Sound Avenue label boss Madloch was welcomed back into the production spotlight four months ago with a fresh collaborative project alongside Spanish producer Matias Vila. It was a near yearlong absence for the Belgian producer and the quality of the production (Reading Souls) left electronic music fans hungry for more. Fast forward four months and the 44th release on Sound Avenue finds Madloch presenting his first solo studio work in over a year. 'Walls' looks to be the Belgian producer's career best and features remixes from: One of Them and King Unique.
The 'Walls' original mix kicks the release off with a DJ friendly intro that's highlighted by thoughtful soundscapes and cool electronic quirks. The alluring atmosphere immediately draws you in and it's pleasant cadence is quite invigorating. As the main motifs begin to take shape a cluster of soft rhythmic tones and vibrant chimes work together in wonderful harmonic unison. This delicately structured sonic vortex tantalizes the senses and leads the piece to the main break. Following this short but reflective interlude the buoyant groove reaches its full magnitude and the strong emotive themes deliver an engaging climax. A pristinely produced piece of music and no doubt the best of Madloch's career.
The first remix on the release is supplied by One Of Them who is making his debut appearance on Sound Avenue. Born in Philadelphia but raised in Greece Nick Dalagelis aka One Of Them has now relocated back to the USA and calls New York home. 2014 has been the strongest of Nick's six year production career. His appearances on John Digweed's Bedrock Records, Chris Fortier's Fade Records and John Debo's Mindwarp Records have all been sensational. Nick keeps that great momentum going here with an amazing interpretation of 'Walls'. With a much deeper and more introspective approach Nick has overhauled the piece into a real late night gem. It's percussive groove, luminous harmonies and fuzzy tones carry a blissful radiance that is rare in today's over populated deep house arena. Excelling on the sum of its parts this electronic adventure is sure to be one of Nick's most sought after remix productions of the year.
The second and final remix is provided King Unique who is also making his debut appearance on Sound Avenue. Formed in 2001 the King Unique production touch has appeared on more than fifty remixes and has yielded some of the biggest dance floor bombs known to man, most notably: Dirty Vegas' "Walk Into The Sun", Underworld's "Two Months Off" and The Killers "Somebody Told Me". It's been another stellar year for King Unique with original productions for Bedrock and microCastle along with a very special update on the classic 'Yohkoh' for Sudbeat Music. The King Unique sound has evolved immensely over the last calendar year and his interpretation of 'Walls' is further evidence of that. Backed by a shuffling framework and punchy bass stabs it's expertly layered rhythms carve out a refined and contemporary groove. The main break may the highlight though with its delicate silence broken by dusty chimes and a sneaky re-entry which should provide your dance floor with an exhilarating rush.
