    01. Matt Tolfrey featuring Ya Kid K - Turn You Out (Laura Jones & Gavin Herlihy Dub) [Leftroom Records | LEFTLP004S]

Leftroom boss Matt Tolfrey releases the fantastic 'Turn You Out' featuring Technotronic vocalist Ya Kid K this July. 'Turn You Out' is one of the key tracks from Matt Tolfrey's forthcoming album, 'Word Of Mouth', due out on Leftroom September 2012.

Matt Tolfrey has earned himself a highly praised status among his peers in the industry, developing as a well-respected DJ and label owner. Having birthed and established Leftroom to over thirty releases strong, from reputable artists such as Laura Jones, Kate Simko, Jay Haze and Gavin Herlihy, Matt has now decided the Leftroom imprint is the perfect home for his debut LP 'Word Of Mouth' from which 'Turn You Out' is taken.

The release opens with the original mix of 'Turn You Out', featuring Ya Kid K from infamous 80's outfit Technotronic. Matt was influenced by late 80's anthem 'Pump Up The Jam' during his youth, so Ya Kid K was an instantaneous choice when deciding which vocalists to collaborate with on his album, Matt also sprinkles touches of his own voice on the track adding a further personal touch. The track embodies solid drum programming with crisp hats, crunchy claps and an infectious swing. A short sharp hooky bass line acts as the driving force for its duration, whilst an electric piano sequence and Rhodes licks create classy, elegant house music. Ya Kid K's vocal characteristics sprinkle old-school flavourings on the composition and are structured to maintain a flourishing dynamism and movement throughout the track.

To compliment the release Matt provides the addition of (Dub) and (Instrumental) versions to accompany the floor filler vocal cut.

    02. Tim Green - Don't Like Me (Humming Syrup EP) [Cocoon Recordings | COR12"111]

"The Cocoon tracks are two recent tracks that I have finished! One called 'Don't Like Me' which has a rude baseline to it and catchy vocal hook. The other is a super trippy techno track called Humming Syrup. Its a really interesting couple of tracks here. I am really happy with both tracks, they are quite different from each other too." [Tim Green]

A busy year is about to end for Cocoon Recordings. We proudly look back to some of the highlights on Cocoon Recordings such as our 100th anniversary release compilation or the last Minilogue album. Not to forget the amazing remix by Adam Port for Daniel Stefanik and last but not least our new artist signings Coyu from Barcelona and Julien Bracht from Frankfurt.

The last one of a string of fine releases will come from London based Tim Green. Master Green released on labels like Four:Twenty, Get Physical or Dirty Bird over the last years. His new Cocoon production will be his third one for us which almost makes us his new musical home base.

With “Don’t Like Me” Tim Green presents almost a collage of the current sound of Cocoon Recordings. One can feel the funkyness of producers like Adam Port here and the deepness of names like Julien Bracht at the same time. You also have the pushing and energetic vibe of producers like Harvey McKay in here, too.

And for everybody who wants it more crazy and spaced-out Tim Green gives you “Humming Syrup” on the flipside. Although outfitted with a sweet name this tune is solid freaky business. The perfect track for all the freaks out there!

We say good-bye 2013 with a nice melt-down of the sound of Cocoon in the year 2013. Tim Green serves the right desert to a long and delicious Cocoon Recordings 2013 meal and leaves us all with a satisfied smile on our faces.

    03. Patryk Molinari - Addicted (Addicted To The Vibe EP) [Ritter Butzke Studio | RBS002]

Patryk Molinari presents 'Addicted To The Vibe' EP. Berlin’s Ritter Butzke Studio returns with its second single this December entitled, ‘Addicted To The Vibe’ by Patryk Molinari, and backed with a remix from Kotelett & Zadak.

Patryk Molinari has been a long running resident at the Ritter Butzke nightclub in Berlin, so it’s no surprise to see him on productions duties for the recently launched Ritter Butzke Studio’s second single. After a successful launch single from Mario Aureo & Manuel Moreno, which picked up support from the likes of Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Catz’ N Dogz, Karmon and Alex Niggemann, the label pushes on delivering more low-slung house material embracing the aesthetic of the nightclub’s vibe.

