01. Craig Bratley - Analogue Dreams (Bonar Bradberry Remix) [Is It Balearic | IIB00027]

Is It Balearic hit their late 20s with another superb release - this time Craig Bratley steps up with 'Analogue Dreams'. Craig has earned quite a reputation from only a handful of releases, including the Weatherall favourite and classic cut 'Birdshell' on Instruments Of Rapture. On 'Analgue Dreams', Craig lays down a gently evolving, acid tinged Balearic techno slow burner that transforms into a piano house cut halfway through - all mood and melody.

First up on the remix we have the ever essential Bonar Bradberry who amps things up and takes a clonking bass riff down the club for a real good time. On the flip Crimea X pare the musical elements right down and build an epic remix from the raw ingredients, employing live percussion and shimmering synths - this one has an organic acid house feel.

Finally Joe's Bakery dial down the tempo and incorporate some deft acoustic guitar and gentle mood swings alongside the musical elements of the original for a proper Balearic soft rock swagger - tabla percussion, strings, wobbling synth washes and a rock solid bassline make this a must for the Balearic faithful.

"With a curiously erratic release history from Robsoul to Instruments of Rapture, the eclecticism of a label like Is It Balearic seems the perfect place for Carig Bratley to set up shop and drop the whimsical flutterings of his track "Analogue Dreams". He was clearly in a floatation tank state of mind when he crafted the luscious tones that form the tune, and it provides a sterling jump off point for the remixers too. Bonar Bradberry takes a chunkier approach, with lashings of electro applied with poise for a thoroughly workable cut, while Crimea X heads into a steadily rising acid house brew in debt to the golden age of Balearic. 02. Chaim - Summer Rains (Where The Wind Blows Compilation) [BPitch Control | BPC263]

In the early nineties the world began taking a shine to a quite curious phenomenon which was still regarded in many places as part of the even more curious genre label IDM. Its protagonists such as Richard James and Autechre created grandiose and bewildering (or bewildered?) cosmoses of sound whose exponential complexity could only be escaped by departing in the opposite direction minimal techno as an escape route to the future! While these two extremes were played off against one another for the next decade and deconstruction was pushed to its limit, now the time finally seems right for something new for a removal of strict genre boundaries, for a joint exploration of form and colour, for a combination of function and emotion.

BPC meets this current transition with an ambitious compilation album bearing the fitting title Where the Wind blows. The name requires little interpretation: seventeen striking and all previously unreleased tracks from as many artists reveal where the wind could be blowing at BPC in the future. On board, alongside numerous BPitch veterans such as Kiki, Thomas Muller, Jahcoozi and label boss Ellen Allien herself, are renowned remixers from the BPC network, including the Polish DJ duo Viadrina and the Irish-Canadian Amirali, a London resident and newcomer to the Crosstown Rebels label. Interested BPC fans got a taste of their superb remixes for artists including We Love last year.

Of course, a fresh wind means completely new input as well. So it comes as no surprise that the BPitch circle has been expanded to include a few more illustrious names: Tomas Barfod, with releases on Get Physical, Kitusé and Gomma, is not only one of the stars of his native Danish club scene, he is also the drummer and producer for the exceptional band WhoMadeWho. Still an inside tip (for now) are Douglas Greed and Mooryc, hailing from the Freude am Tanzen crew, who have combined to form Eating Snow and are serving up modern electro pop featuring first-rate vocals.

There is a compelling performance from another gifted vocalist, Joy Adegoke, who is riding a wave of success with producer Jim Janssens as Joy Wellboy in their home city of Brussels. She adorns Where the Wind Blows with a cool, soulful-electronic, down-tempo gem. The transition from highly structured minimalism to atmospheric, song-oriented alternative electronica is noticeable as a strong thread running through the entire album. It offers Telefon Tel Aviv's dramatic soundscapes just as much room as Dillon's distinctive, almost painfully intense singer-songwriter sketches.

