But it isn't garage, or what many are calling deep house on here.
But nearly every one of those tracks are listed by the artist/label as 'deep house'.

I find 90% of my stuff in the deep house section on beatport etc. these days.

I could be here all day saying dj names.

Yes there are certain types of music that are coming under the deep house umbrella these days, just really comes down to your own definition of it.

The majority of the artists and labels i follow on Soundcloud are in the "Deep House" bracket but they are all different in their own right.

The beauty of the music i suppose......

Yah, I don't know, I think I may have personally over done it with Desyn mixes during that time period. I haven't felt compelled to revisit any of his mixes. But perhaps I should, starting with his Balance mix

                  But that is my point.

Back in 1990 it was broken down into 2 types of sound.

                  Garage and Hardcore.

The Garage sound is what a lot of you guys are calling Deep House now.

However, as the Raves started to slow down, as the police were killing the scene the sound of garage and hardcore started to combine somewhat, we started to get less breakbeat and rare groove and more of a 4 4 beat combining the sounds from hardcore and the sounds from garage, this was called house.

Listen to early Sasha sets, he would play garage with hardcore with some acid and then back to some dark techno, but was a house DJ.

As the club scene grew we starred to get DJs that would specialise in certain genres, you would have a garage room where they played pretty much nothing but garage (what you're calling deep house), but the main rooms were house. The house sound changed, not only over time but also depending where you were from. In '92 I guess, if you went to a club up north, Hacienda or Shelleys the house sound had more of a garage feel to it, lots of Italian stuff with Pianos and vocals and hands in the air stuff, but go down to London and the sound was a lot more techie, some deep dark beats with acid sounds and techno vocals. But you would also have rooms playing a deeper, funkier, more sassy groove, still quite techie down south but not dark like the main rooms, and definitely not garage, it was deep house and it was very different to garage.

That set from Digweed above to me is Deep House, look at the tracks on beatport, all classed as Deep House.

The problem seems to be that Deep House as a name is now really misused, by pretty much everyone.

The thing is the garage sound changed over time too, the drum and bass crowd combined garage for a more vocal melodic jungle sound, it was garage but played at 140bpm instead of 120bpm and with a breakbeat instead of a 44 beat.

To me, Deep House is simply house, all variations, that have a deeper more sassy groove going on.

Isn't that what Digweed is trying to do these days.. blending several different styles into one during his sets.. I think that it works very well. And he is still considered a house DJ, despite the fact that he seems to play lots of techno as well.

hah same here... the last one of his that I enjoyed was the mix for "jimbo and felix" or something like that, and I haven't played any of his sets ever since. I wasn't sure if his sets can be classified as "deep house" and with all the info gizze is providing ..its getting even harder

^good call on the "for jimbo and felix" mix, that i would like to revisit!

well colored me a little lost ... gizze your posts are educating me and definitely informative reads. I love the vibe of the digweed mix you posted, but to me it sounded like a progressive house mix, but that's how little I know. . I tend to lean toward house mixes that have jazz, soul, funk, breakbeat influences. And I guess sassy .

I'd also recommend Lazy Dog 1 & 2 from Jay Hannan and Ben Watt (from EBTG). These are both great mixes from the early 2000's. And like Gizze is stating above, these are classified as Deep / Garage on the Discogs site too.

                            @Gizze:

listen from 22 minutes to 24 minutes ... Simon Dunmore discusses London currently, etc, regarding House and Soulful house with vocals.

                            thoughts?

I guess I relate more to the younger crowd of listeners, because the soulful vocal sound is what I enjoy personally as well.

i was listening today to this set and all the time during that mix i thought ''oh yeah, that's the typical modern new skool deep house sound..'' So today's deep house is more nu-disco,indie dance type of sound and not so garage..but its all good =)
