    New DJ Talent

Are any of you ambitious DJ's concerned that you are going to struggle to break into the scene. What with the rapid enhancement of technology and the use of CDR's and MP3's is it going to be difficult to distinguish between a good and bad DJ?

Indeed will vinyl be around in 5 to 10 years time?

i'm not worried because i'm not looking to be famous. I just wanna make solid tracks and sick sets....

as for vinyl, well I can't tell you whether it'll be around or not.

Good djs will always stick out. As for most us on here that dj either for fun or just to get a little cash. It is all about the music not to be famous.

          What is the Jesus pose?

ABSOLUTELY. The technical side (beat matching) is only the beginning to the DJ craft. The artistry comes in when you get to programming, selection, the "ear" for good music, and how to put all that shit together.

The new technology is making the game accessable to more people, and giving those already in the game more options on how and what to mix, but the cream will always rise to the top-- the best DJs will be know by their work. (Save for the odd wanker who sucked his way to fame and fortune.)

vynil will only disappear when either the demand is no longer there anymore to make/buy it, or the suppliers cannot afford to make (and sell) it for a reasonable cost.

vinyl is set to finish in 2009 apparently. the material used to make them is in short supply and is apparently needed for more serious things. Thats what i heard but i dont know the full truth in it. It certainly would give an indication why djs are making a jump to other formats such as computers and cd. why should the likes of sasha use a computer when he was managing perfectly ok with vinyl and was still filling clubs. his minder or the bouncers would be carrying the records for him anyway so the weight thing wouldent have came into the equation

not necessarily...the simple ease of cd's or a laptop and the less weight involved can make a huge difference, especially when traveling on planes (less luggage, less chance of getting your record bag "stolen", etc.)..

the 2009 bit has fluttered around here and there...my guess is a by-product is discovered that's realtively cost-efficient to utilize, otherwise sure the prices would go through the roof.

as for breaking through, I'm sure many of us have the dream here and there of being in the "big time"...but if you can rise up in your local/area scene and be one of the more frontrunners or solid supporters, then you've definitely made it right there.

does it really matter what format a dj plays? as long as he/she plays great music, does it really make any difference? the only problems i have with records are the good ones sell out, you can never find them, and the quality wears out over time...you never have to worry about that with cds/mp3s....just my 2 cents...

I'm pretty sure CD's have a shelf life as well. Say goodbye to your mp3's as well in the case of a EMP strike.
