    01. Felix Da Housecat - I Just Want To Be A Lesbian feat. Romina Cohn (Eagles & Butterflies Remix) [No Shame/Rude Photo | NSRP9]

Continuing his resurgent comeback, Felix Da Housecat returns to warm up your summer with another bizarre musical tale from the seedy underbelly of clubworld. As is frequently the case with his quirky concoctions, this curiously named thumper has got a bit of a story behind it.

Our hero met singer Romina Cohn in a club late one night, after having heard her track 'I Just Want To Be The Residents'. As it turned out, Felix misheard the song’s refrain, and told the singer “I loved ‘I Just Want To Be A Lesbian!’”. She laughed and told him that he’d sadly misunderstood the lyrics somewhat - but in typical Felix carpe diem fashion, he suggested they record a tune together with the lyrics as he’d heard them. Et voilà: this dark and dirty banger was born.

It’s a slow-burning journey, all throbbing monotone bass, and vintage tribal percussion ticking and chugging away as Romina’s heady vocals seduce your ears into submission. Big snare rolls up the ante to boiling point before the track implodes in on itself and melts back down to nothing more than a kick drum and a bassline. Felix's 'Thee Loverz Raw Cut' Remix fires up the techno intensity and provides an intense big room version, while his Aphrohead remix goes for bouncy tech house with a menacing twist.

More stellar remixes come from Riton (chugging electro filth and trap-style bass heaviness respectively), hot new talent Cloud (‘90s house vibes with a touch of deepness), Hot Creations & Defected signing Human Life (big dancefloor gear with serious sub bass) and Bedrock’s Eagles & Butterflies (hypnotic and moody tribal tech).

With a weekly residency at Space Ibiza’s new night and this huge package coming in two parts (May 27th and June 10th), Felix will be omnipresent over the next few months. We’ll all want to be lesbians this summer. Part 1. Released May 27th - Part 2. June 10th

    02. Just Be - Don’t Make Me Wait For You feat. Jesse Monroe (Magic Mix) [Crosstown Rebels | CRM112]

Just Be has been riding a wave of success in the past year and further cements this new incarnation with next installment for the mighty Crosstown Rebels. The massive ‘Don’t Make Me Wait For You’, featuring Jesse Monroe is a wonky slice of pent up tension and swelling moods, reminiscent of proto garage house classics with a touch of modern slinkiness. As the diva vocal narrative builds with a dirty bassline groove, hypnotic echoes of “Don’t Make Me Wait For You” propel the track higher to truly captivate the dancefloor. The more tangled ‘5am remix’ comes courtesy of Rebel wunderkind Subb-an.

Launching his career as Matthew B in the midst of the UK acid house explosion, Just Be’s identity and sound has undertaken many a metamorphosis, from Bushwacka!, The End Soundsystem, to Layo and Bushwacka! and now embarking on the ambitious solo project JUST BE.

An exciting 2012 saw releases for Just Be on Get Physical, Maison D’etre, Plus 8, and Intec Digital plus gigs at some of the best clubs and festivals on the circuit. In total Just Be’s output under various guises has been phenomenal with six artist albums and a seventh due this year. The super producer has also delivered over 120 remixes, and 160 tracks for labels such as XL Recordings, End Recordings and his own labels Olmeto, Plank and Oblong. Just Be is a true dance music icon.

Subb-an has recently been on tour with the Rebels celebrating 10 years of the historic label. With an album forthcomngg on Crosstown and huge releases on labels such as Visionquest, Spectral Sound and his own One Records. His hectic touring schedule is testament to the steep rise of this underground star and seminal gigs are lined up this year at the likes of Panorama Bar and DC10.

    [UndergroundSource Review]

Just Be is due to release his Don’t Make Me Wait For You featuring Jesse Manroe on Crosstown Rebels this June.

