I'm getting back into the promoting game in about a month or so...I need to post a hypothetical question...First I should describe the scene here. I live in Omaha, which is a city that needs a bigger push to get top talent here. There have been a handful of DJ's here like DJ Dan, Richard Humpty Vission, Baby Anne, Carl Craig, Keoki...all those shows were fairly successful, but were 18+...Christopher Lawrence was here in 2000, the show was 21+ and we still had just over 1000 people attend, most of whom were from Omaha. The dimwitz promoting it only allowed about 2-3 weeks for advertising. Given that was 5 years ago and more people are exposed to the scene now, I would imagine we could probably get a bigger turn out. Only this time we want to bring a top 10 DJ. I'm hoping to pull in 2000-2500 people; we have Des Moines, Lincoln, Omaha, and K.C. as our target audience; and we may want it to be 21+ again... Our intention is to throw this event at the Civic Center; we already met with them and was shown which room we would be using. I believe the fact that it may be at the Civic Center legitimizes this type of event, instead of people thinking it's a "rave". A show like this hasn't been done in Omaha yet so I think the Civic Center would create a huge buzz. I was thinking someone like Deep Dish, Oakenfold, or any other big name. I enjoy dj's like Greg Benz and Nick and John Dalagelis, but I know they couldn't pull that amount of attendees just yet. My question is, based on these facts, which DJ would you bring, money not being an object? I know it's a tough question to answer if you're not from here. Any input would be much appreciated....

Re: Who would you bring?
spend some time do some marketing.
go to local shops and see what is selling, what people are into. also, a neato flyer would do the trick for you. something special.
as far as djs ... i am a big fan of sasha, pole folder, likwit, the bedrock crew, deep dish, james holden, kosmas, YAO, etc.dead, yet alive. -

Re: Who would you bring?
yeah, those all ages shows can get a bit messy, and turn into a rave of sorts, but you have to understand that to fill up a venue like the civic center, you may have to open it up to younger kids...sucks for some, but would probably make the promoters happy and raise the funds that will be necessary to bring such huge talent you're seeking.
Try contacting Nikki @ amonly.com. She has access to a wide range of talent, or try the boys at the collective agency. Just a few ideas. You'll probaly have to stack the bill pretty deep since you're out there in the "sticks" but I'm sure it can be done...but i doubt very cheaply.
Good luck, man.Peace.Comment

indeed...be prepared as top guns like Deep Dish & Oakenfold could easily charge you 10, 20K+ to come out and play.FM

Regional celebs might do the trick too...take someone quite famous in the area you pointed out, or at least hailing form there.Blowkick visual & graphic design - No Civilization. Now With Broadband.
