There were quite a few people saying that they didn't like it at all when I left the theater, but I think that it was cinematic brilliance. I think I'll go read the book now.

You can't have manslaughter without laughter.
"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl."Tags: None -
Re: Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy
the book was a comedy, but the previews don't show much comedy in it. also, i'm a little skeptical because the movie's rated PG or something. -

Re: Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy
It was really a great movie. It had a lot of funny parts in it, but I believe the movie was really a satire about human life and it did a good job of relaying that message.I am no cyberwhore...

Re: Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy
I enjoyed it, but it helps if you try and think of this as a separate entity from the books. It features a lot of the humour, but in some cases massively scaled down. I'd recommend this to someone that hasn't read the books yet as a introduction to Douglas Adams.
Sadly, xXx: State of the Union will probably get a lot more attention than this because it has the larger advertising budget. HHGTTG deserves a lot more attention.Score so far: Owned ZoverTard 8 times - twice in one week! Twice more in same weekend.

Those who hadnt read the book/seen TV etc. (ie. Me) : Loved it, amusing and well put together.
Those who had read book etc. and thought the movie would be an accurate portrayal of the book : Hated it completely. Thought it deviated from the books too much and sullied the whole thing.
Those who had read the book, and went in thinking of it as seperate to the books : Loved it as well.

Re: Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy
I enjoyed it... it was fun.
more importantly, even though it wasn't amazingly incredible, it was still a lot better than most of the crap that makes it into theatres these days.We are the ones we've been waiting for.Comment

Re: Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy
I haven't read the book or played the old school computer game or basically experienced this story in any way, shape or form. Either way, I loved this movie. I was pleasantly surprised by Mos Def's performance, I was thinking "Cool, another rapper turned actor," but he did a great job.
Did someone say there was no humor in this movie??? I remember seeing and hearing all kinds of humor thoughout. It was nice because not all of it was ready apparent...you kinda had to "get it."
Anyway, this movie is great. The whale scene alone was worth the price of admission. Also, I loved the total deconstruction of any form of God or religion. Heady stuff is you got past the lighthearted tone it was presented in.Comment

Re: Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Well i've not read the book or heard the radio show and only seen the briefest slice of the TV series so i watched this as a Hitchiker novice and thoroughly enjoyed it. The humour was just my kind of thing, although i can imagine its the sort of film you need to be in the right frame of mind to watch. I'd recommend going to see it with an open mind. Its a kind of love it or hate it film. 7/10Comment
