How abut stop trying to pigeon hole everything you hear into a genre?

A lot of you are acting like this is some new sound. It's not, it just is to Fortier and the prog djs you listen to who are trying something different because they're sick of the dark plodding stuff they've played for years.

"This new sound, tech house, it's not cool"

I'll be glad when the djs you love that jump into a sound just because it's hot, get out of it or jump on to the next thing, so they'll stop fucking it all up.

What i hate is bad music. Not genres.

^^^^^ well, wouldnt you agree that EDM is a genre of music, with its own subgenres? House, techno, trance, progressive, tech house, deep house, break beat, breaks, etc etc, are SUBGENRES of EDM. Ini that way - tech house is a subgenre... And Just like I dislike deep house and some breakbeat, I also dislike tech house.

And Troklo, You can say that about progressive too, theres a lot of crap out for for progressive as well... Just how it is...

What I find disgusting is the fact that former progressive DJ's are pushing tech house alongside progressive house in order to build momentum. I understand progressive house was pushed alongside psytrance until it broke off into its own genre, however it was confusing for some at first. It's like trying to catch a few strays, by repetitively playing tech house alongside prog tracks until you are convinced that you enjoy listening to tech. It's cool to be versatile and enjoy more than one genre, as Jenks said. And offering a variety will pack an event. But prog dj's selling tech house is downright dirty.

IMO it is increasingly more difficult to differentiate among DJs and producers who stick to just the 'Progressive' (sorry Jenks) genre. I can't get enough of those that provide a little stylistic mix-up in their sets.

So, we're foced to accept what's forced down our proverbial throats? Once something has been established it becomes very difficult to completely destroy. Thank Christ that people look into the past for inspiration or I wouldn't be sitting in the antique-style couch I own, watching the DVD of Citizen Cane, and wearing a Seersucker suit.

Not at all, some people just never grow old. If we're foced to accept what's forced down our proverbial throats then I'd be listening to trance.

And as such 'tech house' as it's being labeled in this thread has, ahem, progressed. It's not the same electro/acid sounds of the 303 from yesteryear. Yes, there are samples and similarities, but it is a different sound in and of itself.

I have to agree with you, tech is not the same as it once was, it has progressed along with the industry. Thus why many DJ's who once spun tech are beginning to fall back into it. I enjoyed several the tracks villo was playing over NYE... but it's not all my cup of tea.