Just Be has had an impressive past year, releasing numerous tracks on Crosstown Rebels and Get Physical Music. Ever since playing under the stars at Amnesia, Ibiza in 1989, the artist has gone by many different names over his reigning DJ career including Bushwacka!, The End Soundsystem, Layo and Bushwacka! and now embarks on his Just Be solo project. His forthcoming Don’t Make Me Wait For You release, features stunning vocals from Jesse Monroe and is finished off with an impressive Subb-an 5am Remix.

The Magic Mix of Don’t Make Me Wait For You opens up the release and begins with seductive vocals from Jesse Monroe that echo throughout the tracks tangled slinkiness. A naughty bassline perfectly accompanies the ever rising vocal that eventually builds into a captivating display of diva vocals. Just Be shows his nostalgia for garage house classics with an odd, yet perfectly hypnotic melody.

For those that enjoy beat over vocal, Just Be provides a Magic Dub version of Don’t Make Me Wait For You and makes you appreciate how great the raw sound is.

Pushing his 5am sound, Subb-an provides us with his remix of the original. Playing on the originals tangled personality, Subb-an churns the sound by immersing it in underground elements. Playing on the seductive vocals, he almost adds an element of snake-like whispers to it.

For me, this release is one of the best Crosstown Rebels has released for some time. Just Be proves he has what it takes to be a lone wolf and Subb-an continues to implement 5am sound. If your interested in his latest sound, check out his 5am remix of Yamen & EDA’s - All Out track on One Records.

    03. Nikola Baytala & Myles Egner - Zero $ (Catz'n Dogz Remix) [Pets Recordings | PETS032]

All any DJ touching down in San Francisco needs is Nikola Baytala's number on speed dial. Whether you're a frequent visitor or a virgin to the West Coast city, it's imperative to call on him for an in-the-know tour of the City's finest spots.

Apart from underground SF expeditions, Baytala's legacy comprises some of the most kinetic and dynamic club tracks ever released, an eclectic record collection so big it requires its own postcode and a vintage car and bike collection nicely referenced in the artwork for his first release on Pets Recordings.

The ‘Nikola Baytala’ EP sees Baytala explore his far reaching influences with the help of Myles Egner (with label bosses, Catz ‘N Dogz, and fellow SanFranciscans, Pillow Talk, on remix duties.)

Opening track, ‘Zero $’ carves out a chugging 4x4 beat that soon becomes overrun with dark and dischordant synth tones and a stripped back bass line that buzzes with reverb. This is house at its most ominous.
Catz ‘N Dogz drag the track back into the light for the remix, filling gaps with skippy and spirited drum lines, replacing moodiness with movement.

    Released by: Pets Recordings
    Release/catalogue number: PETS032

    04. Nils Hess - White Surface (Siblings Remix) [Martine Records | MR07]

Martine Records is a London new Label underground deep house and tech house music established by "Siblings" aka. La Gosse and Niko.T in 2012.

Run by brother and sister, Martine Records is devoted to the production and release of it's very own signature deep and tech-house music - inspired by everything that's exciting about London's underground movement!

White surface ( Original ) - Nils Hess // With three decades of dance music heritage to his credit, and a passion for music that is as infectious as his grin, it comes as no surprise that DJ and Producer Nils Hess knows a thing or two about getting the party started. Nils Hess label owner of Eukatech Records which started in 1996 and become Independent Record Label of the year in 2001 at the Muzik Magazine awards and is also a monthly resident of Supernova, the monthly club /promotion night at the Egg London King Cross.

It is great to see Nils Hess making music again this time for Martine Record’s this track seems to have all the finest ingredients to get a dance floor moving. With a hook that entices you into the musical journey and the acid line which has a grin bigger then an Acid smiley, and with the vocal so lush, focusing on a white Surface and people making Love, what more can you ask for. Enjoy..

