    Release Notes:

    01. Vincent Vidal - Press Start [Truesoul | TRUE1245]

The EP kicks off with ‘Night Escape’ which, uses a melodic synth line coupled with the funky bass line to give the track a groove that will see ‘Night Escape’ become an essential in every DJ’s crate. The breakdown leads the listener into a different direction before coming back around and dropping back into that funky groove. The second track ‘Press Start’ uses a sub bass line that will tear through dance-floors. Rhythmic percussion accompanies the bass line before powerful stabs are introduced to the mix to give the track a unique character.

    Released by: Truesoul
    Release/catalogue number: TRUE1245

    02. Marc Antona - The Hack Fellow (Brush Rush EP) [Dissonant Records | DS017]

The Hack Fellow Marc Antona brings it back home in a blaze of fearless creativity with this new EP for his own label. “Brush Rush” channels the loose, surprising rhythms of jazz into a celebration of percussion to test the most drum loving DJs, while “the hack Fellow” delivers a seductive hypnotic groove taking us into a truly addictive musical journey.

    Released by: Dissonant Records
    Release/catalogue number: DS017
    Release date: Jul 1, 2013

    03. Robosonic & Adana Twins - Barracuda (La Fique EP) [2DIY4 | 2DIY4_09]

For years Robosonic have been building a reputation as DJs for murdering dance-floors worldwide – not only playing what they really feel, but also performing their own multidimensional electronic music. Together with the Adana Twins from Hamburg they made a hot new EP on 2DIY4.

The first track is made up of melodic disco and funk inspired tunes and easy bass-lines which immediately bring you to the vibe of summer. The lovely Vocal adds further feelings of recklessness and freedom which will immediately get you to dance.

The second track „Barracuda“ takes a darker approach with it’s dirty bassline, still combining disco infected vocals and elements in style. It is like turning back time right into the disco- dance-floor of the 70’s!

    Released by: 2DIY4
    Release/catalogue number: 2DIY4_09
    Release date: Jun 3, 2013

    04. Rob Amboule - Pushin' On [2020 Vision Recordings | VIS240]

Rob Amboule is a relatively fresh name on the scene, the young artist stepped onto 2020Vision’s radar following the London based producers self released white-label, KERRI01. A record which put Amboule on the map and was heavily supported by the likes of Paul Woolford, who closed the Space Terrace with one of the cuts last year, and Heidi on her Radio 1 show. This introductory single has now led to a full EP of original material for 2020 here, joining the likes of Ejeca, Huxley and Maya Jane Coles on the roster.

The release kicks off with ‘Kerri’, a raw deep house cut, embracing a classic aesthetic, the record employs an amalgamation of cutting chords, blooming pads and vocal snippets, running alongside swinging 909 drums. ‘Pushin’ On’ follows, displaying a more understated, reserved approach to Amboule’s productions, as he tightly blends swirling pads, resonant synths, and shuffling percussion, with sensual vocal lines uttering the tracks title. Amboule adds a further musicality to the track in the centre stages, throwing in a tension building synth string for good measure.

Last up to close the single is ‘Part Three’, taking on a retro US House approach, with its crunchy claps, warm, evolving Rhodes melodies and stabbing bass hooks, these elements build the foundations of the record while subtle nuances in the drum programming and background atmospherics add character.

    05. Human Halo - Groove All Night ( Patrick Chardronnet Remix) (This Is Not Fume E.P) [Oh! My God Recordings | OMGR007]

Artists who best understand our philosophy of music return to the fray with more Techno and Funk. Their EP direct more dance tracks without ever losing his taste for black music. Dark, Mental, Travel .. Let yourself go! Including 2 Remix producers bringing more than one dab in the underground scene. Patrick Chardronnet (Poker Flat) and Jussi-Pekka (Mood Music & Out of Orbit).

    06. Chris Fortier - Round Turn Life (Andromo Dirty Bonus Remix) [Fade Records | Promo]

Fade records re-opens the vaults to bring further remixes of 40oz's June 2011 track 'Round Turn Life' [FD91]. As Fade Records continues to roll forward with another REMIXES addition from Chris Fortier, we offer Round Turn Life from the man himself in the form of future underground movements courtesy of El Salvador's Andromo. This follows a previous March 2013 remix package involving Tonepushers and Forest People [FD109].

    07. Foremost Poets - Reasons To Be Dismal? (Dixon Update) [Poker Flat Recordings | PFR139]

Poker Flat roar back into action with a remix package for Foremost Poets’ classic club track, 'Reasons to be Dismal?.' Originally out in 1989, 'Reasons to be Dismal?' gets three slamming new takes courtesy of some of the biggest names in the underground.

First up is Dixon, one of the most respected DJs and label owners on the planet. The Berliner serves up another signature slice of pared down, driving house music that maintains the classic vibe of the Poets original.

