    [Data Transmission]

2013 has already seen some stellar collaborations. From high profile team ups between Nile Rodgers and a host of stars, most notably Daft Punk to more underground projects like techno originator Juan Atkins hooking up with Basic Channel’s Moritz Von Oswald to form Borderland or Regis departing from Sandwell District to form Jealous God and Concrete Fence, it certainly has been a year where teamwork has been the name of the game.

The latest artists to share a new joint project are John Digweed and Nick Muir with the Bedrock boss revealing the pairing have collaborated on a three disc album set entitled Versus and that it will be seeing release via his imprint this October. The project sprung from humble beginnings with the duo initially planning a “remix swap” before an “extended EP” was written and “then out of nowhere... an album with many twists and turns.”

As a project it has seen Digweed and Muir edit twelve of their current favorites with efforts from Jozif, Psycatron, Guy J and Pig & Dan all featuring on the first CD before being mixed together by Digweed before the second reveals ten of them unmixed. The third disc however is the one likely to generate excitement as it boasts eight original cuts from Digweed and Muir and will showcase their time in the studio together. . In addition to the limited-edition CD release, which also features a 20-page booklet, Bedrock will release a triple-vinyl edition with 11 of the Versus tracks.

    [Mix Junkies]

John Digweed and Nick Muir are two legends within the dance music scene. When they team up together, they create the dynamic production duo Bedrock, that has been adorned by fans for years.

When John Digweed and Nick Muir team up for a project, they have to go above and beyond the call of duty and revolutionize how people do things. That is exactly what is presented with their brand new 3-part concept collaboration album Versus.

Versus is a landmark celebration in new and innovation. Having hand selected 12 of their favorite producers, who have really caught their attention, John Digweed and Nick Muir have challenged these respected artists to showcase their skills. Featuring talents like The Japanese Popstars, MArco Bailey, Jamie Stevens, Guy J, Pig&Dan, and more, John Digweed and Nick Muir have combined with each of these artists to create a special “versus” track.

The first CD contains all these tracks seamlessly mixed together by John Digweed, while the second CD features all these tracks spotlighted on their own. The third CD is set to showcase the incredible production skill of John Digweed and Nick Muir. With just a handful of tracks completed, John Digweed and Nick Muir linked together to give the public 8 new and unreleased tracks featuring the Digweed/Muir name with it all mixed together by Nick Muir.

"What started out as a remix swap then an extended EP then out of nowhere after 12 months an album and with many twists and turns, Versus is finally here featuring a set of amazing collaborations and remixes with some of our favourite producers from around the world. We’d like to say a huge thank you to these brilliant artists for making this project happen" [John Digweed]

    03. COMA - Les Dilettantes (Roosevelt Mix) [Kompakt | KOM 287]

Having released their debut full-length IN TECHNICOLOR (Kompakt 279) to universal acclaim earlier this year, COMA's Marius Bubat and Georg Conrad are pleased to present IN TECHNICOLOR REMIXE: the second 12" for the album after primer MY ORBIT (Kompakt 27 features the considerable talents of TERRANOVA, ROOSEVELT and ZOMBIES IN MIAMI, who each deliver powerful reworks of their favourite tracks, resulting in a fine collection of highly varied cuts ready to ignite the dance floor of your choice. Starting with angular stomper OUT OF CONTROL, masters of horizontal thrust TERRANOVA prove once again to be at the top of their game, delivering a suspenseful remix of the brightly colored original which turns out to be a more than thankful source of inspiration. Recasting the piano in a more dramatic fashion than its predecessor and bundling its beats for bigger impact, this version displays a gratifyingly relentless focus on the floor and engages the listener in an enthralling game of cat-and-mouse between the percussion and its melodic counterparts.

One of the most expressive cuts of IN TECHNICOLOR gets a deserved club update with album collaborator ROOSEVELT's revamp of LES DILETTANTES. Originally a slightly no-wavey narrative sporting the idiosyncratic voicework of MIT's Edi Winarni, the track now pushes back its free-form properties for a heavily disco-infused work-out driven by exquisite hooks and a delibarately jam-like mentality. Edi's singing remains largely unchanged, but reveals unexpected glamour within the new context, making this an appropriately flashy addition to IN TECHNICOLOR REMIXE.

