Re: Tunes that Evoke Memories
When I first started listening to S&D around mid-late 1999 the first album I bought was Expeditions. Belfunk quickly became one of my favorite songs, but for some reason I never heard it played by them. I was dieing to hear it on the legendary Phazon sound system.
I believe it was April of 2001 if my memory serves me correctly. Paul van Dyk was playing that night at the greatest club in the world. (I know PvD is not a fan favorite here, but out of all the resident DJ's he packed the house the most, and also brought out the prettiest girls. His music was okay, but the parties themselves rocked).
I'd say it's about 4 or 5 am and I'm sitting in the small lounge area east of the main dance floor, just chatting with some friends and what do I hear... Belfunk being slowly mixed in. (a much deeper mix than usual for PvD). I was so happy I sceamed out "Belfunk!!!!" and I walked as fast as possible to the middle of the dance floor to immerse myself in pure joy. PvD was the last DJ I expected to drop that tune. (He also played it when was at club Exit a few years later.) I'll never forget that moment. Whenever I hear that song it takes me back to that moment in time.
