Released as part of the Nick Warren presents The Soundgarden.

‘’Sourcing new music and making it into a cohesive album isn’t always an easy process, but something I find very fulfilling. Ever since compiling the first ever “Back To Mine” in the 90’s my passion for weird and wonderful ambient textures and melody-filled dance floor sounds has been one of the driving forces of my search for the perfect track. I feel that my role as a producer and DJ also includes helping new and emerging talent and giving them a platform to be noticed in this ever-changing musical world. This is something I’ve been able to pursue again with this new album"
      [Nick Warren]

      Support of this work:

Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Guy J, Marco Carola, BLOND:ISH, Guido Schneider, Jon Charnis, Navar, Mihai Popoviciu, Markus Homm, MUUI, Pedro Aguiar, Andrey Pushkarev and more

      02. Eslkimo * - Lavender (Neustrelitz EP) [Gelbes Billett Musik | GBM027]

Opener 'Neustrelitz' already marks a subtle departure from the strictly reduced soundscape of Eskimo*'s debut: mature, more refined, hauntingly atmospheric, it's an epic homage to the legendary 'fusion festival': a clandestine global techno gathering hidden away behind a deserted soviet airbase. Trembling with anticipation its hypnotically slow build-up stretches over nine minutes during which soft pads give way to looming strings while a driving synth bass-line serves as motor and recreates the increasing tension during each traveller's journey, as one passes through the eponymous small town symbolising the last stronghold of civilisation before - finally - arriving at the pearly gates to said otherworldly never land.

'Lavender', Eskimo*'s most pop-infused production to date, portrays the ensuing blissed-out state of open-air grace: In a place where time stops and all lines between the dancing individuals become blurred, minds and bodies start to spiral into a featherlike whirl of pure raving joy finally culminating in a meltdown-moment beyond imagination, as the entire floor gets flooded with glittering particles of a husky voice delivering deliciously breathy, love-struck confessions of ecstatic happiness to the crowd.

Though still covered in glistening after-glow sensations, the calm, peaceful serenity of the following comedown is fluidly cast into the EP's closing track 'Stralsund': a 'slomo-house'-inspired slow jam covering the last sunbeams spilled over waves gently splashing and washing ashore, thereby ending the EP on a slightly more somber sunset note, with a lingering velvet vocal bidding farewell before gradually fading into the dusk, as - alas - summer's end draws near, soon leaving behind nothing but melancholy memories.

      Release date: 2 February 2014

      03. Cumiks - Picture (Fanciful Stories EP) [Inside Out Records | IOR004]

Inside Out Records welcomes in the new year thanks to a shrewdly chosen bunch of new faces. On the Fanciful Stories EP, Cumiks, the charismatic duo from Spain, deliver a unique and dreamy series of cuts, the likes of which are inspired by their many sojourns around the world.

As its title suggests, Fanciful Stories is far from just another EP. On the contrary, it is a primitive experience and one that lives in the subconscious of its creators. This sensationalism is only complete when Stevie R, Ian Mckenzie, Alex Zed and Al Bradley narrate their own version of the tale.

On that note, Stevie R & Ian McKenzie's vision is a more tense interpretation of the original. Funky drums, a strong minimal bassline and a wide variety of analog synthesizers all play their part. Together, it makes for a magnificent composition, and the type of track that'll keep listeners enthralled until the very last.

On Alex Zed's remix, the label owner is very much at his inimitable best, as he whips up an effort that neatly toes the line between dark and trippy. Moving arps and creepy pads abound, with the end result an enigmatic, beautiful groove that's sure to cause a dancefloor sensation.

It's then Al Bradley's turn to surprises us, which is exactly what he does on his take on Cumiks' ''Picture''. Stuffed full of old-school urban sounds, Chicago chords and disco elements, it's a groove-heightened experiment that'll intrigue even the most ardent of house heads. A majestic listen from the first beat to the last, this is very much an EP worth losing yourself in.

      04. Antrim - Blow Your Mind (Luis Bondio Remix) [Hope Recordings | unreleased]

The original Antrim's 'Blow Your Mind' came out on a 5 track Renaissance Sampler [HOPE109] linked to Nick Warrens 2013 Masters Series. Here Argentina's Luis Bondio provides an unofficial remix that is available for free download via Soundcloud.

      05. Timelapse - Who Loves The Sun (Heaven EP) [liebe*detail | LDD027]

First ep debut have sonic depth acquired by many hours already logged in the studio and a sophisticated world view that comes across in the stories their music tells, "Timelapse". Where everything can be reduced to vibrations and controlling sound waves is akin to controlling a physical reality. With a throbbing beat and epic melodies they build towers of steel and halls of philospher's stone. Places of thought and worship where futuristic sounds hold court with swinging percussive beats, telling us tales of how we can work together to overcome the challenges of our immediate circumstances and reunite the illusions of our separate selves once again into a whole being. A whole and complete universal consciousness with a deeper understanding of its true self.

      Release date: 21 February 2014

      06. Scotty. A - The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter (Mike Griego Remix) [Proton Music | PROTON0242]

In the transient heat wave of an English summer, UK resident Scotty.A and his "Natural Senses" EP lit up long, warm evenings with his unique blend of articulate melodies and rhythms to keep dance floors brimming long into sultry nights. The natural evolution of this three track EP has already seen the release of one component piece of the combined jigsaw puzzle in the shape of "Once More Into The Fray", remixed by Silinder and Anthony Yarranton.

