    Porter's new direction?

shit, i've been meaning to ask this for weeks, but keep forgetting.

anyway, for those of you that were @ porter's party in Miami, or anyone else who's heard him live lately for that matter, do his live sets sound like his recent kiss mix?

i was digging what he was doing before, but i'm still on the fence about this new style he's got. (dj'ing wise, production work is still spot on). I like some of the tunes on the kiss mix, but overall it reminds me of one of those old MOS sampler albums. poppy sounds, disco, 2 mins per song, etc.

I plan on checking him out next week regardless, but I'm curious because I'm just not feeling this kiss mix (which is all i have to go by).

I caught his set in Miami and that kiss mix is mostly based on it. Easily up there with the best sets I heard in Miami...maybe even the best and there's some seriously stiff competition there. Trust me hearing him live you won't be disappointed...he comes to party!

even though the kiss mix was based on the Porterhouse party, it doesnt really capture what he did to us on the dance floor that night. he was dropping in and out of tracks very fast. someone else described it as: "bassline heaven" and that it was. ill, nasty, sick, dark beats. the kiss mix is a bit more funky than i remember @ porterhouse. either way he is not to be missed. he has an unmatched energy behind the decks.

i completely agree with jib . here's a link to a good review and some pics of the show.

the review says it all and so do most of the pics. but even those can't capture that set/show/night properly.

I saw him here in Houston with Randall Jones earlier this year and he rocked the place. His set did remind me a little of his Kiss mix. Missed his Porterhouse set at WMC for the Bedrock party.

                  Re: Porter's new direction?

I saw Steve Porter in Atlanta twice and he ripped it up. The first time was at a small club and attendance was weak, but he brought it like a champ. It was pretty dark and deep. I loved it.

The second time he brought it again. His Kiss100 set I'm not too crazy about, but I've spoken with him, and he's a really cool guy.

Every set of his I've heard has so much energy and quality basslines - especially that proton set that was on MN last year.

Would love to hear him live,I bet his shows are real party pieces

And as for his productions?Man,he's a legend...........

                        Re: Porter's new direction?

the thing i see him doing a lot is mixing in and out of records quickly with no flaws whtsoever... personally, i think a dj that can mix in and out of songs quickly without losing that certain vibe or flow brings a whole new level of freshness to the set. keeps you moving and never gets old or repetitive. as for his track tastes, i think they greatly compliment his quick in-and-out style.

you guys remember last year or year before's kiss100 where he played like 15 tracks in an hour? i thought that was pretty damn impressive.
Should I fuck you at that not until the ass, inject then tremendously hard bumschen and to the termination in the eyes yes?

that's kinda what i'm a little iffy about, is the quick in and out style. i understand the energy and all, but it seems that the groove would be lost.
does he do this all through the set or does it change up?
