Most large corporations have a code they give employees to use if anyone in your family works at one. If you belong to a credit union, they sometimes have discount codes as do some car insurance companies & Discover card. I'd check out expedia.com if you haven't already. Also, I never knew this, but when you get to the counter to sign for it, you can sometimes finagle something based on what vehicles they have available at that moment...just ask and tell them you're open to whatever they have for a good deal; if you're really pleasant, patient and appreciative they can adjust for you. Might be expensive because it's San Diego.
I'm seeing $23/day for an elantra, which are roomy inside & good on gas on rentalcars.com or atlaschoice.com in SD on those dates... you can get $20-25 per day, just keep googling.
We once signed up for a low cost one, arrived late at night, waited a long time in line, and the guy was so nice he put us in a much better upgrade for the same price because he had so few cars left. It made our whole trip so much more fun. Good luck!
^That's an awesome idea. unfortunately it's too far from where we are staying (about 2 hours), though there are 5 locations near LA, I'll be in SD. Thanks though, will use in the future potentially .