The 12" closes with ZOMBIE IN MIAMI's take on CYCLE, one of IN TECHNICOLOR's most epic renditions: the illustrious duo takes its straight-faced elation and turns it on its head with a blend of sun-bleached guitar licks, heavy-duty beats and a well-dosed serving of peyote-laced synths. The somewhat romantic sensibilities found in the original get a seriously saturnine overhaul, therefore developing a menacing quality that never fails to thrill the unsuspecting crowd. It's a perfect conclusion to an enticingly polymorph collection of reworks that may take to the floor from different angles, but always find their respective ways to the epicenter of the action.

    Release Date // September 23, 2013 (physical & digital)
    Format // 12"
    Catalog Nr // Kompakt 287
    EAN // 880319087813

    05. Simply City - Breaking (Dave Angel Rework) [ Hope Recordings | HOPE 116]

Both the original mix of 'Breaking' and the amazing 'Zero Distance' showcase a serious emerging talent in the shape of this Canadian duo. Also after releases this summer already on Bedrock, Toolroom & Intec, Mr. Dave Angel adds his trademark techno leaning funk to the title track on this EP. Already big for Nick and Hernan.

    06. Paride Saraceni - Deeply Wired (Centaurus EP) [Trapez | TRAPEZ 146]

Paride Saraceni is known for his productions internationally and "Centaurus" proves again there are not many techno producers around who can bring together such a powerful production with a distinguished sound design.

"Centaurus" is one of these bold but comfortable trax you can play as loud as you want, they will always settle down nicely. The track keeps a low profile instead of being "in your face"... instead it works very much through the parameters of a sophisticated acoustic shaping and a massive baseline and is destined to be played out on bigger floors hence can easily manage peak time situations, since it is a real DJ weapon.

"Deeply Wired" is Paride’s excursion into the tribal world, which has always been attractive for techno producers. As he puts it himself: I think "Deeply Wired" showcases quite a particular way of using tribal percussions, which not many people do nowerdays... at least I haven't noticed it... This is why I wanted to experiment with it".

"Deeply Wired" has a unique Chicago house touch taking in an influence that you can’t deny a person like Lil Louis might be responsible for. Adapting it to harder techno this means Paride has programmed the sequences in a way that this feeling is kept also with his uptempo techno productions.

Tomy DeClerque has remixed "Deeply Wired" in a machine like "grinding" fashion from the beginning he makes it very clear, this remix is here too rock muscles in a funky but steady way. We can see this remix is a crowd pleaser in a big way! Get on the techno-bus!

Metodi Hristov’s remix of "Deeply Wired" could not be more different from the one of Tomy DeClerque’s, does it not choose a vintage sound design (including: classic percussion) and melodic chords that sneak in towards the middle of the track and thereby convey nicely the spirit of the Warehouse spirit of the early 90ies.

The last track "Sinnerland" connects nicely with "Deeply Wired" giving it a percussive but deeper approach, with chords slowly surfacing creating a hypnotic, warm and seductive feel.

    Release Date - 7 Oct 2013

    09. Le Carousel - Lose Your Love (Andrew Weatherall Mix) [Phil Kieran Recordings | PKRD014]

These tracks are all drawn from Le Carousel, Phil Kierans forthcoming album recorded with a discerning selection of talented Irish musicians. Its a thoughtful album with Phil's perfectionist nature, musical talent, engineering and mixing skills turned towards the art of songwriting. Its a symbol of a more innocent age, a woozy look back into childhood, a blissed out album of reflective songcraft, tinged with time-lapse psychedelia and shot through with hazy fairground ephemera. Here they are reimagined for the dancefloor, filtered through Phils unerring techno sensibility, and shot through with more than a hint of the New York post punk disco that has infused his recent releases. They are a perfect fusion of techno and song, of rhythms and beats, soundscapes, textures and melodies, and equally suited for the dancefloor or watching a beautiful sunrise over a beach at dawn.

Phils last two releases contained remixes by Dave Clarke, DJ Hell and Maya Jane Coles and on this we have the bona fide legend that is Andrew Weatherall. Listen and you will find it easy to hear why they were all so happy to remix Phils work: there's the strong percussive structure that is his trademark, at once both subtle and strong, which make it so easy to work with. Its no wonder with work of this high level that he can count so many top DJs as admirers of his work. Andrew Weatherall does, on Lose Your Love, what he has done so well over so many years: skilfully striping it down and turning up the techno, giving the track it's own life free from that of its original. Its a job very well done, again.

Wow is this the hardest Kiss guest mix? This is full-on techno like what Beyer or Liebing might play.
