Release Notes:
01. Eric Volta - Love Your Illusion [No.19 Music | 19041]
Somehow No 19 are about to do it again, the Toronto the label run by Jonny White is about to unleash a truly monstrous new EP that will not only soundtrack dance-floors for months to come, but fully announces the arrival of a talent who has been bubbling under for a while now in the form of UK producer Eric Volta.
Having been road tested in almost every Art Department set since January, No 19 are now ready to unleash drop their most powerful secret weapon into the wider world, and its sure to be one of the biggest of the year. This will be Eric's first solo outing for the label after contributions in the past, but no-one quite saw these standout tracks coming despite him also releasing well received sounds on Visionquest, 1trax & Dirty Bird.
Now based in Berlin, Volta maintains his own unique sonic signature that is part house, part techno and always comes with a healthy dose of off kilter invention. The first of the two remarkable tracks he serves up is the beautifully wide-screen synth vista of Love Your Illusion. Warm but industrial kick drums and taught bass set the tone as searching synths then spray ominous across the whole face of the track. After building and teasing for a while, the synths go into melt down, decaying into acid gurgles and bubbles as the beats below grow that bit more driven. Its an epic and dramatic track that speaks of a lonely future with plenty of raw and analogue production élan and is just the sort of fresh ad refreshing new direction that will make dance-floors exceedingly happy.
The equally impressive Masters of Puppets is a little less devastatingly cinematic, instead Volta crafts a much more organic and human groove that is deep and shuffling, imbued with spoken word musings and subtle ad libs that help make it all the more inviting. The production is still exceptionally proud every perfectly crafted element jumps out of the speakers and grabs your attention with the overall effect one of subdued house funk.
These are two quite different but equally excellent tracks that have your head as well as your heel in overdrive when you are lost inside them. They are so proudly produced they speak wonders of the very real new talent the dance world has in Eric Volta.
02. Russoul - Get Down [Asylum Confidential | AC002]
Asylum Confidential is the Record Label of Asylum Afterhours in Honolulu. Striving to bring quality dance music to the masses. The A1 sees Fathom & Russoul 'The Art Of Expression' with Ardalan providing a remix. Sandwiched between is an original from Russell Dement-Trent aka Russoul.
03. Luciano Esse & Stefano Testa - Pride & Prejudice [Aloe Records | ALOE009]
Luciano Esse teams up with Rashomon's Stefano Testa: the result is impressive and incredibly fresh.
Title track "The Misunderstanding"'s bouncing bass line opens up to a wild pattern of dub synth shots, while a whirlwind of snares and upbeat percussions plays along creating a hypnotic and mesmerising groove.
"Pride And Prejudice" bursts into a flow of kinky vox snippets and its funky low frequency notes lead into a sea of delays and effects.
A bold release from these two very unique artists, this one is going to catch the ears of those who like to listen to the more experimental and refined side of electronic music, away from the standard bunch of stuff that's found all around these days.
04. Alison Moyet - Right As Rain (Terry Farley & Leo Zero Box Energy Dub) (Changeling EP) [Cooking Vinyl | FRYDL605X]
Terry Farley's teamed up with Leo Zero to deliver the most archetypal Moyet dancefloor track since the mid-eighties; it marries her iconic voice to the killer ‘Box Energy Dub’, which delves into late-night, smoke and strobe-filled basement territory. Banger!

06. Stelios Vassiloudis & Sasse - Options and Futures [Audiomatique Recordings | AM53]
Stelios Vassiloudis teams up once more with Sasse, following their 2011 outing on Bedrock. This time round, the pair find a home with Audiomatique, and use it as the perfect platform to launch another assault on the dance floor.
The 'Options and Futures EP' sees the well-traveled collaborators speculating on house's enduring ability to thrill. The original mix fires along at pace, building and building via frenetic synths, and a well-placed vocal stab that references some of the kinetic energy of early house. The whole thing holds together perfectly and is as euphoric a moment as you will hear this year - this will ring out on floors across the globe.
The Phonogenic mix is a different affair - a deeper more spacey voyage but maintaining the taught sense of tension throughout. Dubbed out effects lend it a very late night appeal, somewhere between the main room and the after party.
07. Der Dritte Raum - Hale Bopp (Ricardo Villalobos Remix) [Der Dritte Raum Records | DDR008]
After releasing ‚Morgenland’ album Der Dritte Raum Record’s stable drops their eighth EP, bringing up Hale Bopp, which some of you may know from trance shenanigans back in the roaring 90’s. What makes it even more better then the original classic track are the re-interpretations.
Ricardo Villalobos & Cavaan flashes their acclaimed producer talents and their works are both very original and quite different from each other. Since his epics like ‘Easy Lee’ and ‘Dexter,’ Villalobos has kept stretching out his music, and his Hale Bopp version is full of rhythms and more changing than ever – meandering in ever-widening circles.
Same is Cavaan’s remix. It’s drifting on their own with spiraling barbed rhythms that emerge from couplings of analogue machines. The Ison Adaption on B2 is remodeled by Krüger himself and on all remixes the main-melody is kept, although no samples are used, making it rather different from the original.
