02. Nina Simone - Here Comes The Sun (François K Remix) (Remixed & Reimagined EP) [Legacy | B91907]
The music, image, strength, and style of Nina Simone, "The High Priestess of Soul," have as strong of an impact today as they ever had. Features new remixes by the most reputable and talented remixers in the game, including Tony Humphries, Francois K, DJ Logic, Mocean Worker, and more. Also includes the Madison Park vs. Lenny B remix of Look Of Love, as featured on the Sex And The City motion picture soundtrack!
"The project succeeds when the DJ’s elicit new meanings from the songs. Francois K triumphantly re-contextualizes George Harrison’s “Here Comes the Sun”, the title track from Simone’s 1971 album. The original version bordered on drippy hokum, but out of this remix emerges an anthem. Francois K drenches Simone’s voice in beats that pulsate like tranquil, glowing rays of amber while the High Priestess quietly intones “It’s alright now / You can come on out now”. Chris Coco’s remix of “To Love Somebody” could easily follow “Here Comes the Sun” in a DJ’s set. Whereas the atmosphere Francois K creates is womb-like, “To Love Somebody” emerges with whirling mirror-balls and dry ice."
03. Sugerdaddy - How Long (Tensnake Late Night Dub) [LateNightTales | ALN1228]
Tom Groove Armada Findlay and Tim Hutton form Sugardaddy, responsible for the tasty cover of the notorious classic How Long from Ace. Remixes by Tensnake.
"New banger from Tensnake coming through! What can we say, the guy never fails to blow our minds. Probably my favorite producer at the moment, Tensnake effortlessly releases tune after tune that I can’t help but put on repeat mode for days. His latest dub remix of Sugardaddy’s track “How Long” is shining example of this ability. Simple yet so effective, I can easily see a DJ opening with this track in one of their sets to get the crowd’s undivided attention; sending them a message that you’ll be grooving your face off for the next hour or so!" [Upside Sounds]
04. Oxia - Harmonie [InFiné Music | iF2039]
300 copies for the world! Almost eight years after the release of “24 Heures” (released by Goodlife), Oxia, a pioneer of the French electronic scene, is back in 2012 at last with a new LP. Perfectionist par excellence, Olivier Raymond is well known for his rare but highly appreciated productions. His EPS, as well as his remixes, released at the end of the noughties on Kompakt, Tsuba or 8bit have made him one of the key producers of the Beatport generation, reaching its climax with the international commercial success of “Domino” in 2006 or “Whole Life” in 2010. For his new album, Oxia decided to put aside the trendy electronic patterns and to move back to more classic but no less enjoyable House Music. With this said, the album is not shy of a deep and melodic sound that ventures to the dancefloor with a stamp of the Oxia groove. Released on vinyl only in March 2012, this EP offers two delightful foretastes for his forthcoming album. InFiné could not dream of any better track to celebrate this new addition to the label´s roster than with “Harmonie”. Oxia never sounded so classy and so emotional – two major features of the label´s trademark. On the flipside, “Flying over Time” is an obvious wink to Chicago`s heydays. Deep in its purest form!
[Ibiza Voice]
Say what you will about French producer Oxia, but his output's never boring. Instead, it's regularly startling, just a bit mischievous and always laden with attitude - qualities it transpires, that again come to the fore on his 'Harmonie' EP. Released on Paris' most consistent InFine imprint, this two-track-taster from the producer's forthcoming Tides of Mind makes for an assured listen, and based on the results here, Oxia's first full length in eight years should make for a mighty spectacle indeed.
The title track is characterised by its many blissful hues, with melodramatic keys acting as its particularly alluring quality. In keeping with its title, a series of harmonious loops and melodies interject too, and its gentle, meandering beats thus make for the perfect foil. With the blossoming signs of spring finally arriving, 'Harmonie' metaphorically nudges the listener towards warmer planes too and thus acts as the perfect accompaniment with which to sign off winter's perils. As such, it could well make an impression at this year's WMC yet, and perhaps coincidentally, is certainly released just in time.
'Flying Over Time' is more traditionally Oxia; in that it's built around a deep synth and a range of clever drum loops. A tired cliché it may be, but this one really is basking in vintage goodness, as its effervescent piano keys and uncompromising melody mark it out as contemporary yet classic. Oxia's latest might be less restrained than much of his previous discography (particularly that on 8bit and Kompakt), but although he slightly varies his traditional sound here, the end result is no less emphatic.
05. Chaim feat. Meital De Razon - We Are [Supplement Facts Records | SFR036]
Supplement Facts get set to release a killer package from prolific Israeli producer and long-time collaborator, Chaim. The latest, superlative 'We Are' EP is a three-tiered dancefloor odyssey with the stylistic range to last from dusk until dawn.
