Re: Gravity (2013)
It's very, very good - I'm actually surprised at how well Sandra Bullock rises to the occasion of nearly carrying a movie on her own, conveying a convincing sense of trying to find the will to survive in the face the peril her character experiences and how inconceivably slim the odds of her survival are.
It's a fantastically shot film and really needs the IMAX 3D just for the sheer vastness of the backdrops, the clever and creative use of the 3D filming and the seamless interaction between the actors and the special effects - it's an extremely impressive achievement on its technical merits alone. Cuaron also manages to pull off a stunningly shot film as well - the camerawork is what really makes this a must see in IMAX 3D. He has some incredibly long takes reminiscent of some of Brian De Palma's best works, and squeezes every bit of inventiveness in order to keep up the suspense and keep the audience intimately involved in the scary situations you're seeing onscreen.
There's been some stuff posted by Neil Lagasse Tyson about the inaccuracies of the film (but he still praised it), and yeah, now that I look at it, he's right - but when I saw it in the theater, I didn't notice, and I doubt I'd really care either. Sometimes you got to take liberties in order to preserve the spectacle - see also just about any movie where the hero outruns a huge explosion.Comment

Re: Gravity (2013)
Finally saw it in 3D. There's nothing like it, feels like the first true 3D movie. Cuaron fully exploits the Z axis in his long takes, this film needs to win Best Cinematography. Bullock was absolutely amazing and Clooney provided an awesome charming counterpart. Only disappointed that I didn't get to watch it at IMAX. Hope it becomes the space film of this generation and inspire a bunch of future astronauts.

Re: Gravity (2013)
^I had a similar experience... was on the edge of my seat throughout most of the film. Clooney added a much needed decompression to many of the scenes. Sandra did a great job balancing total panic with total control. Reminded me of her role in Speed a lot. Watching this film in 3d is a mental trip... I saw everything differently after the film was over and emotionally I felt like I had been through a lot , since it felt so real.
It was fun while it lasted...Comment

Nice, I'm going to brew a nice cup of tea and enjoy myself in true 3D formats.

Re: Gravity (2013)
Such a simple story and so brilliantly done. I got so many questions about this movie and I think I would love to see the 'making of' when it gets released on bluray. Sandra Bullock looked fit in this, she does not age.