The A-Side cut ‘Addicted’ kicks things off in style with its dropped tempo, dubbed out, 80’s tinged feel. As Molinari skillfully blends, growling low-end tones, raw chord sequences, cosseting pads and a catchy female vocal hook uttering ‘I’m so addicted’, tying the composition together and brilliantly opening the single.

On the flip side we have Molinari’s original mix of ‘Neon Vibe’ up first, this time Patryk opts for a smoother groove-led feel as he rides out a simplistic stabbing synth groove and low-pitched male vocals alongside stripped rhythms which cleverly blossom over the tracks seven minute duration.

Then finally to close the EP we have Kotelett & Zadak’s interpretation of ‘Neon Vibe’, the duo stamp their signature mark on the composition as they flip the feel of the record into new realms bringing the percussive elements to the forefront alongside a bubbling bass hook and an ever-evolving dynamic achieved through refined automation, rounding off the package as a killer three track collection.

    04. Werner Niedermeier - What Is (Phonogenic Remix) (Trust EP) [Turquoise Blue Recordings | TQR013]

The Turquoise Blue imprint has come a long way since its launch in 2011, although having only reached its thirteenth release here to close 2013, the approach has been to embrace an array of musical styles, always maintaining an underground appeal and melodic feel to the output. This year has seen material released from the likes of Russian trio Special Case, Seuil, SLOK, Droog and Djebali, further showcasing the attentive A&R nature of the brains behind the label. Werner Niedermeier slots nicely in amongst the aforementioned names, a rising UK artist who’s notably released works with OFF Recordings, Supplement Facts and Room With A View.

The release kicks off with ‘You Can Trust’, a groove-led hypnotic workout built around jazzy drum samples, ever-evolving pad lines and squelching sub bass tones. These elements subtly bloom and are drawn out across the seven-minute duration as the structure steadily progresses creating a stunning ethereal slowbloomer. One Records, Catwash and Art of Dark artist Jack Wickham then steps up to reshape ‘You Can Trust’, putting things on a more house focused tip with straight 4/4 909 rhythms and a simple yet refined groove which is further fuelled by sporadic dub echoes, again creating something beautiful and ideal for the early hours as well as peak-time. Following is the next original from Niedermeier who delivers ‘Take A Walk’, this time upping the energy levels with gritty rolling toms leading the way, while tension building strings and raw, warbling chords drive the musicality, then the low-end tones add a profound rumbling depth to the feel of the record.

Entering the latter half of the single we have the third and final original from Werner, entitled ‘What Is’. The German producer skillfully fuses bumpy drums, a hooky saw-wave bass, free-flowing pads and dubby vocal lines uttering ‘What Is Love’. Then finally to close things Finish producer and Cocoon / 2020Vision / My Favorite Robot artist Phonogenic reworks ‘What Is’, putting his incredibly unique spin on the original with a smooth analogue interpretation which intricately flourishes and retracts with a smooth electronica feel for its entire seven minute duration to close the EP in style.

    Label: Turquoise Blue
    Cat No. TQR013
    Format: Digital
    Release date: 9th Dec 2013

    05. Heiko Laux with Diego Hostettler - Canis Major Part 1 [Ovum Recordings | OVM-235]

Heiko Laux debuts on Ovum with Canis Major/Lucho. Berlin based producer Heiko Laux has been steadily releasing quality music via his Kanzelramt label for the best part of twenty years. Here he steps away from the reigns to make his debut on Josh Wink's Ovum imprint, working with past-time collaborator Diego Hostettler to produce this astounding techno two-tracker.

The track begins with throbbing chord stabs, and a clipped tech-house beat, and then proceeds to descend on a hypnotic trip which takes the listener well and truly down the proverbial rabbit hole. Intoxicating cosmic arpeggios scatter around like shimmering ghosts, while a pulsating bass-line swells beneath the surface. The track steps into dubbier territory on the flip, driving forward as before whilst filtering the chord stabs into a low ebb, creating an alien soundscape which leads this remarkable EP to its natural conclusion.

