    question

Why don't dj's release mixes using other genres more often? So Digweed released a chillout mix recently, in the past Oakenfold with his after hours was pretty cool at the time.... Thugf*cker with Greg's mellow trip.... I can think of several djs that I would like to hear their favorites from other genres. Or maybe they are and I am just missing them, which is more than likely.

Post memorable mixes (or titles) from dj's that released mixes that were not their typical genre they usually mix.

It was fun while it lasted...

    Re: question

Too scared to step out of their comfort zone. The Beatles went from Please Please Me to Sargent Peppers in a few years. Most artists these days are too scared to do anything different in case it ends their career early, or they get ridiculed on message boards.

I can remember Digweed bragging about playing Breakbeat while Oakenfold was actually playing it.

              Re: question

I agree & prefer mixes with variety unless the mood of a one-genre mix seems to fit mine at that moment. Based on comments seen on SC, many others enjoy unexpected surprise tunes from other genres as well.... and if the transitions aren't abrupt/awkward, all the better.

also Oakenfold GU004: Oslo, loved the first part of CD1

i think they do but 90% of the time, probably keep the mix to themselves or just hand it out to friends as something different.

                          James Holden DAZED 2014 mix
Phil Kieran's 'Alloy Mental' band, 2007 Essential Mix
Damian Lazarus has his Lazpod show
Sander Kleinenberg had his S4OS series

Solid Steel radio show also comes to mind (Ame mix specifically)

they are out there and i agree with you, the multi-genre mixes definitely go to the "good and keep" pile more often nowadays than something that is 100% house or progressive

I didn't mean to imply mixes that contain "multi-genres." Actually mixes that are not the usual genre we know the Dj for.