Filled with a broad, liberating anything goes attitude, the artists involved appear to have forgotten all constricting genre boundaries: the label boss delivers a surprise with a very uncharacteristic cerebral cinema soundtrack, almost rocky in its driving rhythm; Chaim combines house and space-disco elements with a wink of the eye; mechanical sound specialist Thomas Muller serves up a piece that could almost be interpreted as tech-house parody; and Hercules And Love Affair singer Area Negrot takes us by surprise by revealing a naive-poppy side that no one would have previously suspected. The high proportion of vocal tracks on Where the Wind blows underlines the commitment to colour and the shift towards a new emotionality.

The musical diversity of the album and the year that BPC boss Ellen Allien spent actually compiling the tracks in no way impede its consistency and conviction. On the contrary: Where the Wind blows simultaneously takes stock of where a successful label stands and points to a vision of the future of electronic music.

03. Marc Poppcke - Breakable (Silent Picture EP) [Crossfrontier Audio | CFA016]

After the 'Inner Conflict EP' on Sasha's label Last Night On Earth, and a couple of remixes on various labels like Parquet Recordings, Proton Music and Steyoyoke, Marc Poppcke is back on his own imprint with the 'Silent Picture EP'. He crowns the 16th Crossfrontier Audio release with four original tracks, showing his love for different styles of electronic club music, ranging from melodic deep house to more progressive and tech house influenced stuff for the peak time hours.

04. C-Jay & Yoram - RadioSchaduw [Baroque Records | Promo]

An early preview of a track courtesy of Hernán, that id not due out until August. Dutch artist Christian C-Jay Jansen has had previous release on the likes of Vapout, and has worked with Mick Parks of Tilt. Here he teas up with Amsterdam's Yoram Zijlmans {Outside The Box | Hope Recordings].

05. Tvardovsky - Colours [unreleased]

Tvardovsky is well known to Resident listeners, whether it be with originals (Brain Code and Under The Mask) or remixes (Coherent's 'Archetypal' and uan Deminciis's 'Rainbows'). Being a regular on Proton's Particles sub-inprint fans will be pleased to hear that May sees the release of Tvardovsky's Hope/Fate EP Tvardovsky.

Santiago Javier Teillagorry, from the city of Rio Cuarto, Córdoba (Argentina) started his career as a Sound Engineer before producing electronic music while doing a degree in musical composition at the National University of Villa María.
Maxi Iborquiza was born in S.C. de Bariloche, Argentine, and has had tracks on Resident 095 and 085.

08. Khen & Sonic Union - Introspection (Cid Inc Remix) [Replug | RPLG029]

The 29th release on Cid Inc's Replug imprint sees a fresh collaboration between two of the scenes most exciting producers. Hen Falah aka Khen is one of the most touted up and coming producers from the talent rich Israeli electronic music scene. Working solo or sometimes in conjunction with Guy Mantzur Khen's productions have appeared on Whose Haus, Movement, Lowbit, Somebody's Story and Bermudos. He's also a regular behinds the decks at one of Israeli most famed venues 'Cat & Dog'. Erik Petterson aka Sonic Union has been a major force in electronic music for many years; as one half of the famed duo Bastards of Funk & Sonic Union Erik productions have been played by Carl Cox, Hernan Cattaneo and Sasha. Khen and Sonic Union's first collaboration together is entitled 'Introspection' and it comes with remixes from Cid Inc. and Tommi Oskari.

09. Dave Angel - Harlequin [Bedrock Digital | Beddigi-34]

Dave Angel - regarded by many as the Godfather of the UK's Techno scene - returns to Bedrock with a stunning new single. "Harlequin" displays his supremely groovy and downright funky side, having evolved and matured stylistically over the years, since his early heart-stopping techno outings more than 3 decades ago now. This is Dave Angel's first outing on Bedrock since 2011, when his remix of Marco Bailey's "Rubber Band" (BEDMBDIGI01) was hailed as a pure master-class in techno genius.

The son of a jazz musician, Dave Angel's first musical instrument (appropriately) was a drum at age of eight, so it's no surprise that he developed an ear for a good groove. Since entering the consciousness of the techno community in 1990, he has pretty much remained there ever since. Although he's London born and bred, he has been making records like he's from Detroit with a distinctive twist of funk and jazz for years. Dave Angel is one of the scene's true characters, giving off an aura of positivity like no other, a kind of warmth that you cannot fail to feel through his exceptional, uplifting music.