The ExtendedSight version makes a welcome return to vinyl having been available on the original NuGroove release - a classic piece of dubbed out leftfield house, full of unhinged synths and cut up textures and scratches - sure to get the heads racing to the booth for a track ID.

Poker Flat head Steve Bug, who worked with Foremost Poets on this highly regarded Noir album, also offers a version, a tribute to the original track with replayed strings, updated drum sounds and a slightly different arrangement that brings in his favourite part a second time resulting in a more mix friendly ending.

Last but not least is MotorCitySoul’s remix – who choose to bring out the more Balearic, melodic elements of the track - a perfect sunrise record if ever there was one.

Digital Bonus: Digital customers also have the chance to use the iconic original vocal in their own mixes with the included accapella.

Beatport exclusive: MotorCitySoul’s Basic Remix stretches out an irresistible groove over 8 and half minutes- utilizing the Foremost Poet’s vocal in full and rebooting the track to a contemporary context.

    Release/catalogue number: pfr139
    Release date: May 27, 2013

    08. DJ Red - Awake (Eyes Are Blind EP) [Bpitch Control | BPC269]

The Lady in Red regularly impresses with her DJ sets, combining relentless energy with a sinister atmosphere that veritably crackles with tension. DJ Red, officially known as Simona Calvini, is one of Italy's veteran DJ artists, and remains one of the most ambitious. Simona has held a residency at Rome's famous Goa Club, sharing its turntables with countless international legends of club music. The same goes for her sets at festivals and clubs all over Europe DC10, Bar 25, Berghain to name just a few, and above all her sensational BPitch showcases.

Now that same forceful sound of Simona's sets has finally been captured on a record. The first three tracks of her EP Eyes Are Blind are pure energy, authentic and uncompromising club music of the very highest level. Mega bass lines, monster kicks, sometimes four-to-the-floor, sometimes with a break, rasping hi-hats, outlandish sounds, pure tension. Hooks? No chance! Vocals perhaps? You've got to be kidding! Though the two bonus tracks find some middle ground. Here DJ Red delivers classic, straight-up minimal tech-house with wacky, playful electronica elements. An impressive release don't play this at home, kids.

    09. Arkist - Rendezvous (SCB 2011 Edit) [Apple Pips | PIPS023]

    First appeared on Scuba's DJ-Kicks (Unmixed) [K7 Records | K7291DTM].

The curatorial direction Appleblim has always chosen to take with Apple Pips is rooted in his DJ sets, testing tracks to the nth degree and searching for those cuts which engender the desired emotional response in the club. Arkist’s 2011 banger Rendezvous held plenty of that weight in its original form, and it wasn’t long before Scuba wanted to get his hands on the parts for a more house-minded revision in line with his SCB output.

Kept as a secret weapon of ‘Blims ever since it was first crafted, Scuba’s DJ Kicks mix in 2012 finally brought about a public airing of his own edit. With the dust settled on that particular chapter, it’s only fitting that this rock solid interpretation receives a full vinyl release over which the eight minutes of poised keys, unflinching bass and swelling atmospherics can prowl undisturbed.

For the flip, we’re let in on a particularly enlightening update that takes the temperature of Scuba’s SCB productions at this moment in time. His 2013 Dub adopts a darker tone, slowly growing into a taut monster of submerged techno. After the audacious ripples of snare drum that make up the breakdown, the full meat of the track is revealed in a blur of acidic intensity, giving way to abandon where before there had only been the suggestion of it.

Honed for the club and thoroughly road tested, these remixes plunge Arkist’s production into wholly new territory while highlighting Scuba’s considerable instinct for hypnotic, enveloping floor tackle that can fit a cavernous rave as much as a sweaty basement. Plays and support coming from Carl Craig and Will Saul.

    [RA Review]

Arkist's first solo release for Laurie Osborne's Apple Pips came in June 2011. Its A-side, "Rendezvous," blended summer soul with an off-kilter garage framework and was the Bristol producer's watershed track. Three months later, a deeper, more muscular Scuba edit appeared as the midway crescendo on his DJ-Kicks mix, but no official release ever followed.

Having been a recurring feature in Osborne's sets for the past two years, Scuba's eight-minute "SCB Edit" now finally sees a vinyl release, alongside a freshly produced dub mix. Whereas the original edit embedded trance undertones and cavernous reverb to create an epic, rushing number, the dub version centres on its bounding weight. There's also far less emphasis on the climatic breakdown, with the build becoming only a backdrop feature. Both versions are strong in their own right, and the alternative version does bring something new to the table. But perhaps a release a while back would have benefited the original edit's initial momentum.

I take it people actually dance, mix/mingle in Ibiza rather than just standing their staring at the DJ booth?

It was fun while it lasted...
