Volksgarten Pre-Party - 01 - Trei (Uprising Records, State of Mind Music) @ Vienna (18.10.2013)
Trei has been in the top three of my list of NZ producers since I fell in love with his debut LP “Innuendo” a few years ago. The lad from Welly has done it again with the potent “Satellites”, released on State of Mind’s label SOM Music.

“Satellites” explodes out of the blocks with smasher “Change Your Mind”. Long time collaborator Thomas Oliver’s vocal has the unique effect of making the tune feel both familiar and exciting in equal measure. This kind of sums up the album’s story actually: familiar elements abound – such as the heavy industrial synth bass as seen on dark and menacing “Misfits” - but they meld seamlessly with new elements like distorted guitars on the Upbeats collab “Crossroads” or Beau Jeffries’s tribal vocal; the latter adding a deliciously spiritual and folky (but not in a bad way) vibe to the throbbing and pulsing “Limits”.

Volksgarten Pre-Party - 02 - Optiv b2b BTK (Virus Recordings, Dutty Audio) @ Vienna (18.10.2013)
After joining forces in the studio in their new home town of Bern in Switzerland, the pairing of the British born, Optiv and Brazilian export, BTK has proved to be a bit of a force to be reckoned with in drum & bass circles. Releasing on landmark labels across the scene (from Virus to Frequency, Shogun, Renegade Hardware and Playaz) they’ve got a real reputation for creating unrelenting tracks purposefully for the dancefloor.

Optiv and BTK represent the UK and Brazil respectively and have established a partnership which merges their individual merits for a globally recognised product.