White surface (Siblings remix) - Nils Hess // Yet another awesome remix from the Siblings team, “White Surface” takes you to an epic musical odyssey throughout fat bass line, captivating samples and technical sound effects. Definitely another killing tune made with the Siblings unique avant-garde style.

That one is to drop when the dance floor is reaching his high temperature peak! Boom! Don't be shy ....and give us some feedbacks .. Feels good after a finished job ... Out soon....

    05. Robert Babicz - Sonntag (Rodriguez Jr. Remix) [Systematic Recordings | SYST00956]

Robert Babicz is an artists that come to mind when you think of groovy intelligent dance music. Always on the cutting edge, his newest release is another example of the talent this man possesses. Deep, enigmatic, atmospheric, this release is a true beauty. Also featuring stunning remixes from Rodriguez Jr., KINK, and Pezzner, ‘Sonntag’ is one for the conscious minded individual who wants to really take their listeners on a journey. Another stellar track, ‘Red Lips’ is smooth and elegant with soft vocals and a lush bass line. A gorgeous EP from beginning to end, this is one we can’t put down.

Out Now! Taken from the upcoming Robert Babicz Album "The Owl & The Butterfly" coming 21. June 2013

    06. Kassey Voorn - A Stride In The Dark (Petar Dundov Remix) [Afterglow Deep | AGRDEEP037]

The talented Kassey Voorn has a huge fan base ranging from Sven Vath to Sasha to Markus Schulz proving his musical diversity and depth of knowledge of the scene. Here he supplies two mixes of A Stride In The Dark on Berlin Based Afterglow Deep. Both of his mixes flow with melodies of haunting evocative flavours that and warm to yet with a melancholic nod. Remix honours go to Petar Dundov who utilises the warmth, adding further layers and taking us more hypnotic, locking us in to a driving journey that oozes quality from the off. A brilliant package with a wealth of goods to chose from.

    [Release Official Review]

Afterglow Deep’s latest offering sees one of Athens’s finest producers, Kassey Voorn, step up to the plate. Voorn delivers two versions of ‘A Stride in the Dark’, while Music Man’s Petar Dundov turns in the remix.

Voorn’s Surface mix has a big, compelling sounding record, which is going to sound really great played in the right setting. This is peak time fare, with huge chord changes, bold melodies and swinging percussion really pushing proceedings along, and a really effective breakdown nicely setting up an energetic second half.

The Deep version of ‘A Stride in the Dark’ presents the same themes as the Surface mix, but over a rather more subtle melodic techno backdrop. There’s a nice warm, buzzing quality to this version.

Petar Dundov has been responsible for some of the most distinctive and memorable remixes of the last few years – just think of his takes on Alan Fitzpatrick’s ‘Reflections’ or Gregor Tresher’s ‘The Life Wire’. He’s created his own distinctive sound, for sure. His remix here features all the usual ingredients; a bubbling bass-line is offset against hypnotic little melodic motifs for 8 minutes, while delicate pads add a bit of emotional impact.

For a dancefloor picker-upper, go straight for Voorn’s own Surface mix. For deeper moments, Petar Dundov’s formula still works well enough.

    07. Jonni Darko - Close (minMAX Compilation) [Minus | MINUSminMAX1]

“Bridging the gap between the old & the NEW, the minimal & the MAXIMAL, minMAX represents a widening of scope as we explore the area between the sounds of classic MINUS & PLUS 8. As others subdivide and categorize we bring things back together, opening things up more freely and allow a closer connection to the music that I love and the sounds & textures that many of my DJ sets journey through.” Richie Hawtin.

    [XLR8R]

The label helmed by Richie Hawtin, Minus, has announced it will soon drop a brand-new compilation aiming to take advantage of the label's healthy roster and bridge the gap between the sounds of Minus and its sister imprint, Plus 8. Called MinMAX, the offering will arrive on May 24 as a sizable set of two CDs, three 12"s, and a 24-track digital download—all bursting with a grabbag of new goodies and exclusive tunes from label faithfuls Heartthrob, Gaiser, and Mathew Jonson. As he told Resident Advisor, Hawtin suggests that he "thought it was time to bring my labels Plus 8 and Minus closer together. The resulting series of releases is an evolving exploration of where these two entities converge. In extremes, 'min' represents a further push into the world of subtraction where I have found so much inspiration over the past decade, while 'MAX' continues to push an envelope in intensity and structure."