A-side 'We Are' feat. Meital Derazone will immediately hook the crowd with a moody bass riff and dark echoing vox, slowly building into a hypnotic synth driven peak time voyage with an epic feel.
Flip over to the B-side and 'Orion Skies' is a more understated affair lifted with floaty atmospherics as disembodied vocals whisper over the analogue groove and fluid pads and creeping chords permeate the spacey arpeggiated synths. Final track 'Social Assassin' has a more unhinged edge with deranged vocal clips, a tough percussive groove, trippy echoing FX and propulsive bass. Ascending organ chords lead to a dramatic bassline drop sure to destroy the dancefloor.
Long-time friend and compatriot to Guy Gerber and the Supplement Facts label, fellow Tel-Aviv export Chaim is another of the country's most prolific electronic artists. Having collaborated with Guy on a number of releases and also becoming part of the prestigious cannon at BPitch Control, this EP for Supplement Facts will be the latest in an over-flowing catalogue of heavyweight club records.
06. Nick Curly - Wake Me Up (Mr Fingers Ambient Deep Mix) [Defected | NCBTL 02]
Hot off the back of the success of the recent Dennis Ferrer remix of ‘Underground’ Nick Curly picks two further ‘Between the Lines’ album tracks for remix treatment. This time calling upon Osunlade and Larry Heard to give each track their own unique twist. Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers and Osunlade both deliver deep heads down versions perfectly complimenting the originals.
'Wake Me Up' is the third release from Nick Curly'''s sublime 'Between the Lines' album and it receives expert remixing treatment from one of house music's authentic legends, Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers.
The original cut exemplifies why Nick Curly is now highly regarded for being so much more than the pioneer of the so called 'Manheim Sound'. The soothing and harmonising vocals that glide delicately over subtle and organic percussion, coupled with mesmerising synth chords and the haunting chiming of bells, are evocative of a yearning for a spiritual reawakening. Discarding computerised sounds in favour of live instrumentation and vocals in order to capture the genuine emotion of its message, it conveys not only his sophisticated and diverse production skills, but also offers an alternative and intimate insight into Curly's psyche.
The Fingers Ambient Deep Mix perfectly complements the original. Larry Heard does little to tamper with Curly's exquisite arrangement yet achieves in delivering a unique up tempo twist by weaving a subtly driving bass line and layered drums into the fabric of the original cut. Unsurprisingly, it's an impeccable and impressively deep reworking from one of house music's finest.
07. Till von Sein feat. Fritz Kalkbrenner & Thalstroem - Blueprint (Kollektiv Turmstrasse Remix) (Reworks 1) [Suol | SUOL 036]
2011 has been a good year for Suol and of course we won't hold back in 2012. The second single "Reworks 1" of Till von Seins Album "#LTD" is first in Feb with amazing remixes by Kollektiv Turmstrasse, SLG and Erdbeerschnitzel.
The release starts with "Blueprint" featuring Fritz Kalkbrenner & Thalstroem. The track already got a lot of attention as part of the album and when we asked the remixers which track they wanna rework, 2 out of 3 decided on working with Fritz's vocals. The original is smooth and groovy ... Till in best form!
Kollektiv Turmstrasse are up next with their interpretation of Blueprint. We are happy to have the guys on board again after a while of absence. Their deliver a brilliant piece ... what we expected. A deep vibe but still driving ... great use of the vocals. The open air season awaits.
Till's friend SLG from Polands finest Pets label also picked Blueprint for his remix and gives us a hint of the polish winter. Industrial, dark pitched vocals, amazing energy and a hint of old school techno gives this one a different direction. Great!
Erdbeerschnitzel is last but not least with his remix for "Tilly's 61 Rhodes Jam". The Suol crew has been banging his track "To An End" up and down the clubs so we wanted him on board for this. Tim didn't let us down. A 99 bpm groover, nothing really where it belongs but everything just right. Warmup at its best!

08. Finnebassen feat. Gundelach - You Will Never Sleep [Supernature | SPN027]
Finnebassen has already had a phenomenal year. With "Touching Me" he has conquered the charts in many countries and captivated the audiences with his blend of deep house and funky vocals.
"Footsteps" is an altogether different beast. Melancholic at its core, it points straight at your heart rather than your feet. This track wasn't planned for a release but the boys were so enamoured with it, they couldn't let it let go. With a jazzy overtone and slow ravishing drums, this track is sure to leave a footprint in your heart. The radio edit is set to rock stations across the globe.
Adriatique (Diynamic) brings the track to dance floor heights with their smart interpretation of "Footsteps". You are immediately immersed into the track by the strong wavelike kicks. This remix will cause paralysis of the mind so use extreme caution while operation heavy machinery alcohol may intensify this effect. "You Will Never Sleep" shows Finn's trademark knack for strong vocals and catchy melodies once again! To love this track appropriately we suggest growing another heart to facilitate all the love your body is about to be exposed to.
