Kieran Hebden’s game is virtuosity. Over the course of his career, the Elliott School alumn has acquired one of the most recognizable voices in electronic music with his organic textures and long-winding arrangements. After delving into the art of post-rock with his band Fridge in the 1990s, Hebden began releasing material as Four Tet on Trevor Jackson’s Output Recordings later that decade. In spite of founding his own label Text Records in 2001, he continued to put out a string of long- and extended play releases on Domino, which saw Four Tet’s sound evolve from a glitchy, folktronic approach to instrumental hip hop to animate tech and microhouse. 2012 was a particularly productive year for Hebden, as he dropped a number of well-received singles, his Pink compilation, as well as collaborations with Burial and Jamie xx.