The first disc of the double-CD release will include 12 all-new tracks, with the second disc—curated by DJ Hobo—picking a few out of the first disc and incorporating them with other Minus tunes. The vinyl edition of MinMAX will feature an unmixed mishmash of 12 tunes from those two discs, while the digital version will put the entire package in one easy-to-buy place, along with some extras.

    08. The Japanese Popstars - Disconnect (Maxime Dangles Remix) [Bedrock Records | BEDTJP01D]

The Japanese Popstars - Disconnect is the first single taken from the forthcoming album released on July 15th.

This single is released on June 17th and features remixes from Maxime Dangles and Proxy along with a bonus original track called "The Knock".

    Released by: Bedrock Records
    Release/catalogue number: BEDTJP01D
    Release date: Jun 17, 2013

    09. Depeche Mode - Soothe My Soul (Matador Main Remix) [Mute | 88883730701]

Dublin's Matador has made four mixes, the main mix gets a vinyl pressing, while the More Vox Mix, Dub Mix and Instrumental mixes are as yet unreleased.

In the past four years Matador aka Gavin Lynch’s sounds have found a home on Perc Trax and Cocoon, plus most recently on Plus 8 , where Richie Hawtin recently introduced the young Dubliner ahead of his first Minus event (at Berlin’s Watergate, joining the Minus team for the official Fly Bermuda after party), with his stellar remix of Bryan Zentz’s D-Clash. After that introductory taste, Matador then took the bull by the horns for his first full EP for Minus, exploring the twisted but organic techno sound he’s best known for.

          Both files now up.
Electric Rescue's should come with a health warning ... certainly not for the faint hearted

          Double CD now out:

Electric Rescue aka Antoine Husson is one France’s leading electronic music producer/DJ talents. ‘Sonic Architecture’ is his new album, to be released on John Digweed’s Bedrock label.‘Sonic Architecture’ is a 12 track collection that shows Electric Rescue moving deftly between the kind of taut, melodic techno; ‘heads down’ harder edged dancefloor rhythms; and experimental electronica he’s brought to prominence on Gallic soil. A confident, flowing artist album, it’s the type of release that can only stem from years of experience and near constant immersion within electronic music culture.

First discovered by Laurent Garnier, Electric Rescue embodies French electronic music’s avante garde sensibility, combining it with a techno worldview that crosses all borders. The rollcall of labels he’s released music on reads like a who’s who of leading and legendary imprints, from Bedrock to Soma, F Communications to Harthouse, Sci + Tec, Cocoon, Traum, Boyznoize Records and beyond, building up an extensive discography and an enviable career in the process.

As a DJ, his residency at Rex Club cemented his reputation on home turf, later gaining noteriety by organising Paris’ infamous Play parties. Further afield, he’s played every major club worth referencing – Berghain, panoramabar, Club Tresor, Air Club, Moog (Barcelona), The Edge, Picnik, Herr Zimmerman, Decadence, East Village Club and many more. A keen eye for new talent, Antoine has championed the likes of Julian Jewell, Traumer, Maxime Dangles, Commuter and many more.

Due to work behind on my transitions...halfway through Digweed's set...really good vibe to it...lots of dark sexy sounds with a bit of edge about it.

Just saw the richie hawtin promo!?!

THere is a video on YouTube supposedly of a b2b set circa 05/06?!

Can simonr or anyone else validate this? Styles were and still are quite different but maybe there is enough tracks in their collections to converge their sounds together for a b2b set.
