Did any of you like trance at some point?

I notice a lot of trance DJ bashing on these boards, but I'm curious as to who here used to listen to trance back when it was good (late 90s).

I did, and I'm not ashamed for that. I liked the Oakenfold EM tour in '99. Since then, trance has been very commercialized and quality went down.

I did, but I started to get turned off by the sound when the Dutch trance invasion kicked in. The stadium type pads and strings didn't do it for me. Trance used to be so moody and well thought out. It became more and more about the cheap thrills and the hands in the air vibe.

indeed, although I do play some because of the club and DJ I work with, so I am at least tolerant of it and still enjoy some.

But, I try to stay on the more progressive/edgier side...that anthemic, breakdown in every point in every tune stuff doesn't cut it for me anymore...

          Are these considered trance?

I still keep a lot of trance sets... don't listen to them anywhere near as I used to, but I have them around.

Trance Nation's, ID+t's, Corsten, PVD, Picotto n others... those were other times...

I listened to Trance from the early to the late 90ties and the only DJ?s I still listened to after that were Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren and John '00' Fleming. I stopped listening to them as well in early 2003 as the sound is the same all the time. People say that about Progressive too since two years but I don't see this point yet.

I only listen to trance in the beginning (early 90?s) - the sound of DJ Dag , PvD , Kid Paul & acts like Cosmic Baby were great. But since a few years Trance is boring as hell. I hate this Tiesto sound.

I'm only a year and a half in. I listened to trance for the first couple of months. Then got introduced to prog. in october by sander and never looked back. I can't even listen to it. It hurts my ears now

I expect most people here liked trance at some point.

I did, and I'm still listening to progressive trance.

I did at some point in the beginning listen to "trance", if you mean the music Ferry Corsten or Black and Jones play. Yes, it was back 5 years ago and I loves it, but it now seems so cheesy

I still have somewhere that first Trance Nation compilation by Ministry of Sound, that I bought in Ibiza. I remember being the hit of the summer back then.

I started off listening to trance in early 2000. Some of my favorite dj's were PVD, Oakenfold, Kimball Collins, and a few local trance dj's. By the middle of 2001, I had moved on though. I'm not ashamed at all of my past!

End of '02 till mid '03 I was almost wholey a trance guy with the odd GU listen here or there, not really loving them.

Bit by bit my tastes grew into less cheesy/obvious music, which led me to James Holden and Gwill Morris....the rest is history.
