    Release Notes:

    01. Fish From Japan - Carry On (Dub Mix) [Misshapen | MISS001]

Fish From Japan, a new contender in the house music scene, currently signed to Misshapen, is formed of a group of producers, vocalists and DJs with various different backgrounds and influences.

Their latest EP, ‘Carry On’, includes the original and 3 remixes, all with their own unique house style and paired with the distinctive vocals of Danielle Rowe. The riff along with the lyrics are very catchy and the bassline is similar to old style house.

All of the tracks on the EP have a funky build up, followed by a layering of pop synths and dropped into a chilled, techno bliss. The remixes do stick to the original however they are different in their own way, especially the Dub Mix with the added percussion for more of a club vibe. The original in itself is very harmonic but quirky in its own way.

    Release Date: 01 September 2014

    04. Michael A - Magic (3rd Avenue Fall Sampler 2014) [3rd Avenue | 3AV050]

Another taste of the excellent four track 3rd Avenue Fall Sampler 2014 EP, which also features Daneel, Progress Inn and JJ Salinas.

    05. Superpitcher - Delta (Kompakt: Total 14 Compilation) [Kompakt | KOMPAKTCD118D]

With TOTAL 14, our extremely popular compilation series returns to the fore after its sabbatical in 2013; a well-needed break from the routine that was put to good use, resulting in one of the most riveting instalments in the series yet. Both veteran and freshman artists were chosen for an exhaustive overview of past label exploits, including powerful cuts from the likes of DAUWD, KÖLSCH, BLOND:ISH, MICHAEL MAYER or THE FIELD - but this wouldn't be TOTAL without the exclusive stuff, so we're more than happy to add a generous serving of brand new tracks from SUPERPITCHER, SASCHIENNE, WEVAL, THOMAS/MAYER, VOIGT & VOIGT, THE MODERNIST and JÜRGEN PAAPE.

As with every compilation, our selection for TOTAL 14 has to meet the high demands of a perfect mixtape - you'll need some bangers on there, don't forget the atmospheric lot, keep the story arc in mind... the formula isn't too complicated, but we think we nailed it big time, thanks to a particularly strong line-up showcasing both the best sellers and the personal favorites of the last two label years. What's most striking, however, is how a pool of artists as distinct as COMA, THOMAS FEHLMANN, SEBASTIEN BOUCHET, DJ TENNIS or GUSGUS can find harmony in diversity, with a cut such as MACEO PLEX's glamourous prime time stomper CONJURE SUPERSTAR leading to the delicate nostalgia of WEVAL's SOMETHING in the most natural manner.

From Mississippi to Neo-Tokyo, you'll need only one soundtrack for the trip, and it's this one.

    06. Huminal - Morning Raiser (Acrophobia EP) [Particles | PSI1430]

Paul Deetman and Jelle Jansen are making large, undulating waves in the underground dance arena as their Huminal production moniker begins to bear the fruits of considerable talent, leading now to the "Acrophobia" EP on Particles.

Founded upon the teamwork of high school basketball courts, Deetman and Jensen's love of electronic music saw them forge a musical relationship influenced by the über cool sounds of Trentmoller, Stephan Bodzin and their ilk. A force majeur from an early age, regular appearances quickly saw victory in a national radio DJ contest, swiftly followed by invitations to play at techno events in the Amsterdam capital. Influenced by jazz and blues with a love of rhythmic patterns, the duo were catapulted into the limelight, triumphant in a the "Demolition" contest at 2011's Amsterdam Dance Event, with their original production, "Greeksomnia". Judged by a cast of no lesser talents including, Marc Romboy, Dave Clarke and head of legendary RandS Records, Renaat Vendepapeliere, Huminal's production credentials were firmly locked in place.

A DJ residency at Electronation, followed by appearances at Paradiso, Sugar Factory and Club AIR, cemented a formidable reputation while appearances at the Dance Valley and Groove City Festival began to garner international support. A schedule that has already seen the release of the fabled, "Greeksomnia", on the "Propheices" EP for Kieran Krohn's FutureForm imprint, followed up by an appearance of "Dawner" on James Warren's "Visceral 016" compilation, Huminal's portfolio now blossoms with the release of the three-track, "Acrophobia" EP on Particles.

