01. Chymera – Capica Burning (Lake People Remix) (Connaisseur Iconography EP Part 1) [Connaisseur Recordings | cns059-6]
Connaisseur Recordings is an Offenbach-based indie-label operating since 2005. The label is run by Alex & Hilary Flitsch (label management & A&R / Offenbach office), Ralph Boege (business affairs / Hamburg office) and Martin Henkel (capital representative / Berlin office).
Connaisseur Iconography is a new series of four parts. Each part features a Connaisseur classic with two high quality remixes and a quarter of the artwork, illustrated by Julia Humpfer, an eminently respectable german illustrator. Inspired by the idea of the "Super Discount" series from Etienne de Crecy in the 90s, all four parts together form the full artwork.
For part 1 we chose the Chymera classic "Caprica Burning", which was released on our sub-label Supérieur in summer 2008. This alluring and touching Detroit-influenced pearl has developed to an early morning and open-air guarantor for many DJs. As it is a staple for Lauer, who has been playing this track for years during his residency at the legendary Robert Johnson, it was more than obvious to ask him if he is up for a remix. However, as this track definitely isn't an easy one to remix, he teamed up with one of Germany's most respected authorities in electronic music - Gerd Janson - to do this remix under their common project Tuff City Kids. Good choice, as the remix has ended up as a fantastic old-schoolish Disco-infected house-bomb which will definitely destroy several dance-floors this summer.
On the flip, one of Connaisseur newest signings - Lake People - has given "Caprica Burning" the second remix treatment, creating a not less fantastic interpretation. Starting more reduced, relaxed and only teasing the melodies, the title surprisingly dissolves into the original theme with heavy energy after the break. Lake People currently closes his live set with this remix, receiving great reactions from the crowd.
All in all, a full winner package. As the second part you can look forward to amazing remixes for Thor's "Yellow Sky Over Reykjavik".

02. Dusky - Vanishing Point (Deeper Mix) [Naked Naked | NKD005]
New EP from Dusky entitled "Vanishing Point" incl. Truth Capital T and a deeper mix of Vanishing Point. Coming 03/06/13 on Breach's Naked Naked label.
Not content with getting everyone ‘Jacked‘ Breach has got his Naked Naked imprint stepping up to plate with what looks to be another nailed on homer with the Dusky boys delivering the ‘Vanishing Point EP’. As you would expect this is crisp main room house, resplendent with rich vocals, soaring keys and groove a plenty, no curve balls here this is Dusky at their housey best. Perhaps not as strong as their Nobody Else or Calling Me EP’s, but that would be a big ask and not something we should get overly hung up on, if you enjoy your house smooth and clean then look no further.
London based producers Nick Harriman and Alfie Granger-Howell are Dusky, a name that has become instantly synonymous with UK house and techno. Original been getting banged for a while, this is the deeper mix from the EP. Naked Naked label boss, Breach, calls upon 2012's breakthrough house and techno talent, Dusky, for the latest EP offering from the imprint. Focused on championing strictly UK sounds, it was only a matter of time before Naked Naked featured the London duo, whose blend of both classic and new school approaches to house (with an unremitting emphasis on bass) epitomizes what's relevant and unique in British output right now. Dusky's latest release, 'Nobody Else' on Aus Music, saw the pair storm to the top of the Beatport deep house chart, with no sign of stepping down any time soon.
The double sided EP opens with title track 'Vanishing Point', a kick driven, subtle-yet-vigorous bass line laden house beat that opens up into a young love-yearning work out thanks to Dusky's characteristically masterful vocal sample work.
Without detracting from the soft chord pads and static synth work, the pitched down vocal yearns with streetwise sensuality, suggesting it'll soon be attaining the same dance floor filling status that 'Flo Jam' enjoyed one year previous. B-side 'Truth Small t' showcases Dusky's techier (big T) side, as drums punch.p house.
03. WD2N - Shake Into The Dust (Drive All Night EP) [Audio Tonic Records | AT025]
Dubai's leading electronic music imprint, Audio Tonic Records, returns with another stellar house release here, in the shape of WD2N's 'Drive All Night', comprising two original workouts from the Nurvous Records artists. 'Drive All Night' takes on a dropped-tempo soul laden form with retro synths and gritty drums, while 'Shake Into The Dust' embraces a darker aesthetic.

