Such a touchy topic, in general im against abortion. people have lost all responsibility over thier actions in recent years. if you cant feed em, dont breed em. However, i am 100% behind people having the option, kinda like a neccessary evil. but should only be used in rape cases and minors. just cause sue got fucked up and forgot to think about it, shouldnt let her run from the consequences of her own stupidity. :?

as for social policies, keep them, but limit the peoples time on them, we should force people who enjoy welfare so much to at least search for jobs, plenty of places hiring. the whole principle of social policy is having the people who work harder, pay for those who dont. its not about helping the less fortunate, it gives them a sense of complacency in the system. if we gave the benifits to them, but made it clear that, say, welfare was only gonna last them three months, and they have to obtain a job, im sure the recipient would get a job in 2 months just to get the xtra month of welfare as a bonus.

I dunno. A child shouldn't be a "consequence." That makes it seem like we're punishing people for making bad decisions. It probably isn't good for anyone to have unwanted children coming into the world to parents who may not have the means or willingness to take care of them. It kinda sucks to suggest that a pregnancy be terminated because the would-be parents don't feel like dealing with it, but I'm not sure the alternative is any better.

On the other hand, too many people use abortion as a form of birth control, which to me is problematic. Have unprotected sex, get pregnant, get an abortion, start the cycle over. Ugh.

There's no perfect solution. I don't see it finding its way into my life, but I do think it ought to be an option b/c there are certainly circumstances where it is the lesser evil...

i dont think of the child as a consequence. i think of the pregnancy and the parental responsibilities that werent expected as the consequences. the consequences should be enough to at least make you think. no matter how shitty i have gotten, i have always remembered to at least cover my ass as best i could.

i think a solution to this would be give a baby to a 17 year old to take care of in all aspects. earning money for food, daycare, the child itself and everything that comes with it. dont give them any financial support during the time. maybe they will get a little sense of what its like having to care for antoher human. a human that will die if not cared for properly.

Whether you consider the consequences to be the
demanded accountability and responsibility for the parent
or the birth of a potentially unloved child, the reality
is that the child will be placed in an extremely
            undesirable situation--possibly the target of
perpetual resentment as well as financial dire straits. Now, I agree that the idea of abortion evokes a strong
visceral reaction; one that is unsettling. However, I
believe it is preferrable to the comprising of a child's
life due to the irresponsibility of parents.

Further, no one consistently uses abortion as a form
of birthcontrol. If you know anyone who has had an
abortion, it is not a pleasant experience. Women
are typically left with a profound sense of guilt and
few would opt to utilize the procedure again. All of this
shit about women getting 4 or 5 abortions in their life
time is utter bull shit....Just like the "rich welfare
mothers" who are getto superstars, but are too lazy
to look for a job. I'm sorry to disappoint you, but this
just isn't the case. Finding a job that allows you the
time and money to care for a family is difficult, especially
if you don't have any specific skills. Minimum wage is
not enough for food, clothing, schooling, day care, etc.
One would have to work about 60 hours per week
at minimum wage in order to provide a meager level
of existence for a small family...

Forgive me, but I've been reading a lot about the
industrial revolution lately...And, as Marx notes,
minimum wage is designed to be the bare minimum
needed to keep the laborer alive and subordinate....It
does not take into consideration a humane existance.
In light of this fact, social programs seem all the more
            ivaluable.

With regard to abortion, let the parents chose...

I'm for most Americans by definition a 'socialist' or 'flaming liberal' given my European descent, and yes, I'm for the right of abortion. But I don't like the fact it is necessary.

Did you guys know that in the Netherlands (your govt. once called our liberal policies a 'nightmare') we have one of the lowest percentages of teenage mothers? You see, the problem lies not within the possibility of having an abortion. It's in how future prospects are for young women and availability of preservatives. Where do you think most teenage preganancies occur?

                Right.

Among poor people, low education levels. First of all, they usually like to spend their money on other things than rubbers and pills. Food, housing, basic needs, maybe drugs. Second, there is a connection between low education level and use of preservatives: the proof is all over the goddamn place. Educate your peepz and they will know.

IMO Sightless...your best option is to narrow the gap between rich and poor.

i think one of the bigger factors in these US social ideas is the american culture. where teens idolize people like britney spears and Jay-Z. these people arent exactly role models cuz they can sing/dance/act.

i mean, have you ever seen the billboard top 40?? looks like a who's who of wealthy criminals and whores. one word Eminem. lok what he promotes and the influence he has on the youth of today. If you kid/sister came home with that clown, in all honesty, would you be happy(ignore the fame/fortune, look at him). but we, as a culture, make them famous.

another thing is the lack of responsibility that lies within the parents. look at how many teachers say thier biggest problem is the parents who call or stop in to argue grades and punishments when they should be sitting the kid down like the previous generations did.

Add that to what I said and I think we've covered a large part of the problematics in this yeah...It's unbelieveable indeed what the role models of today are. Most of them I wouldn't even allow myself to become friends with ffs!
