Re: Maceo Plex - Mixmag Cover CD - December 2013
I might say the same about some of the names that people here clamor about. As we're both from the same hometown, I've known Eric since 1996 when he was spinning and just beginning to produce, at the time, tech breaks inspired by the likes of Bushwacka! Shortly thereafter, he evolved into Maetrik specializing in dark floorfilling tech house soundscapes and finally, upon moving to Spain, introduced more warmth and soul to the equation with Maceo Plex, which by all accounts landed him in the stratosphere. This doesn't cover his electro/experimental side project, Mariel Ito, or his excellent label, Ellum (based on the nightclub/life district of the aforementioned hometown). Definitely not overrated, just not to some of your tastes, and he has paid his dues and then some.
On another note, ever since I've known him, he's never been much of a proghouse fan, which manifests in his own production and music selection, and this is probably why he gets a cold shoulder by many here.Comment

He doesn't have much time for a nobody like me anymore, but I'll mention it in passing if the opportunity arises. I'm sure he loves visiting Florida. It's just a hop, skip, and a jump from his Cuban roots.Comment
