Hastings. From Top 40 smashes ‘Heaven Scent’ and ‘For What You Dream Of’ (with Nick Muir) to world renowned mix CDs for Renaissance, GU and Northern Exposure, it’s little surprise he was voted No.1 DJ in the World by DJmag readers in 2001.

Ten years on, the excitement John Digweed generates is even more palpable today. With Nick he has scored a Hollywood film (Stark Raving Mad) and Spiderman`s animated series for Sony/MTV. toured with David Bowie and Moby, and transformed Brighton Beach into the UK’s biggest beach party (250,000 people) with Fatboy Slim. His Transitions, Bedrock and Structures albums continue to turn new fans on worldwide, Bedrock’s recent 12th birthday party at London’s O2 Brixton Academy was a road-blocked sell-out and his Transitions radio show is one of the world’s most successful dance music shows, broadcast across 45 countries to a staggering weekly audience of over 14 million.

But the real beauty in John Digweed’s story lies in his unflinching belief in the music he plays. And with new music comes new chapters in an already astonishing career.

    ANTHONY PAPPA (AUS / UK)

In 1994, frustrated at being halfway around the world from where the music he loved was happening, Anthony decided to re-locate to England’s capital. It wasn’t long before his talents were picked up by a core group of the UK’s biggest DJ’s, who together forged a strong squad of players that would shape the sounds that have been constantly evolving and always pushing the boundaries over the last two decades and will continue to do so for many years to come.

Upon more recent years, the end of 2010 improved further on previous years for Anthony by an even busier touring schedule including just over 100 performances in total at various clubs and festivals over the globe. This was also the year Anthony was selected to mix the cover mount CD for DJ Mag’s coveted Top 100 DJ’s edition. The mix has received high praise from all the big hitters and industry professionals alike. Alongside DJing, Production was key to Anthony’s success with high profile releases including his massive collaboration with King Unique called “Vamoosh” released on Bedrock.

2011/12 was a year of change for Anthony, with his move to the world renowned B4Bookings Agency standing alongside fellow DJ’s the likes of Davide Squillace, Marco Carola, Slam & Paco Osuna to name but a few. On top of this, Anthony had been in the studio creating new tracks that would pleasantly surprise his adoring followers whilst simultaneously creating an entirely new fan base and continuing touring throughout south America, Mexico, & Europe.

Anthony was excited when he first heard about this project, which has allowed him to do something a little different from his live shows and bring an extra element to his musical portfolio & with a style which is close to his heart. Having still incorporated all of Anthonys unique, trademark defining “track selection, journey build, & precision mixing skills” coupled with his overall way of making things just pop – This mix is one that will be talked about for many years to come.

Now in 2013, after just having completed this mix cd for Darkbeat / Darkbeat Recordings Anthony's gig diary looking as healthy as ever, including an extended tour of his homeland, Australia as well as dates booked all over the world, combined with big plans for the studio again, 2013 is shaping up to be another big year for Anthony.

This could be the best chance Melbourne ever has for one of Digweeds famous long sets. !! These promoters work with the Dj and allow them to play as long as they like. Pretty brilliant set of locals there as well !!

No brisbane show for digweed. I may have to go to sydney or Melbourne.

          Middle of exam block though...

Daddy will pay for me to go to Sydney.

Brisbane seems to be missing out big time at the moment. I was prepared to go to Brisbane for Guy J , but he isn't playing there I don't like Sydney as much.

If you can get to Melbourne it will be the best night for a change Newer, better promoters

This was a great party. The best since Hernan last year. It has been pretty grim here. Digweed played the best set I have ever seen from him. It was really warm and well structured. Definitely some prog there as well. I really felt he was playing for the crowd last night. Our locals were brilliant. Jamie Stevens , Gavin Keitel and Anthony Pappa. I would put any of these guys up against any of the internationals any day. The sound was gorgeous. !!

Guy J boat party had about 40 people last year, promoters must be out of pocket for most gigs due to an exceptionally small "scene".

Good to hear you enjoyed his set...been liking the warmer house sounds building up to the darker and harder sounds.

Pappa has been killing it lately I have heard.