A new Solomun. With Mladen being the headmaster of the star-team that is called Diynamic, it is only logical that every move this man makes is looked at with extra care. And so having to review his new ”Yes, no, maybe” EP, the 65th release on the label, was going to be a challenge. Because a logical consequence of Diynamic’s becoming so big as a platform would be that music released there would be increasingly commercial and perhaps even cheap. Furthermore, looking at the course this Hamburg-based label has set out, it seemed to me that this release would have indie/disco-house written all over it. Both features don’t particularly appeal to me, so I was really curious what this Bosnian-born German would come up with.
So let’s jump right to it. Yes, no, maybe (a title I still don’t really understand having listened carefully to the lyrics) doesn’t set out as a disco or indie-house track. Instead, it harnesses deep prolonging drums and a punching bass-synthesizer. The dark, ominous tone really appeals to me as well as does the energy this track portrays. ”Yes, no, maybe” has a lot of punch which is in a way not a surprise if you listen to older tracks Solomun has made. But given the fact that his label as an organization currently seems to be a lot more into pop-like deephouse, it seems like an interesting choice. Maybe staying true to the typical Diynamic sound was the reason for the vocal – which in my eyes is kind-of a bummer. Catchy lines such as ‘Summer just began and I don’t want it to end’ don’t really get the fire started in my point of view.
Luckily everyone gets to pick whatever he likes these days, and therefore it is the dub version that I like. In fact, I like it a lot. Without the vocal, the rawness of the track really gets it’s way and what emerges is is a killer track that houses a lot of energy, mystery and best of all: keeps you going. Parts of it are in fact so raw that I sometimes wondered if it was still deep house I was listening to. But I’ll leave the genre discussion to those that are far better at it. What is hardly deniable, is that there is a really steady groove in ”Yes, no, maybe”, making it the perfect track for retaining the energy on the dancefloor whilst building up to something epic.
It’s strange, but having listened to the only remix on the EP (which is done by Solomun himself) I noticed that in this version the vocals don’t strike me as annoying as I found them in the original. It seems beter supported by the underlying music creating a more harmonious combination. If the vocal is to your liking, pick that remix I’d say!
Summarising my opinion about ”Yes, no, maybe”, I am pleasantly surprised by the general tone, which is in my eyes a lot harder, darker and heavier than some of Diynamic’s recent releases. It shows that its frontman is willing to go his own way and create whatever he thinks is cool. If he’s going to portrait the same amount of creativity at the Diynamic festival this saturday, I think the audience over there will be getting a lot of bang for their buck!
05. Lowb - Inward Outburst (Ripperton Remix) [Distiller Records | Promo]

Lowb (a.k.a. Andy Barlow, one-half of UK pair Lamb) is prepping his first outing as a solo producer, with his debut album Leap and the Net Will Appear set for release via Distiller on June 3. A week prior however, Lowb will be releasing an EP based around the forthcoming album's lead single "Inward Outburst."

06. David Durango - Lethal Visions (1961 EP) [Darkroom Dubs | DRD059D]
What better way to continue the Darkroom Dubs 10th Anniversary celebrations than to bring us an exciting label debut. Having recently remixed his beautiful 'Pole Dance' single for Perspectiv, label bosses Silicone Soul now welcome David Durango to the DRD family. Renowned for his elegant and emotive productions, the Swiss DJ/Producer first made his mark with early releases for the likes of Poker Flat and Dessous. Now, David's records soundtrack special dancefloor moments and with his penchant for the deeper shades of house make him a perfect fit for the Scottish label.
'1961' features a trio of tracks that are lead by the pulsing synths and marching rhythm of the title track. True Face sees Davidmatching broken beats and percussion with ethereal sounds and fx before Lethal Visions closes the ep with its glitchy beats, cascading keys and epic waves of synth. As we said, a perfect fit.
07. Michel De Hey & Rauwkost - Just A Matter Of Time [Hey! Records | HEY019]
Early support from Luke Solomon, Slam, Hernan Cattaneo, Timo Maas & more.
After their successful collab Bluetrain, played by a.o. Sven Väth & Mathias Kaden, it’s time for their first release in 2013. The track "Just a matter of time" has a history. Michel already played the rough version on Timewarp and it was one of the most sought after tracks of his set. After finetuning the track, a new creative film collective in Holland called Irfan heard the track and were so impressed, they wanted to make a video for it. The result is not even a video, but more a short film about a man who has just a little time left on this planet.
Furthermore on the release you can find a great remix by HEY!'s new signing Don Ruijgrok. His remix puts an even bigger sound to the track and promises a lot for his upcoming release on HEY! To top things of there is "Full of snuif" which is more in the style of "Gimme some", one of the best selling tracks on HEY! in 2012. Enjoy and do not forget to watch the video!