Opener, "Morning Riser", immediately illustrates the Huminal "love of rhythms and beats" as an expertly crafted percussive groove that crackles, clicks and ticks its way in partnership with a supremely emotive bass line that growls along a filtered path. Echoes of Bodzin and Romboy surface, evolving effortlessly while trademark "crushing synth sounds" dart across the stereo spectrum to provide a perfect melodic accompaniment to a track of rare poise and grace.

Full of dance floor vibrancy, "Road To Transmission" hits its stride quickly with a combination of rapid-fire hats, shakers and rhythmic stabs. A counterpoint arpeggio then drifts to the fore, rising and falling in line with exquisite filter automation, before reaching a zenith and leading to a pulsating, crunching fervour in the third movement.

Title track, "Arcophobia" completes the musical vignette with a dark and powerful offering that encapsulates the Huminal sound. Once again, intricate percussive interplay provides an exacting standard as bit crushed and distorted synth sounds build the energy and dynamism so prevalent in the duo's work. A breathless intensity hits as the track reaches its natural high and immaculate production technique is in full evidence.

A triptych of new material from Huminal will ensure that "Acrophobia" is the least of their concerns as the duo hit the heights and peaks with their unique array of talents.

    Release Date: August 18, 2014

Criss' remix is a darker hypnotic phat grooved wonder that chugs along while the wondrous melodics add light."

His tracks 'Glittering Sky' and 'Voyager Spark' featured on Resident 143 and 084.

    08. Billy Alex - Sparkle (Ezequiel Anile & Nicolas Petracca Remix) [LuPS Records | Promo]

    09. Jelly For The Babies & Marc Pollen - Flow Motion (Sehat & Sobek Remix) (Balkan Connection Rewind II EP) [Balkan Connection | BALKAN0295]

Features on Balkan Connection Rewind II

The 296th release on Balkan Connection sees the debut of a very promising production duo. Sehat & Sobek have gone back into Balkan Connection’s expansive catalog and reworked four of the labels most loved releases. Their reconstructions of Stas Drive, Li-Polymer, Jelly For The Babies & Marc Pollen and Yoram are all very good and gives the progressive house underground a great new act to follow.

The duos transformation of Yoram’s ‘Back In Time’ is particularly nice. The original track released back in February of this year was a smooth tech house jam full of emotive harmonies and cool rhythms. As a straight forward club record it really works and Sehat & Sobek have added their own unique twist on it here. With a much drummier framework and a complement of fresh melodic ideas the duo have reinvented the track wonderfully while still staying true to the great vibe Yoram created on the original.

They’ve also done a nice job on Stas Drive’s ‘Arkaim’. The original version was a favourite of both Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J who featured the track in their sets and monthly charts. Sehat & Sobek have stripped the down a touch and focused on the groovier aspects of the production. The intense soulful theme that Stas Drive captured so perfectly on the original has been conveyed in a much subtler way and the trippy late night vibes are incredibly strong.

Jelly For The Babies and Marc Pollen released their ‘Flow Motion’ production well over a year ago now. It was Balkan Connection’s 232nd release and featured remixes from Silinder and Kobana. The original track saw Jelly and Marc come together for a floaty tech house groover that was one of the labels best signings that year. Fast forward almost 15 months and Sehat & Sobek have put their own spacey twist on it. Filled with cool vocal gates, shuffling rhythms and a dreamy atmospheric backdrop it’s another excellent reinvention from this new and exciting duo.

Closing the release out is Sehat & Sobek’s interpretation of Li-Polymer ‘Sense of Imperfect Beings’. Another standout from Balkan Connection’s back catalog and still one of the Portuguese producers career best tracks. Sehat & Sobek have retained the deep, enchanting presence of the original all while beefing up the framework with a nice complement of drums. The main break is certainly one of the highlights with its unique and tension filled build which culminates with a suitably restrained re-entry. Should be a massive moment on a lot of dance floors and it rounds out a very exciting release on Balkan Connection.

    10. Andre Sobota - Southern Sundance [Kyubu Records | KYB005]

KYUBU are back with two slammin cuts from Brazilian wonder kid Andre Sobota. The track Fallout, is a sophisticated building gem that develops and strengthens, delivering an energetic 'moment' during your set. Slightly moody edged, yet with hallmark Sobota melodics, this is a winner!

Backing up the EP we have Southern Sundance that is a smile inducing warm slab of goodness. Big pads evolve, creating tension as the track reaches its euphoric break, before those epic key changes land to take the roof off. The description of this being 'Big' doesn't do the track justice! A monster EP from KYUBU once again, don't miss this!
