    mp3 encoders

Just got this message from dbPowerAmp, which I've used for about 8 years to encode mp3's. is this for real? anyone know of another free easy encoder?

"dBpowerAMP Music Converter: Why a mp3 License?

dBpowerAMPs mp3 encoder (writer) is on a time limited 30 day trial license, illustrate has provided a 100% free encoder for many years, but a legal challenge (claims of patent infringement) has forced a change, the world cannot have a free mp3 encoder so it seems. illustrate must now charge for the mp3 encoding license.

This license is purchased through the Power Pack license (a series of enhancements to dBpowerAMP: Faster CD Ripping, Handles Compilation CDs, Preview CDs, ID Tag Editing, DSP Sound Effects and more)...all for $14 [Registration can be made here]. "

which version are you using? apparently you have to pay for the mp3 encoder in version 11, but I just got ahold of v10.1 yesterday and it's working like a charm. I still have the installer if that helps any.

*edit: maybe it automatically updated on you???

EAC is good for ripping and encoding at the same time. I think he is looking for just a straight up encoder.

I love EAC though, I rip all of my CDs straight to FLAC. 1 button...it couldn't be any easier.