Heiko follows up "Canis Major" with another double whammy "Lucho", this time alongside Alexander Lukat. In Part 1, Laux and Lukat expertly cultivate a dank aura of seismic dread, dominated by a thunderous low-end which thrums beneath the surface like a beast from the deep. A dense latticework of hi-hats and backbeats whir and converge amongst each other, whilst pressure valves burst and hiss in the background.

Part 2 flips the vibe on its head and invokes the ghost of rave to create a punishing techno workout that bristles with spectral hoover-like salvos, and an ongoing volley of classic chord stabs.

Huge Support from: Josh Wink, Dixon, Davide Squillace, Agoria, Maya Jane Coles, Oliver Huntemann, Stephan Bodzin, Karotte, Ambivalent, Dave Clarke, Luca Bacchetti, D'julz, and many more!

    06. George Morel - Father Speech (The Ride EP) [Circle Music | CIRCLE042-6]

George Morel. The man behind that name stands for warm and soulful House sounds for decades, not only for being one of the hottest DJs around the world, but he’s also a multiple gold and platinum receiving artist with the help of his excellent production skills. Now he’s back once more on Alex Flatner’s label Circle Music - with a new underground hit.

“The Ride” takes the listener on a trip through oppressive basslines, kicking beats and a playful ocean of effects. Without compromising this track pulls out all the stops in terms of modern House music. And also the second track of the EP, which is titled “Father Speech”, plays with vocals, effects, and plenty of percussion elements, but without losing the track to a tribal flavor. Rather more to make it a full-bodied whole.

“In the beginning, there was House music” and George Morel has been active in the scene right from the beginning as well. His sounds are still fresh and reflect his impressions of his visits to the international clubs. This is history in the making!

    08. Oliver Huntemann - High5 (5ünf - Five Years Ideal Audio Compilation) [Ideal Audio | Promo]

It is now five proud years since Oliver Huntemann, together with his long-term business partner Jan Langer, founded Ideal Audio. To celebrate the occasion, the label is heading out on a worldwide tour from September on, and is releasing a double CD compilation of brand-new exclusive material alongside the most memorable classics from the label's roster.

Since 2008 and release 001 from Oliver Huntemann & Dubfire, the label has grown into one of the foremost techno outlets in the world, with a wide and deep fanbase stretching all across the globe. Ideal Audio has also spawned countless label parties, fruitful collaborations and many EP, LP and mix compilation releases from plenty of exciting talents.

"Here we are, five years richer in experience and still as loud as ever" says Oliver on the anniversary. "Some new and promising acts in the form of dubspeeka from Bristol, Remain & Electric Rescue from Paris, and Soel & Jonni Darkko from Rome have recently joined the ranks, breathing new life into Ideal. For me personally, it is still a great pleasure to work on and with electronic music and the crazy party circus every day. I look forward to the next five years!"

The worldwide 5ünf Tour, running from September 2013 until March 2014, features key label associates Oliver Huntemann, André Winter, dubspeeka, Joran Van Pol, Remain & Electric Rescue, Andreas Henneberg, The Glitz and more, details will be announced in the coming days.

And so to the 5ünf compilation: Across two discs and 25 tracks it showcases the Ideal Audio style, which in the past has been described as "dark, hypnotic and powerful..." The compilation spans the last five years -- with new and exclusive cuts on disc 1, and classics on disc 2 - and proves that Oliver and Jan have done a great job evolving the label whilst always staying true to their roots in exciting techno. A fine retrospective at the same time as being focussed on the next five years, the 5ünf Tour and Compilation prove Ideal Audio to be one of the most assured labels of our time.

    09. Lo - Under Rated [Superfreq | Promo]

"Love this off the wall production from Lo aka Laurent Blondeau that once again sees the label push at the boundaries inviting House and Techno alike to the party. Four equally invigorating tracks make up the release with, ‘Red Vision’ setting the atmosphere to stun with its unnerving combination of out-there sound effects and unrelenting beats and bass. The self explanatory, ‘When L met C’ opts for low-slung bass and further brooding atmospheres, while ‘Inside Me’ intensifies the rhythms with sizzling acid overtones. ‘Underrated’ then completes with funkier percussion driving another fiery groove forward into oblivion." [DMC World]
