When you look at the future of the drum & bass scene, especially the section that keeps the dancefloor bouncing, Smooth’s name has to be mentioned. Over the last four years, he’s moved from strength to strength, aligning himself with Viper Recordings. Futurebound’s imprint is the perfect vehicle for Smooth. He’s been working his way to a debut album, and with the massively well-received “The Sky’s Gonna Break,” he’s definitely on his way to a banger. Out on September 22 is the single for “The Sky’s Gonna Break,” which features “Fornax” on the flipside along with this smashing VIP, which plays perfectly on the beautiful piano and Shaz’ vocals, but turns up the heat on this unrelenting drum & bass assault. Proper upfront drum & bass business, seen?

Staying ahead of the rest with their own brand of neck-snapping beats, Ulterior Motive bring out the dark funk flavours of underground drum & bass at it’s finest. Their rise may have been rapid with releases on Metalheadz, Subtitles and Critical over the past few years but it’s a firm commitment to quality over quantity that continues to set them apart. Live and at full speed, their sound has stirred subs worldwide and DJ sets have taken the duo everywhere from Amsterdam to Australia. Fusing a characteristic mix of high-definition basslines and precision breaks, recent releases include remixes for Future Cut and Natalie Duncan plus the cross-collaborative “Versus” EP. Ulterior Motive are busy for the rest of 2013 writing their debut album for Metalheadz.

Sub Focus is back with another party anthem
The new single Turn It Around is a happy go lucky, drum and bass track with a catchy electronic hook. It actually sounds a lot like if Avicii did drum&bass. It builds from verses of Okereke’s mellow tones into a drop with those repetitive and addictive electronic notes acting as the chorus.
Turn It Around is a follow up to Sub Focus’ recent hit Endorphins featuring British singer-songwriter Alex Clare. Both these tracks will appear on Sub Focus’ second studio album Torus set to be released in the coming months. It’s been four years since his first album self-titled Sub Focus and Torus will cover a variety of genres and feature many awesome vocal guests ...
