What's the use of having a remix contest....

....when the people that win already have a track under a well-known label? IMO, when there's a remix contest, I understand it goes out to everyone, but I also anticipate the up and coming producers who've never been heard of before. Personally, I didn't enter or remix a track cause I still suck, but I would rather have seen an unknown producer rather than seeing Funk Harmony Park as the winners of the fingerpaint contest. Just my opinion....

edit: note to all that they are Fade's latest release, My Truth, which I think IS a superb track....

they should have made it a rule that only unsigned artists can enter. when you have an open competition 9/10 times it's going to be a pro that's going to win.

i completely agree and made a byline in the foundational rules for the BBB DJ Comp.

if the door is open to guys w/ $20K studios who have 3 tracks signed to bedrock (for example) then what's the incentive for the home producer to get in the mix. shoulda been open to unsigned producers only.

I think the remixes are superb (the ones I've heard that are downloadable) but I agree with Kabir. At the very least they should've had one winner "All-Around" and one winner who was strictly "undiscovered".

That's true Tim, but at the same time, it defeats the purpose of having a "remix contest." I can only imagine what a waste of time this was for the many undiscovered producers.

instead i wonder why would a well known, signed producer enter a competition anyway...

I would imagine that there are a few possible reasons:

                    1. Notoriety
                    2. Fun
                    3. Money
                    4. Ego
                    5. Competition
                    etc.

And if you've not heard 'Fingerpaint', it's a truely beautiful track. I would love the opportunity to put my hands on remixing it as I had several different ideas for it. The problem is that I know nothing about production software/equipment.
