    John Digweed to Fritz Kalkbrenner

JD: Iʼm always interested to hear about Berlinʼs techno scene from born-and-bred Berliners. How is Berlinʼs club scene these days compared with when you first started getting into it in the late 1990s? Do you have any interesting observations about its recent changes?

FK: The scene nowadays is of course bigger, brighter, louder, more diverse, more international, sometimes more random and we from way back in the day from the late 90's we never had an imagination or idea how large this whole thing would one day get. What we had in that time was enough for us. I mean the city and the clubs they had a very good link up with the artists from Detroit so they played quite often here in Berlin and it suited quite well to the style of the city and that defined the sound of the city in this time. Speaking of Basic Channel, Chain Reaction and all those but nowadays we can now say that with the variety of goods there comes a whole new say competition of quality you know.

    Fritz Kalkbrenner to John Digweed

FK: You are one of the few DJs that manages to avoid falling into the transient trends that affect house music, and yet you always sound current, cutting-edge even. How have you managed to keep that balance for so long?

JD: I think I really love what I do, the fact that there is a constant stream of new artists and producers who`s tracks keep me excited year after year is what keeps me motivated. I also have the upmost respect for my fans who support me year after year and it`s very important for me to make sure they leave with a smile on there face night after night. I don`t consider what I do as a job as I live and breath music 247365 and I think that is why I am so passionate about what I do.
