Shigeto also means ‘to grow bigger’, which easily applies to both, Zach’s journey in the world of beats and electronic music so far, and, on a more aesthetic level, to his multi-layered, rhythmically fractured sound design. Heavily influenced by his father’s Motown and be-bop collection, Shigeto went on to study jazz in New York and London, where he acquired technical skills he would soon meld with his interest for electronics, IDM and hip hop into silky yet haunting beat sculptures. While most of his early productions found a home on Moodgadget, Shigeto has entertained a highly prolific relationship with Ghostly International since his acclaimed Semi Circle EP in 2010.