A strong remix of "You Will Never Sleep" is backed up by the superlative Jay Shepeard (Retrofit). Surely this is the reason we are loosing sleep; bouncy cascading melodies make you hover over reality. Another unexpected turn for Supernature! Prepare to be water-boarded by epic beats because this four tracker just won't quit.
Don't miss the video of Finnebassen feat. Gundelach by upcoming film director Age Salejoe, its a show stopper!
09. Slam - Eterna (Sebo K Remix) (Slam Remixed Pt 3) [Soma | SOMA323]
For 20 years, seminal producers, DJs and label owners, Slam, have brought a progressive and independent streak to the ever-developing techno and house scene, both in their own music and by representing other acts through their Soma records label. From beginnings as underground trailblazers, both Slam and Soma have employed the innovation and attention to detail, which, has enabled them to succeed in the state of flux persistent in the scene and helped maintain a consistently high standard of output. To celebrate this 20 year collaboration, Soma are releasing a selection of classic tracks from their extensive back catalogue, newly remixed by some of the most globally renowned and regarded producers in the house and techno scenes.
The origins of this twenty year progression are brought to the fore in Soma’s latest single release which contains three expansive and varied remixes of Slam’s classic track, Eterna - the first ever release on the Soma label and year zero for the aforementioned collaboration. Eterna’s influence in 1991 was born through its merging of disparate styles, underpinned by a balanced mix of driving bassline and euphoric melody.
Producer and label owner Radio Slave shares some of this kind of influence in the modern era fuelled by his own output and that of his label ReKids. Following an earlier remix of Slam’s Azure in 2007 the London based producer has again forged his imprint on Eterna with this latest remix. There is a darker, heavier feel to the remix with the rounded bass stomping between drops heavily and the manipulation of samples from the original, which are now more strung out and imposing than euphoric, adding a sense of controlled aggression.
Having previously remixed Radio Slave’s Bell clap dance, veteran German producer and DJ, Sebo K, turns his attention to Eterna to produce his first remix for Soma. Sebo K’s sound manifests itself clearly in the remix as the track is lifted with dynamic, shifting rhythmic patterns and a loping bassline. A focus on liquid synths smoothes and brightens the track to provide a very different interpretation and also creates a powerful and deep dancefloor remix. mastered by Conor Dalton.

10. Tom Budden & Forrest. - Lady Is Trouble (X-Press2 Remix) [Gruuv | GRU021]
Legendary British duo Rocky & Diesel a.k.a. X-Press 2 remixes the latest release from also British producer Tom Budden featuring Forrest.'s catchy vocals. British got troubled !
Audiojack’s Gruuv imprint kicks off 2013 will a stellar five track EP from Tom Budden & Forrest, featuring reworks from Coat Of Arms, OOFT! and X-Press 2.
Tom Budden has been heavily involved in the industry for several years now, working with the likes of Time Has Changed and Suara and launched his own label, Alive in 2008, which has welcomed rising artists in the shape of KRL, Rebel, Bubba & T-Bone and Chris James onto its roster. Here Tom joins the Gruuv label with more refreshing house cuts, following the footsteps of Huxley, Luna City Express and Catz ‘N Dogz.
The release opens with the original mix of ‘Lady Is Trouble’, a low-slung house cut infused with hooky vocal lines, stuttering low-end tones and remnants of retro, disco-house. Budden & Forrest keep the groove simple, employing warm hi-strings and shuffling drums while the emotive vocal lines brilliantly carry the musicality of the track.
Stepping up to the plate next is Coat Of Arms aka Chris James (Formerly Chris James & Eats Everything), Coat Of Arms were propelled into the limelight with original works and remixes for Futureboogie, Pets, Culprit and Off. Here Chris lives up to the monikers highly praised reputation with some heady, bass driven melodic house, implanting a signature bumping, tom-driven bass line on the original number and tightly blending an amalgamation of raw stabs, fluttering pads and modulated vocals to create another unique interpretation.
House aficionado’s X-Press 2 aka Rocky & Diesel rework ‘Lady Is Trouble’ next, as expected from the educated pair the mix is straight up house music, fusing delayed Rhodes licks, blocky bass tones and set-back swung drums as its driving force. Simplicity is key here with the tracks groove-driven vibe laying the foundations while the sensual vocals brilliant meander around them.
Up next is Tom Budden’s solo venture on the release, ‘Falling’, veering things into darker territories with eerie bass tones, heavily delayed claps and low-pitched vocals. Budden steadily evolves the cut to a peak where he plays on variations of the melodic elements, creating an evolving dynamic.
Closing the release is Delusions Of Grandeur and Instruments Of Rapture artist OOFT!, with a stellar contemporary disco rework of ‘Falling’, stamping his signature pitched-down house vibe on the original with crunchy drums, a dubbed out stab line and some old school resonant synth action.