The second instalment of a three-part trilogy sees Proton Music proud to announce the full release of "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" with dynamic new remixes from two heavyweights in the underground music arena.

Argentinean, Mike Griego is not concerned with the trappings and fripperies of traditional biographical detail. Preferring to let his production work make statements on his behalf, a refreshing maxim is based upon the fact that it is his music that describes and defines him best. A production career that begins in mid 2009 gives some clue as to the expertise found in his work as a debut for Atlantdigital saw Griego announced on a world stage. Since then, work for Replug, Mistique and Soundteller have all played host to his talents while a contribution to the Sudbeats compilation in May 2013 saw him make a further statement on Hernan Cattaneo's legendary imprint. Thus, judged by deed not by word, Mike Griego's debut appearance for Proton Music surely presents a shining example of an individual with passion for his craft. Turning his attentions to remixing Scotty.A, a delightfully sultry percussive rhythm section opens proceeding before a funk-fuelled bass line chaperones a glassy motif and soft, undulating pad atmospheres. As the pace quickens slightly in the latter stages with breathy vocals cuts, the sublime groove drops once more with wonderful South American flavour.

Athenian, Ioannis Ntouskis has been a major force in the underground dance movement since his debut EP hit the Bedrock label in 2004. More than 300 production credits have subsequently been associated with the Dousk name for a plethora of high-calibre labels including Plusquam and Lost language. Furthermore, two full-length albums have made their way onto the Klik imprint, a huge body of material onto the highly respected Vapour label and a multimedia presence which has seen the Dousk sound feature on numerous television and radio ads as well as MTV Music Awards and the globally renowned CSI hit TV show. March 2013 marked Dousk's debut with Proton Music and a beautifully crafted remix of Tvardovsky's "Infinite", followed by a July launch of the much lauded "Bisocial" EP of which "Look Good Tonight" went on to receive the full remix treatment from Soulwerk and Embliss. Taking on "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter", Dousk has unearthed a deliciously brooding work of skill and craft. A light, ticking percussive section brings an understated urgency to a deep bass groove and dance floor delight. A loquacious, pitched down vocal sample piques further interest and subtle melodic interludes weave genuine magic in a supremely inventive remix.

Remixes from Mike Griego and Dousk have ensured that Scotty.A no longer hunts alone in affairs of the heart.

      Release date: 18 February 2014

      07. D-Eye - Silver Moon [Balkan Connection | Promo]

Russian producer Aidar Rudolfovich aka D-Eye began his career in 2004, and since then has emerged as one of the most promising names in recent memory. His songwriting ability was formally acknowledged in 2011 when he was named the winner in Bastards of Funk & Sonic Union's remix competition for Lowbit Records.

With quality releases signed to Lowbit, Balkan Connection, Mistique, and Spring Tube, we should expect to see the demand for this young artist steadily increase throughout the year.

      08. Cut Knob - Dumb Raver [BC2 Records | BC2005]

The fifth release on Balkan Connection's new BC2 offshoot is out this week and it features the debut of Cut Knob to the label. The Colombian duo have been favourites of the underground progressive house community with their productions on Axon, Mistique Music, Stellar Fountain and Reelaux Digital. Their debut single for BC2 is entitled 'The Dumb Raver' and it comes with remixes from: Beat Maniacs and AMAN.

Cut Knob's original is a smooth progressive cut that comes with the Colombian duos signature grooves. The abundance of drums and deep complementary rhythms are quite infectious. Cut Knob's productions always a very keen dance floor sense about them and this one is no different as it seems tailor made for club play. Great stuff from Cut Knob.

The first remix is provided by Beat Maniacs who also serve as one of the labels A&R directors. Serbian producers Petar Bogojevic and Nikola Radivojevic make up the Beat Maniacs duo and they've done an excellent job with their interpretation of 'The Dumb Raver'. In going with a deeper, dubbier vibe Beat Maniacs have a crafted the perfect complement to Cut Knob's bigger sounding original. The unique tones which get scattered throughout the production are eerie and thought provoking while the smooth builds make it perfect for mid set action. Great remix from Beat Maniacs.

The second and final remix is provided by AMAN who just had his excellent 'Tears of the Lotus' released on Travis MacDonald's Agara Music this week. The Indian producer closes the release out with another very spiritual sounding interpretation. Heavy beats, organic sounds and spacey electronics highlight the first half and carry the track to the main break. The drum heavy drop carries some rising tension and climaxes with a big build which perfectly sets up an otherworldly finale. It's big, bold and hugely atmospheric; it definitely ranks up there with some of AMAN's biggest tracks to date.

Excellent work from everyone one on the release and it's great to see BC2 building such a quality roster of artists so quickly.

      Release date: 31 March 2014

      09. Alejandro Arroyo - Open Cycle [Change Audio | CHANGE009]

It’s difficult to believe this represents the debut release for Chilean Alejandro Arroyo, considering the confidence in which he’s crafted a peaktime progressive record destined for the record bag of stalwarts like Hernan Cattaneo. The bassline that powers ‘Open Cycle’ is deep, dark and menacing, though it carries enough ‘oomph’ to push it nearly into the realms of trance; and there’s a beautiful transition into the melodic elements in the peak of the record. A rip-roaring debut, it’s accompanied by an equally good remix from Andre Sobota. [DJ Mag]
